Just to confirm if anyone else ever has this issue, I did solve the problem by getting a 5/16-18 square nut from Ace Hardware. Screwed it on the bolt, inserted assembly into round pipe lathe bed and tightened up. Thanks again for all your help @FrankLee and @yatg. I really appreciate your help!

Yes the bottom of the V is beveled and the square nut makes sense to pressure fit together. Thank you very much guys, you've solved the mystery that was stumping me!

Thanks for that yatg! I see that now on the parts list. I just assumed since I had a nut on the bolt it was correct. That is a rivet in the bottom of the tube and I'd bet you're right that the square nut secures it with the right sized bolt. The parts list even gives the measurements for the...
