Shop planning (with a floor plan...)

A door from the shop area to the lean to would be nice. The walk from the shop to the container is a long one as you have it. I would also want a door on the other side of the shop going outside. You don't want to have to walk through the living space to go from the outside to the shop.

    Heat wont start

Just some closure. There is a vacuum line going from the inducer to what I assume is a sensor that senses the inducer is running. It was cracking so it was cycling on and off. removed cracked portion of line. Problem solved.

    Heat wont start

I made the mistake of telling the service company that I have two furnaces so I wasn't desperate. I will check the inducer and the main gas valve. Intermittent problems are fun to trouble shoot.

    Heat wont start

My thermostat called for heat and the furnace did this. I lowered the thermostat for a few seconds and turned it back up. It kicked on no problem. I kept if off while we were not home and only turned it on when we were there. It did it again the next day. HVAC guy can't come for a week...

    Pouring from 5 gallon bucket

I use a plastic 5 gallon gas container. Just make sure it is labeled well enough that the wife doesn't think it is gas.

Lock Smiths: Opinions on Simplex push button combination entry lock set please.

I used to manage movie theatres and we used a bunch of the older square ones. Tough as nails. Not sure if this is the case now or not but the default code on all of these used to be 1 and 5 at the same time then 3. I used to try the code on doors I saw in the wild, it often would open the door.

    Andersen Windows?

I am a window dealer. Our main window line is Andersen. We do not display the 70 series as they are not that great of a window. Good enough for a garage, maybe. We also sell Sunrise, they are a very nice vinyl window. The price you saw at Home Depot will go up by a factor of 2 or 3 times...

    Old barn vapor barrier

I have an old barn, insert glamour shot. It currently has very non sealed wood siding on it with ridged insulation in the walls. I will someday either replace the siding with new wood or more likely metal. I am putting OSB on the walls so I can use it as a shop. It will not be heated...

Bench question, backsplash? Other trim method?

Applying 1x2 select pine to the edges will dress it up nice. Hit the top edge with a router if you want to get even fancier.

Boiler room flooded - remove water with shop vac

I have used a fair number of tools in my life. I have never felt like a tool was actively trying to kill me like the time I used a 100' snake. If you get any slack in the line and the head gets a caught on something it can get ugly. Drain snake story: I used to work at Home Depot. A guy...

    DIY AC install?

This is what I was worried about. Not looking to screw the guys who actually know what they are doing. I like to have projects and I am not opposed to saving some money, but I know there are times when jobs are best left to the pros. Looks like "let the pro do it" is the consensus. What is...

    DIY AC install?

We just purchased a new house that has two separate forced air furnaces. One feeds the original 1890 portion of the house and the other feeds the early 2000s addition. The furnace the feeds the old part of the house heats and cools about 2000 sq feet. This unit is fairly new and works well...

Windows AC in a fireplace? YES!

They way I understand it is you block it off in such a way that the front of the ac is in the room and the back of the ac is in the fireplace. Cold air from the front goes in the house, hot air from the back goes up the chimney. Actually pretty smart, except the condensation issue.

    Tree House Project

I have not made too much progress since picture. I have put the roof sheeting on. I am trying to work up the nerve to get up on the roof to put on shingles. I do have some older build pictures if there is an interest.
