When did Kmart make hand tools?

Inherited from my grandfather. No idea what date it's from, but seems decent enough for the home toolbox.

Valve Core Tools - What do you use?

Presta valves usually have removable cores now, mostly due to the widespread use of valve extenders on deep rims. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0028N8DGU/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Impact driver turning in the "wrong" direction

Why not try it on a fastener that's not seized to confirm which direction it's turning? If it's turning counterclockwise, the fastener will come loose.

    Free gigantic milling vise

My friend gave me this a couple years ago and I have no idea what to do with it. It must weigh 150lbs. There's a tag on it with the company name Phase II, Secaucus, NJ. Below that it says made in China. I don't know much about it, other than that the sliding jaw seems to move smoothly when...

    Homeowner abominations

I don't post much because there's usually already numerous replies on any given topic that have it covered. This, however, is a thread I can contribute to. When I bought my house about 8 months ago, there was a large piece of scrap wood covering a roughly 2ft x 2ft square hole in the back...

    Thin wrenches?

Maybe some cone wrenches? They're used to adjust bicycle hub bearings. Keep in mind that no thin wrench is meant for high torque. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00H3T8U1M/?tag=atomicindus08-20

    CRAFTSMAN47 feedback

Great experience buying a set of sockets from Craftsman47. USPS screwed something up royally and he kept me informed while solving the issue.

I guess it's my turn for a build thread. Kids go kart

Maybe add a chain guard of some sort. If you have your eyes on the kids at all times it's probably never going to be a problem, but one kid with a finger in the wrong place when another hits the accelerator would be bad.

    park tools

I was a full time bicycle tech for many years before getting into diesel. I've worked in shops and traveled internationally as a race mechanic. Park is great in that they're always developing products to service ever-evolving bike systems. But since this is the Garage Journal, check out the...

Knipex Pliers - You Can't Teach a Dog New Tricks

If you have to make multiple turns of a hex fitting, the pliers wrench is super handy because it has a ratcheting action. You turn the nut, ease pressure on the handle, reposition and repeat. No readjusting with each turn like you have to do with an adjustable wrench to keep a tight fit.

Post Pictures of any vehicles/tools/equipment or projects you worked on recently

Here's a motorcoach project I'm working on. One used engine taken out, one rebuilt engine to go in, and a third engine we purchased from a scrap yard for core parts and Prevost-specific bus parts that did not come with the reman'd engine. The old Allison transmission is also in the photo...

Lisle 58430 Shaft type seal puller

I've used this tool on a number of Subaru cam and crank seals, and it has indeed worked as advertised for me. It can be a little tricky to get it into position in an engine bay, but I've eventually been successful.
