Metal Clad vs Conduit in Pole Building Shop

With exposed 3/4 EMT, I think that can do the entire job without bending anything. For as few runs as I will have, it's going to be faster and much cheaper to buy pre-bent fittings. Sounds silly to most, but for this DIYer, it seems to make sense.

Metal Clad vs Conduit in Pole Building Shop

No idea wtf this is, but it's not contributing to the thread I created. Sounds like you boys need to settle this like men - over a game of golf, a scotch and a bro hug! 😁

Metal Clad vs Conduit in Pole Building Shop

Clearly, I'm no electrician and I'm not 100% sure if this is a little jab or a serious question. Either way, I assume that I can use the conduit as the ground. Where running a ground wire will work but is not required. Is this layman's interpretation close?

Metal Clad vs Conduit in Pole Building Shop

So, here's what I've settled on. Exposed 3/4" EMT everywhere. May be some areas where 1/2 is sufficient, but I want a consistent look. It will cost slightly more but I should have room for the inevitable tweaks that will come up.

Correct. The extra labor is in bending and installing the conduit

Metal Clad vs Conduit in Pole Building Shop

My apologies, I meant to say Metal Clad cable, not EMT. None of the wiring will be exposed outside of the wall (4' of plywood + 9' galvalume to ceiling. Ceiling also galvalume.). I intend to complete the wiring before I finish the interior.

Metal Clad vs Conduit in Pole Building Shop

Experts (and everyone else ;>) , I've received 2 quotes from a freelancing electrician who works full-time for a very reputable local contractor) to wire my shop in my pole building in Central Ohio. The finished space is 30'x30' and the quotes are as follows: EMT - $850 materials, $3,000...

Thank You! I'm clearly no expert, but i suspect the barn mfg in the 80s did not design the trusses to hold much weight. I will try to add more details about the trusses.

Hank, excellent question. IMO, the trusses look cheap and weak. The barn mfg was from 1980s. I see no sign of sag in them, but I also am concerned that the ceiling weight will be too much for them. I will look to see what markings the trusses have.

I never really considered the roof load in the equation. Only the ceiling load.

Bert, thank you! I am very concerned about the weight on the trusses. I will ask my metal supplier about the deeper rib option.
