great video. thanks for the link. i put the old capacitor back in to fire the motor to watch the switch and it's working fine. the capacitor still reads capacitance but it blew a hole in the end where the wires connect where the fluid leaked out. i'm wondering if the capacitor i replaced it...

just to update this thread at the beginning of 2014 winter season i inspected my heater and the wires looked fine near the thermostat, a couple weeks or so in to using the heater i noticed it wasn't heating properly and acting weird, i looked at the wires and one was all burnt and ready to fall...

i agree with stafford, if it's a gable roof where the peak of the roof is above the garage door there is not much load on that "header"

i'm not an acid stain expert, but i just acid stained my patio and most likely your stain came off due to excess scrubbing, when you neutralize it it's not really 'final' till it dries. you'll always see that spot even if you re-acid stain it.. sorry for the bad news
