This one was not advertised as an estate sale but it was;

The Hatchet is a Monkey Wards, "Wards Master Quality" the long handled BP is Plumb, the rest are no name.

Ford wrench is taking an E bath so missed the pic, Multi Wrench, 10" Crescent, 10" rigid Pipe, Barcalo DBE Wrench, 1 Proto 2 SK sockets, Slip Joints, Industro Brake tool;
attachment.php

Gear driven screw jack, a bit different than the earlier one:

24" Ridgid pipe wrench this one is now my largest! (18 was the biggest before)
attachment.php

5" of lite rail, small screwdriver, cool old Morse wooden drill stand, Old Fly reel, Old sprinkler head, and Malco Red snips:

Old Makita angle drill, the "D" handle is broke off and the screw in handles are missing, but it has 2 speeds, (mechanical change I think) and the key is there, but it needs brushes IMO...
attachment.php

Hand grinder, I passed on two others, (and a Craftsman tombstone grinder) one was stripped in the ears, and the others were too much money.

and the last stop, another estate sale:

Found these here and there in the garage, except the solder, that was the only item from the house. "Nyoil"? Companion metal sanding block, 12' Aristo tape (Aristo once manufactured high precision artwork cutting (for the semiconductor industry) tables with early "digital" readouts, using Nixe tubes to display the numbers. I was one one of a very few people that knew how to set them up to be level and accurate...), Companion needle nose, Knipex 94-16 pliers, 9 of 14 in a slow twist drill set, 11/16 drill 1/2 shank, 1 lb SN60 solder, and a small box of horseshoe nails, (not shown) - gallon of Mineral Spirits , 4 acid 2 wire brushes:
attachment.php

2 bar clamps, I'm up to three... the one with the odd handle uses the handle to inch the bar closed, then you use the screw to finish...
attachment.php

4 Fine Woodworking books, and another of that caliber.
attachment.php

An aluminum frame B&D workmate. If I ever get a second one of these I'll sell off my two 200's. this one is pristine... It was between the garage and the house (semi attached garage), and I saw it, asked if it was for sale "yes" How much? "$5" DONE!) then saw the pipe clamps below near the front door...
attachment.php

The PO made new vise jaws, and did an excellent job. he also doubled up on the jaw faces, which may have been standard on the earlier original WM's :dunno: but is not on the current styles...
attachment.php

2 pipe clamps, I'm officially past what I can store in my "Pipe clamp rack"
http://www.garagejournal.com/forum. Out the door for everything? $12
:rocker:

I was only able to hit 2 sales today with only one bearing any fruit but it was well worth the wait in my opinion.

It had a ton of Ham radio stuff so my brother wanted to do some shopping for him but i had tools on my brain so he got pushed to the back burner.

Everything was stuck out in the backyard on top of tables and generally a huge mess. A bit of digging turned up a complete Thorsen 1/4" drive set and a really heavy mystery box full of shiny chrome that i only glanced in before i threw it in my huge bag.

What you see are the contents of the small box. Mostly Craftsman and Proto with one powerkraft extension. A Plugmaster flex head ratchet. 8" Stilson pipe wrench. assorted files and punches. The socket in the upper left corner is a tad large and is a 36mm. I don't think it was ever used. The knife was just something sitting on a pile of junk and fits on a K98 German Mauser.

You are my hero. What do you do with all these tools you find every week haha

Mostly keep them for when I need "the right tool", some go to my son.

Lately I've been buying more than I usually do and will post some of them in the classifieds. the ones I keep get added to the inventory list, if I've done that section of my tools, and if not just get put in the appropriate box for that type of tool until I need it. if it needs any attention (de-rusting, cleanup, painted, fixed...) I do that first.

Some are simply upgrades to tools I have, and the old versions either go to my son, or migrate to a secondary box, say for travel. Some will get sold. I'm sort of halfheartedly replacing my Craftsman tools with Proto or Snapon as they appear, but except for sockets, am doing that in sets.

Some I just collect. That is mostly the older stuff, but I have a goal to put together my 54/57 Craftsman tool box stack with only vintage automotive tools, mostly Plomb.

There is a reason I have so many tool boxes... :D

Of the numerous garage sales I hit today, I only bought stuff at one. Also hit two estate sales and picked up some tools at one of those. I think I did all right:
0519.jpg

Old Craftsman and Indestro speeders (though neither is in great shape), a Craftsman Crown torque wrench, small wrenches by SK and Craftsman, large Bonney wrench, pliers by the usual suspects (Cee Tee, Klein, Dunlap, Pexto, Channellock, etc) and some unexpected (Indestro, Proto, Wizard, Berylco-the latter non-sparking beryllium copper, I assume?), a Lufkin tape (I can't pass these up for some reason), 10" adjustables by Crescent and Wizard, 1/2" ratchets by Craftsman (1950s), Snap-On (2 X S71), and SK, a Yankee Handyman screwdriver, a Plomb wood handled screwdriver, 1/2" breaker bars by Craftsman (2 X circle U), New Britain, and an unknown (but nice) 1/4" drive "Chromium Vanadium" breaker. It didn't come particularly cheap, but I feel good about the quality and oddity of the stuff I got.

Some good finds yesterday, congrats. I pretty much missed out on a good one. Didnt venture too far from home but found a 50's creeper that was cool and a 6 ft standing mirror (i know not tools) for 10 bucks that my wife needed and would have cost us much much more if store bought.

The Linesman's in the second row, to the right of the red-handled needlenose and above the red-handled Channellocks, are the Kleins.

Ok, i redeemed myself from yesterdays whiff. Randomly drove around and found a decent lot of tools and two neat old books, a compression tester, an old wire wheel new in orig box, wheels locks with key, bleeders, and two small rulers. Im a math guy so love old rulers. It was really a fishermans heaven but im no fisherman.

Jeff,
Those linesman's are Dunlap. The "Channellock" with the red grips are an unknown brand. The name is printed or etched (as opposed to stamped) onto the tool, and it has been mostly obliterated by patina.
The other "Channellocks" are Channellock, Proto, and Wizard.

Thomas Betts tools are not cheap at all. I found a box of Thomas Betts Ty-Wrap zip tie guns at a sale once. I think there were 7 of them, all but one new in the box. I kept that one and sold the rest for a very nice profit.

Up to that point, i had never heard of that particular company before.

I like their cable ties and insulated terminals but they aren't cheap. They used to make coax connectors and various hardware but sold that line to Belden.

Got this for 20$. The guy wanted 50$ and I would have gave him that if all the original SO bits where there. That's the point I made and told him 'How many people have come here and wanted to actually buy it" He took my 20$. Considering the driver is worth about 75$ I think I did well, very little wear on the driver as well. The 3 flat tips have never been used and I can replace the "Mastercraft" bits with SO ones for about 60$ . Cost for this new is about 280$ CDN.

Picked these up one street over. I've already started the resto on the box. May throw a thread up once it's done. If I understand the date code properly it points to 1979, so it's not all that vintage, but only a couple years younger than I am at least!. Not shown is a heat gun I got for $5 while I was there to peal the stickers off. $10 for the brand new 120 ft fish tape and $10 for the chest (which wasn't even for sale, I saw it in the corner and asked about it)

Not to gum up the thread too much with chit chat but I hate to miss a chance to pimp a picture of my ride :)

It's a 1968-ish Bronco. Tires are 38.5x14.50 Super Swamper TSL SX's. EFI 5.0 HO, C4. etc etc. Not much left of the original Bronco; frame, T-case and dashboard is about it.
