I am near Bothell, about 30min north of Seattle. If you have a spot to recommend that would be great. I’m not sure what burning varnish smells like, but the smell coming from the motor isn’t something I’ve smelled. So maybe that is what it is.

I’ll put some thinner oil in it. I’ve been running the 40w stuff for the last 6 years without issue, I can turn my pump shaft wheel with one finger, so it seems more like the motor is about to cross over to the afterlife. 😂

Thanks for all the input, I’ve been a. It busy at work and haven’t had a ton of time to figure out the problem. I need to order a new motor, does anyone have a recommendation as to where to buy one? I can of course just do a quick google search, but would rather use a recommended place if given...

It hasn’t shut off/reset. I assume it resets if it gets too hot, but it hasn’t tripped the reset yet.

Thanks for your input, the motor and pump both turn, the tank fills with air, it’ll run for about 1 minute before the smoke starts. It hasn’t tripped the breaker yet, I usually turn it off because of the smoke.

Thanks for the input, I did blow it out as best I could, but I’ll do it again after I open it up to see if there is more to be cleared out.

Single phase, I’ll do some research to see where the centrifugal switch is and what condition it’s in.

I did notice these string like things look pretty well melted, not sure what that means if anything. The fan at the rear near the shaft just inside the housing does appear...

I’ll check it out, I thought if it was a bearing that it would probably have seized and wouldn’t even turn the belt, but I’ll check it out when I have the chance to pull it apart. From the spec sheet it uses sealed bearings. I’ll check out the capacitor too. Thanks again for the help.

Yeah I thought about that too, but I wasn’t near the motor when I was changing the oil. I’m not super familiar with the smell of burning oil, but this one smells more electrical/plastic like. I ran it 3 times (probably shouldn’t have) thinking if it was oil it would burn off. But all three times...

I will note that the motor sounds a lot high pitch than normal when this started happening. Not sure is that means anything.

Yeah, after the break in oil I changed it with this stuff. I misspoke before, after talking to my wife we are probably closer to 250 hrs, still doesn’t seem like much for a motor like this to go out, but I don’t know that much about it.

No, I’m in the Seattle area. I bought a box of it when I first bought the compressor and have only used this oil and have not had problems before. Should I be using something a little thinner?
