MaxJax Custom Install - Porsche 993

I've added a BendPak QuickJack to the Dannmar MaxJax, the latter that I have had for over a decade and hasn't failed me yet. I wanted something I could use in my driveway, therefore the QuickJack No point in talking about the QuickJack as there is plenty of info on-line but I did make a...

    Plumbing - Part Number Search

Thanks but I'll stick to what I have and I do have 3 quarter-turn valves already in my home that hardly see much action and what I do not like about them is there are sealed and not rebuildable. It looks like I found my valves at EMCO, the whole valve and not the cartridge, but that is OK. I'll...

    Plumbing - Part Number Search

For those more experienced than I am, I am looking for the part number for the following item. I have a main water line shut-off valve on each side of my city's water meter with a 3/4 inch copper pipe. The valves are coming up on 28 years old and I shut them off when going on vacation...

MaxJax Custom Install - Porsche 993

Just fine. I have to check the date of installation. Does time ever fly. It must be 10 years now. I just wish my garage were much larger and my home much smaller. I'd sooner have a huge garage and just live above it.

    Astro Pneumatic Tool Company

Well compare it to the stock cap that spins on with two fingers.

Astro Pneumatic Tool 7858523 NO. 23 Radiator Test Cap (Late Model Audi, VW, Porsche) Looking at both the factory rad cap and the Astro Pneumatic Test Cap, the threads are different in shape. Just go and buy an Audi, VW or Porsche rad cap and then compare the threads. Pitch is right as far as I...

Why are wrenches so short? I fail to get enough leverage.

I just checked my OEXM 19 and maybe they had a different numbering system back then in 1975, but it is 6 3/4" long end to end. When placed in my palm, all that sticks out is the open end and the closed end. So that is short. I might still have the Snap-On catalog from back then as well. I...

SKAT BLAST Owners - Power Gun Nozzles?

Thanks! Downloaded the PDF...perfectly clear now as to where all the parts go. And sure enough, I found the Skat Blast Manual and all the extra sheets for the "HEPA Upgrade Kit for the V-40", "Maintenance Required for Vacuum Final Filter Bag" and the "S-25 & C-25 Siphon Gun Instructions &...

Why are wrenches so short? I fail to get enough leverage.

I guess I have the first part wrong. My Snap-On combination wrenches are short.

Why are wrenches so short? I fail to get enough leverage.

Well get the long ones. I on the other hand bought the shorter OEXM 6 to 19 mm wrenches from Snap-On way back in 1975. I guess I ate my wheaties and back then had stronger arms.

SKAT BLAST Owners - Power Gun Nozzles?

I bought a new Skat Blast 960 Pro some years ago. A solid media blast cabinet and no regrets! I can't remember it coming with a manual so I'll have to look for it. And I know this isn't rocket science, so maybe if I took the end of the power gun apart, it would be obvious where everything goes...

    Maxjax Installs: Post Here

Although my Max Jax is installed differently (shown on another Garage Journal thread), just some thoughts or ideas... Is the garage floor smooth? Are the holes in the base plate large enough for the OD of the anchors to pass through? If so, maybe a large heavy duty fender washer atop the...

Gloves that are resistant to LACQUER THINNER

Thanks everybody! I am going to have a slew of different gloves material types; neoprene, nitrile, etc. And I am going to find a rubber compatibility site in PDF I can download. I have the same for O-rings.

Gloves that are resistant to LACQUER THINNER

I should have thought of this before. I went to a rubber compatibility chart...spot on! I also checked Toluene, it takes a different rubber compound.

Gloves that are resistant to LACQUER THINNER

I don't think the color has anything to do with it other than the black gloves are thicker at Harbor Freight. I think it is the Nitrile that is incompatible with lacquer thinner.

Gloves that are resistant to LACQUER THINNER

I work with lacquer thinner quite often and those blue nitrile gloves we get at Harbor Freight last a few minutes till they swell and fall apart. Fair enough as they were never designed for that. Does anyone know of thin 5, 7 or 9 mil thick gloves that can handle lacquer thinner or acetone...

    Lathe - Leaking Oil

Well I have to wonder why there is an oil sight glass directly under the 3-jaw chuck well above the bedway. Plus when I removed the large plate on the rear of the headstock, it exposes the inside of the headstock. But it has been years so I'll have to check that again. Anyway, no worries, I can...

    Lathe - Leaking Oil

And for decades I have always said "poor people cannot afford to buy junk and rich people don't need to". Most of my Snap-On tools are over 45 years old and I buy what is needed from time to time. Same for my torque wrenches; Snap-On and Precision Instruments and other measurement tools. And...

    Lathe - Leaking Oil

On some lathes, there is a cover plate on the top of the headstock, but in this case since a milling attachment is attached there, the cover plate is on the back side of the headstock. If the casting leaks I might clean the inside and use some glyptal paint (whatever that is...I'll look it up)...

    Lathe - Leaking Oil

Maybe, but I'll know when I strip it down. The owner's manual and line drawing pics is totally useless. I have other things on my plate though. Thanks!
