What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Same here. Uniform of the day for yard work is straw hat, long sleeve UV shirt, shaded safety glasses, jeans and lots of sunscreen.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

It's not for the faint of heart... But you eventually either get acclimated to it or become addicted to air conditioning.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Similar to the Navy method to unclog a toilet using the firehose. It did tend to leave brown stains on the ceiling though...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I thought you were supposed to put it in a paper bag, light it on fire on their front porch and ring the doorbell.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Yeah, mixed gas (other than Argon/Helium) would not work on aluminum. Does the cylinder have a label on it?

    A/C just died.

Just went through this with my son's AC. Bad high pressure switch, then the capacitor went out and the fan motor died. $200 service call for the pressure switch. Fan motor was already squeaking when the pressure switch was replaced, then it just quit. I put in a new cap and it ran for one day...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Very low chance of contamination, standard practice is to pull a vacuum on the cylinders before filling. Are you sure it is labeled as welding grade argon?

Can't you pull the front cover off the panel and see what size conduit connector is used on the main supply?

Welding mild steel to hard mystery plate

For welding mild steel to an unknown hardenable steel, I would use E309 or E312 stainless stick electrodes with a 400 F preheat of the hardened steel. The stainless electrodes have much more ductility than carbon steel electrodes and the austenitic welds will not be susceptible to hardening by...

1.66 inches is the dimension required by the manufacturing specification ASME B16.22.

Adding a circuit the electrician "forgot"

I see a wire crossing the ceiling joists in your first photo in the area of your pointer, as well as a wire running parallel to a joist to the right of your ppointer. Maybe the wire is there, but was not pulled into the box. Can you remove the box to check?

    Running 250psi- what piping system?

I agree with those recommending Type K or L copper pipe with silver solder. The downside of schedule 40 carbon steel is that threaded joints cut pretty deep and I have seen them fail at the threads in industrial cooling water systems at 150-250 psi. All of our power plant service air piping was...

    Running 250psi- what piping system?

All the ones I welded for TDU or ejection air were 304 stainless. But that was hull numbers older than 672. Although I can see where using Inconel would allow for thinner piping with less weight.

Safe to install an angle grinder cut off wheel on a bench grinder?

OP needs an angle grinder bench stand to hold the grinder steady. Don't miss an opportunity to buy a new tool! Or make your own and bolt it to the side handle holes. https://tomtomsshop.com/products/angle-grinder-kit

    welding pinholes in sheetmetal,TIG?

The manganese content of ER70S-6 wire is high enough to make MIG welds very difficult to planish compared to TIG welds. The rapid cooling rate of MIG overlapping spot welds makes the weld very hard, while the much slower cooling rate of TIG allows the welds to be soft enough to planish. EZ Grind...

    Welding rods

The 5P and Fleetweld 37 are cellulose coated, not low hydrogen, so they should be fine. Those actually need moisture to keep the coating from flaking off and should never be stored in an oven or hotbox. The E308-16 stainless rods and Jetweld 70 are both low hydrogen electrodes and will not...
