Sorry to dig up an old thread… but has ProAmerica gone out of business? Their website no longer exists and I can’t find any info on them.

I haven’t found anything in the catalogs yet. I emailed Reed and got no response, which is what I figured would happen.

I found two of these Reed Mfg. cast logos at an antique store. They definitely don’t appear to be any kind of reproduction, but I can’t find any info on them. I’m thinking they were some form of topper on a retail display, maybe the chains were to run through tools to secure them? Any ideas?

That would definitely be the easier way to go, but it seems like everyone says that’s not a good way to do it. I just don’t want to have water issues 5,10… 20 years down the road. It makes sense to me that rubber degrades over time but flashing generally keeps you in the dry.

That was my original plan, but then when you start thinking about water and leaks… there’s no good way to seal that. It seems like water will find its way in eventually.

I used these self drilling screws, commonly used to attach trailer deck boards. They seem to work well, I have been pre drilling which helps. I ended up going with the wood beadboard because it seemed like the best combination of price, durability and good looks. About $23/sheet.

I’m not a manufacturing expert, but I agree with you. It seems too easy… they could’ve showed up at the Western Forge auction and had a large chunk of what they needed for dirt cheap. Yes the machines were old, yes Western Forge went out of business for a reason… but the fact still stands that...

I wouldn’t say past their useful life. Most of that stuff can live forever as long as it’s cared for and someone has the knowledge to rebuild it. I agree though, setting up a new factory with old machinery like that would have its challenges. But then again, it couldn’t be much worse than SBD...
