What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Still chasing ways to improve efficiency on my garage door short of replacing it. Single pane that’s drafty- plastic seemed to help and the bubble out shows it’s holding air-looks trashy from outside. Next I found these blackout shade that’s reflective on one side, black on other. Easily...

Calling perfectionists vs ‘send it people - mini split placement

What about line set exit? I was just cut a hole and caulk a notched surface mounting block

Seems to work? Ppl are voting Did you do a block with j channels? I have 2x4 wall so o would have to span 3 studs to get a secure mount.

Calling perfectionists vs ‘send it people - mini split placement

Ah yea I’ve seen that…I don’t have the skill set to start taking siding down. Does look nice tho

Calling perfectionists vs ‘send it people - mini split placement

Now I’m kinda entertaining it. Everyone keeps. Talking about noise and vibration issues. I’m also worried about vinyl flex/expansion. Area doesn’t get any sun

Zone 6/Minnesota - minisplit vs natural gas for maintaining ~50F in winter?

Also in MN, I just bought a 24k Senville aura unit for 700sqft garage. Probably oversized for the space, but I was more concerned about heat than cooling. TBD on performance once I get it installed

Calling perfectionists vs ‘send it people - mini split placement

My concern was how close it would be to the AC unit and air flow. Pic doesn’t do justice but two feet over would just be 🤙 between the two

Calling perfectionists vs ‘send it people - mini split placement

Not prepared to hang it on the wall, worried about flex and the thing is 135lbs… but I see your point

Calling perfectionists vs ‘send it people - mini split placement

After the utmost care in measurements making sure I would have the perfect exit point on the exterior wall, I failed to realize I’ll be about 2 feet short on the line set from ideal condenser position. I wanted the IDU to sit fairly center in 3 car garage for optimal air flow, ultimately does...

    Garage seals, concrete, winter weather

Attempt to install plastic layer on my single pane windows initially looked good but the weather seal duck tape failed overnight. Didn’t really stick to polystyrene backing. Aluminum foil tape might be better??

    Garage seals, concrete, winter weather

Nothing to do with overhangs for me. My garage is sloped so car melt rolls down and meets the garage door bottom seal and anything that creeps under freezes. The bottom seal is also accumulating water somehow and all it drains out the sides when the door goes up- contributing to more ice buildup.

I was all set for mini split, but…

Did you mount yours on the ceiling? How does it look like with line sets exiting? Best option is high on wall like most. Trying to keep lower wall space clear

I was all set for mini split, but…

I feel most I’ve read about have a freeze protection setting at 46deg.

    Garage seals, concrete, winter weather

I’m on a mission to seal my overhead door as best I could short of buying new doors before committing to a mini split. R6ish, 2-layer door with single pane top glass living the life in MN. Bottom seal - replaced this summer. Flattens, freezes and sticks to concrete, ice melt draining from...

I was all set for mini split, but…

Yea I’m getting the vibe that mini split may be the way to go. I could get a pioneer 24k unit and do 95% of the install myself. Just hire a random hvac guy to vacuum out the lines.

I was all set for mini split, but…

Yes but don’t have a place to put the unit in “typical” corners that allows for proper venting. Only corner is where my golf sim is in third bay. 🤷‍♂️first world problems

I was all set for mini split, but…

700sqft in MN and pay $0.14/kw

I was all set for mini split, but…

I figured as much, at least placement of the mini split as pictured would blow the warm air at me if I want to bump it higher than likely 46* I’d keep it at.
