    Trailer Winch Wiring

Brew - what you described is exactly what I did minus the switch. I have an additional plug at the tow vehicle battery so the lines running to the hitch can be dead for safety, then plugged in to charge the trailer battery or directly run the winch.

    Show us your welding projects

How about fab up a sheet metal drip pan that acts as a liner in the cart - put it in the cart first, then the fuel cans? Wouldn't take up any room, but not sure how many pans you need.

Advice - CL Miller Spot Welder

Great - thank you duck. I'm a fan of older American machines, but not if they weren't that great when made lol. That's money back in my pocket - rare for this site! Thanks

Advice - CL Miller Spot Welder

roller - that's pretty cool, basically a "freehand" spot welder huh? I can see that having even more versatility. Nice! duck - he (she) had a H frame hydraulic press for $150 that if I wasn't on vacation I would have picked up. http://pensacola.craigslist.org/tls/5010291536.html Looking at it...

Advice - CL Miller Spot Welder

Thanks for the assistance and info guys. Just picked it up after talking to the gentleman that owned it - nice old guy in his 90s. His daughter was helping (forcing?) him downsize a bit. We tested it on some washers and it seemed to work just fine. Thanks again.

Advice - CL Miller Spot Welder

Thanks 2ool - I'll ask him to demo. From reading on the web, seems like there's mixed reviews on a 110v unit for sheet metal (automotive). I can easily justify a new tool lol, just don't want to think it'll handle panels if that's at the end of its range. Thanks again

Advice - CL Miller Spot Welder

Guys - I'm on vacation and found this on Craigslist- he's asking $275.00. I'm a tinkerer / car guy, so I can see its usefulness, just looking for yalls opinion on if the price looks good, and anything I should check for. It's a 110v version with 18 inch tongs. Thoughts?

    wheel kit idea?

On buying a kit? Haven't seen one, but welding up a perimeter frame/cradle that the unit sits in seems like an easy solution. Affix the wheels to the frame and you'd be good. Might want a locking wheel - before your torpedo becomes a torpedo (or more likely, gets bumped and roles into something...

    Trailer project

I'd recommend straps like this: http://www.macscustomtiedowns.com/product/110/TieDowns And D rings like this: http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/erickson-weld-on-forged-flip-anchor-ring-15000-lb-maximum The straps with the spring closure will help make sure that as the straps loosen in the...

    Trailer project

I would strongly recommend having D rings welded to the front and back of the trailer - have a professional welder weld on a triangle piece of 1/4" or greater metal to the corners that ties both the front/side back/side rails together, then weld the D ring to that. They way you have the cars...

    Modifying a utlity lawn trailer

Take a look at your subject line - Its a utility / lawn trailer - please don't try to make it in to a car hauler. Aside from the fact that most states require trailer axle brakes on car haulers, a utility trailer probably won't have tie downs hefty enough to keep a car in place if you should be...

    Delay Wiper Switch

After seeing hundreds of posts on various automotive forums looking for a rotary switch that will control a late model windshield wiper motor, I decided to tackle the problem. There are great companies selling complete kits for hundreds of dollars, and that might be a viable solution for some...

who has a full socket set up and how is it organized?

I used small pieces of 1 inch board and dowels. Each set is on a separate board so I can grab it and take it with me if I want. I put red plugs on unused dowels so I don't spend all day looking for a missing socket that isn't missing. I got lazy and stopped labeling the boards - maybe one day...

    Oil catch drum contraption

daveroy - I was actually just thinking about pouring some epoxy end one end of the T, setting at a slight angle so that as it self-leveled, it would cure and be flush with the center drain and higher on the outside of the T (and doing the same thing on the other end after the first side dried)...

    Oil catch drum contraption

So, I pretty much make a mess out of changing my oil. I've tried the giant cookie sheet, the big pans from auto parts stores and once even laid a big plastic sheet out, with the cookie pan and catch pan - still had spills on the concrete. This weekend I tried using my cement mixing tray and it...

running mig from a small generator ?

Greg - I don't have the details on my generator because its not at the house, but I successfully used my "little" generator to power my Lincoln 175 (110). I know it sounds apples to oranges - but as far as the regulator kicking the RPMs up when I struck an arc - it did work.

    HOT DEAL Index!!

Found the 2 piece MW 'deal' an hour and half away so I picked it up. Went an hour and a half to the other HD and traded the 2 piece in for the 3 piece. Great deal - thanks for letting us all know. Also picked up 3 BP hammers, 12 dewalt blades, the MW bit set and a few other gadgets. After...
