I hate that. Fortunately we are in a low-humidity area although only about a mile from the coast. I treat all the machine surfaces with a non-silicon wax Liberon wax polish, Black Bison. Any spots of rust that do appear, I attack with 400 grit emery and steel wool.

I bought two slabs of Macrocarpa three years ago and made one into an outdoor bench seat. It had some bad cracks. Like you, I filled them with epoxy then coated it with a marine finish. Yes... it is Autumn here. Lots of leaves that need cleaning up.

I have it in pieces and de-greased. The jaws are way better than average. i'll get them off. Otherwise I can spot no wear at all. Just a few nicks where someone used it as an anvil.

I’m near Amberley, in New Zealand. The vise has 25 stamped on the underside. But I think that does not mean much in terms of manufacturing year. ‘RECORD’ lettering is raised and the boss is straight rather than curved. Likely post-1955. Maybe 60s. $60 NZD. $36 USD. A fine, fine deal!
