Here’s how my 5196 turned out. Added a little black to accent some parts. Otherwise just kept it metal with some Penetrol for the finish. With this thing freshly greased up it operates soooo smooth.

You can also see the “6” (or 9?) stamped by itself, and it’s also stamped on the other side at the same spot.

So mine has the following: “W 5V7814S” The 5V7 and the 814S looks like a different font and are kinda angled from each other, for whatever it’s worth. Here’s a pic:

For my 3500 inverter I ran for 1-2 hrs, changed oil. Run for 4-6 hours, changed oil again. Did a quick once over on most of the fasteners and hoses to looks for loose stuff or leaks or whatever. I did do a full tank run, about 18-20 hrs but that was just mostly testing the genny with a longer...

Thanks! This one was a bit of a impulse buy. Had went out to look at a Prentiss vise that sold before I could make it. Saw this one on Marketplace and decided to keep driving to take a look. At this point I didn’t want to go home empty handed, was a ways away from home by this point :)

Not sure on the age or even how “vintage” it would even be. But any help on IDing age would be appreciated mostly out of my own curiosity.

Picked up this socket/wrench metal toolbox when my factory was downsizing their workstations. Missing a couple things and also had a bunch of other brand (but still USA made) sockets. Pics make the sockets look small lol. But for reference the biggest one is 1-7/8” Smaller ones around 1”...

Picked up this Reed 204 1/2 yesterday. Not sure how to date these, but mine has the “Patented Nov 3, 1908” on the side. I’ve seen others with that along with other later patent dates, with the earliest being 1912. Since mine doesn’t have those later dates, dunno if that means this one is...

I never made it out to the garage today to check for numbers, but I did buy a Reed 204 1/2 so I guess a pretty productive day overall haha

I’m pretty sure it had numbers on it altho the only pics I took are of only one side that only has a “6” stamped on it. I seem to think the other side had a number sequence. I’ll take a peek next time I’m in the garage and post up what I find.

Ah ok, right on. I figured maybe lightly oiling and wiping down would help with any rust after blueing. I’ve blued some small stuff with good results but admittedly not anything this big or cast like this. So I’m not 100% sure how the finish would turn out for a vise I guess not masking the...

Ah yep, I took a look at it and I think I see what you mean. I figured I’d give it a quick clean and 3 hours later the entire thing is apart and completely cleaned and wire-wheeled :lol: :lol_hitti

Picked this 5196 up today, figured I'd share on here since this thread popped up a few times when I was looking it up. Date code Feb '56. Pretty dirty and rusty in spots, with random paint overspray, and has had a tough life. But maybe at some point I'll work on making it look a little shinier...
