    Calling mjozefow (Vise Advice)

I'm not the guy your looking for and my opinion doesn't hold nearly as much weight as his... however.... I have had good luck buying old USA iron at garage sales and flea markets. I would wait and look for an older american one before pulling the trigger too fast on import - just my 2 cents

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Skipskip I recently stopped at a garage sale and seen a vise like that. It stuck in my mind because of it's size and the stud behind the rear jaw like the one in your photo. This guys's was a Prentiss that was made in NY and was labeled just behind that stud on the flat top just before the...

Can my old Parker vise be saved?

Easy fix that's going to be covered up anyhow by the slide. Like others have said on here, cast iron can be repaired ...arc welded with NIROD or brazed with a gas welding torch. The part has to be THOUGHLY perheated (400-1200 degrees for an arc weld and at least 350 degrees for a braze.) I...

Anyone know what vise this is?

$20 isn't too bad of a price either. don't forget to factor in shipping however. Like mjozefow said, it's a medium duty vise. If a vise breaks it's most likely the users fault from expecting to much of it or using it improperly...

    Got my New Athol

Nice vise! Even nicer that you got the copper jaws with it since your going to put it on your welding table. I think I saw that on Ebay, seemed like that guy had his whole collection on there if it's the same one I'm thinking of! You made a wise purchase! Looks like you have a Reed...

Anyone know what vise this is?

Looks like a Wilton Shop King without the pipe jaws on it. However, the one that I have says Wilton on one side and Shop King on the other. If yours does not then perhaps it's a knock-off.

Columbian 205 vise progress and give YOUR input on color choices...

Boiler This is a big vise and I guess you have to see it besides something for scale so here ya go - a picture with a tape! The top of the jaw is at my belly button height which is my comfortable work level. You can see in the picture that it is about 5" taller then my work bench height. The...

    Advice Needed

I gotta believe that if you have room for a socket then you have room for a die grinder or a dremel with a cut off wheel. With one of those it doesn't matter about the thread length or rounded off heads - just cut the damn thing off. Either that or you can get specialty sockets like trunk...

Columbian 205 vise progress and give YOUR input on color choices...

Kole, When I seen your art work it made me smile! I was sort of partial to that medium Maui blue color - UNTIL YOU WENT AND DID THAT!!! :) Traditionalists would **** if I painted it with the sun, birds, and island theme! :wtf: GeorgiaHybrid, I've used that Tractor and Implement enamel...

Columbian 205 vise progress and give YOUR input on color choices...

Finished the stand for my vise today. My neighbor got the base from a yard sale. It's a flywheel with square tubing bolted to it and it was holding a big industrial fan! My best guess is it's a flywheel from a semi truck or bulldozer or something like that because the damn thing is HEAVY and...

    My Columbian 205-M3

My wife has a family member that works in a demolition company. He was on a crew in Alabama tearing down an old airport and found this in one of the maintenace hangers bolted to a table. This thing is pretty big, I've got my Record #6 in the background for scale. Looks pretty much unused and...

Garage sale green and white Sears floor jack ...

So I goto this garage sale 3 weeks ago. The wife's buying antique ball jars and I'm milling around for some tools. Guys got a new adjustable Ridgid basin wrench in the package. I think to myself "I don't need this damn thing, I haven't used the one I got, but for $5 bucks what the hell!" So I...

To cut or not to cut..... control joints

Even with fiber mesh, wire mesh, AND rebar buried in it concrete can still crack. The purpose of a control or expansion joint is not to prevent the crack, but to encourage the cracks to go where you want them to go. Torque1st is right in saying get the cuts and fill them in with a concrete...

    Wrist Watch

Working around vehicles and equipment is going to eventually snag your watch and scar it. Doesn't really matter what kind you have (although I too have a Solar G shock and like it.) Might I suggest one that goes around your belt loop? Not like the pocket watches of yesteryear but the new...
