Air Compressor for the Shop - New or Used, 40/60/80 Gallon?

I've had a few compressors over the years, a Craftsman direct drive for a few months. Loud, inefficient and returned. Bought a Sanborn 60 gallon single stage that lasted me 15 or so years. Found a used 80 gallon Champion R15B driving around town and bought it for $250. It lasted me 10 years...

Any Baratza Coffee Grinder Owners Here???

Have had a Preciso for 10-15 years that got me into my espresso journey. It has worked very well and is on 'brew' duty now as I stepped up to a better espresso grinder. It did a good job on espresso, but really shines for french press & drip. I've also purchased an Encore for my daughter...

Advice; Speedaire compressor from 1977, keep fixing or retire it?

I went thru this situation 2 years ago. '70's Speedaire 5hp 80 gallon horizontal tank, and the tank sprung a leak. A new tank was going to cost me $1,500-$2,000 to replace, so I scrapped the tank, and kept the Champion R15 pump and GE motor just in case and then bought an Emax E350 to replace...

Is this price reasonable for 40x30 detached garage?

$90/sq ft from a reputable contractor including permits (ie: turnkey project) is a good price. Yes you can save considerable money by doing things yourself, if you have the time and ability. But to have a project like this completed and your input is signing a contract and signing checks...

    I need a pole saw

I have a 40v Greenworks pole saw. I use it to work on 2 hunting properties (80 & 180 acres). It gets used often, but not near commercial use. It's been excellent. I keep the chain sharp and cuts thru anything. Best part is that the saw is pretty inexpensive.

    Air Compressor Pipe

I plumbed my (24 x 30) shop with 3/4" copper 20 years ago. No issues with leaks or corrosion. Can't remember if L or M. Around 100 lf with 3 drops. In my house garage I ran Amazon Rapidair (knockoff) to my dad's 50 year old Monky Wards 15 gallon compressor. (Painted a lot of cars in the...

    Ratchet Recommendations. New or Old?

I've purchased a few (4 or 5) Williams (USA) round head 72t ratchets. Other ratchets that I've had for decades are Cman pear head quick release from the 70's & 80's, some round head Cman from 90's and a few Snap-on. The Williams are very nice in comparison.

    Grizzly Air Compressor

If it were me, I would look to save a few dollars and look at the IR TS4N5 at Tractor Supply. Similar specs, although down a few (claimed) cfm @ 90 psi (15/18.5). Both motors run @ 3450, which is not ideal IMHO, I'd rather have 1750. Both 2 stage, 80 gallons, but the IR is a known compressor...

A look inside my 25yr old Speedaire compressor tank.

My 1970's Speedaire 80 gallon tank with a Champion head sprung a leak last summer. I bought it ($300) well used about 15 years ago and it has served me well. I had just finished spraying a safe and was shutting down the shop for the night and heard the hissing. Spent the next month or so...

The only pic I have before I broke it down. Its a mid 70's Speedaire with a Champion R15A pump and GE 5hp motor. Both are still in good condition, so I'll store or sell.

Arrived yesterday - Emax 350 - 5hp/80 gallon. Way bigger than I expected. Its replacing an 80 gallon horizontal unit. Waiting on a whip to connect to electric and have a little sweating to do to connect the air to existing piping. Looking forward to firing it up. Got a great deal on Amazon...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Well, along those lines, my dad, who will be 83 this year, decided that he didn't need the Montgomery Wards, 20gal/3hp belt drive compressor that he bought new in the mid-70's. So, he asked if I wanted it. It's in great condition and I have all the paperwork, including the reciept! Its the...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

After digging out my spray guns and fresh air system a few weeks ago to spray a vintage safe, my compressor kicked on as I was cleaning up and I heard the dreaded hiss. Crossed my fingers and hoped it was from a fitting somewhere, but wasn't so lucky. Wet mark on the floor and could see the...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Restoring an old Mosler safe. Hopefully, last coat of high build primer applied, need to sand and final prep the inside, out, shelves and drawer for epoxy primer then paint. Still need to setup garage for paint, so will need some time (week or so???) to move, clean, and set up ventilation...

Good info on the respirators, thanks! Just ordered a new mask and cartridges this morning. Also received a Makita 1/2” cordless impact, 2 - 5ah batteries and charger. Took it to the farm today to remove a broken disk and it took the 1 5/16” nut off no problem in no time. Took a 2’ breaker...

Any one plant a food plot? Tractor attachments?

I have about 4 acres or so of food plots on my 80 acres. I started with a Kubota B7100 (16-18hp) and a 4' brush hog to reclaim 25 years of growth and a Cub Cadet 982 garden tractor with a 3 point tiller. Over the past few years, I sold the Cub Cadet and bought a Kubota M4050 (50hp), 7' brush...

Fujitsu vs. Mitsubishi Ductless Mini Split

Had a Mitsubishi unit installed with 3 heads in one office area of my business over 12 years ago, still working and very few issues over the years. Had 5 Fujitsu units installed with 15 heads in another area 4 years later and have had many issues, including having to replace 3 of the units and...

looking for a recommendation on a small 'super' cooler

I have an Rtic soft pack 20 cooler, a Yeti Hopper 20 (softside) and Yeti Tundra 65 hard cooler. IMHO, since I haven't done any experimental comparisons, is that it comes down to quality of manufacture. In comparison, my Yeti Hopper zipper is much heavier duty than the Rtic. The pull on the...

What should this building cost? High cost of building...

This is about spot on. If you're looking to save $, eliminate stained concrete in the basement for smooth, change hardwood to carpet, and go very easy on your kitchens and baths (reasonable cabinets with laminate tops) - IF you're truly budget conscious. The issue we're dealing with right now...

    Detailing inside garage

I agree with FRP panels. We cut them as ceiling tile in an underground area that has condensation/leaks and got tired of ruining fiberglass tiles. They've been installed for years with no issues. I would also cut the OSB about 2" above the floor (as said above), but I wouldn't use a cement...
