    Beach Cart

Thanks, I used a 1/2" EMT conduit bender. They look a little like a shepherds hook. It is very easy to bend 1/2", 3/4" is a little harder.

    Beach Cart

I needed a beach cart and did not want to spend a lot of money, so of course make it yourself. Bought two $12 harbor freight 13" wheels and about $10 of EMT, and two hours later I had this. I hope no one wants a drawing, because I just started bending and welding around the black box.

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

I inherited this tool box from my Grandfather. He kept the price tag inside with the keys. I suspect he bought the box in the late 1960's and used it for the inside tools, never saw the barn. I wonder what that $66 would be in today's dollars? I have passed it on to my 9 year old son, to...

    Welder for 14 year old

Yes, I made the table with the Harbor Freight welder. I used it as practice, did the welds that would not be seen first. By the end I was pretty good at welding 1.5"x 14 ga tubing. You learn things like turn the wire speed down by one number when capping a tube to prevent burn through, and...

    Welder for 14 year old

It was a good starter welder for me, but I am over 40. He will get frustrated with the Harbor Freight wire, don't even put it in the welder. Buy a spool of .030 from Lincoln at Home Depot and use it from the start. I have built a welding table, fixed my exhaust, and am working on a recumbent...

    Show us your welding projects

Not as nice as some of the projects on here but I made it myself. 1.5 inch tubing with just an 11ga top. I still do not have drywall in my garage so I need to roll it outside for welding projects. So I needed it fairly light. Still need to add some expanded metal for the bottom shelf and...

    Sail shade support

Oh yea, posts were $80 each, but I got them at cost and they were not galvanized. I painted a couple of coats rustoleum on them.

    Sail shade support

I put up a 18'X18' shade sail over my patio last year. I used 3.5OD tube with 1/4" wall for my posts. Obtained from a local conveyor company. I used 21' long pcs with 4' below ground level and 17' out of ground. This worked just fine and I am able to tighten the sail nicely. But when we get...

    Wej-It Anchors for lift

I work at a conveyor company and we wej-it a lot of things to concrete floors. When the hammer drill bits wear out they drill smaller holes. This is most likely your problem. The bits are difficult to measure because the two points of carbide on the end a cut a an angle. But worn out bits...

    A year in a life.

Use a jack to pull the pole out of the ground. I have a Hi-Lift jack, also called a farm jack, that I use to pull large fence posts out with, and it works so easy I would think it would pull that pole out. Just bolt a short 2x4 to the pole, lay a 2x6 on the ground and jack away. The jack has a...

    Wood plank garage floor

How about some cement backer board, then tile the floor and wall in a corner. They also make fire resistant panels for around wood burning stoves. I have jacked up some large farm equipment in barns with 2" thk wood floors, so a car should be no problem, just watch out for soft spots.

Opening a garage door that's really a wall

How about using two chain hoists, hang them from the building trusses. Put two eye bolts in the top of the wall to attach the hooks. Build the wall with two 1" pipes protruding from the bottom, then drill two holes in the floor to accept the pipes, this will keep the wall upright and in place...

Great magazine. I have been a subscriber for a couple of years. Where else could you learn how to form your own carbon fiber? They have a great forum also.

    New Garage 28x30

The hydrant actually stuts the water off about three feet below ground. Then the water left in the standpipe runs downs and leaks out into an area of gravel underground. The plumbers completed the transformation today, so we will call for the final inspection tomorrow. Wish me luck.

    New Garage 28x30

Not much has happened for a while. The final inspection was held up because my city has outlawed freeze proof hydrants. One of these was cemented into my garage floor in September. They were outlawed in November, and no grandfather exceptions allowed. So my final inpection failed, and expert...

    New Garage 28x30

Yes, it is nice to have the car inside. Call me a wimp, but I really hate scaping the frost off the windows. And it is nice to have the car semi warm in the morning. The attached garage is insulated and house wrapped so it stays above 40F, even in the dead of winter. It is also nice to banish...

    New Garage 28x30

Down under please read my previous post. I moved all the junk to the new garage, now named "the barn" by the wife. And now I can get the my car into the attached garage. Has anyone out there figured out how to take a picture without getting your 3 yr old in it. If you try to take a picture...

    New Garage 28x30

Yes, it will be heated eventually. I have some electric base board laying around, I'll use them if I can figure a good way of mounting them. Or I might just buy some overhead electric blower units. Right now I need to add some outlets and lights. Then insulate, drywall, and add an opener. Then...
