well this year I may have gotten the best christmas gift ever.
my daughter has many tallents some of which include singing, playing music and art.
this year she did a self portarate in charcoal for me. framed it and I never had a clue.
she even signed it so I guess its concidered an original artists signed work.
the picture dosent show the level of detail in the work that was done but I was not just impressed but blown away as this is the best work I have seen her do to date.

Awesome gift! One of my best friends growing up could draw like that. It was amazing how well he could draw, paint, anything really. He drew some interest from a couple of big time outfits like Marvel and Disney when he won a national contest. He ended up wasting his life on drugs (meth) and did 4 1/2 years in federal prison. He got out last year and I heard last week he was back in jail for another felony drug charge. What a waste.

Thank all of your for the kind comments on my daughters artistic talent.
She is a great kid, straight A student and taking honors classes. Has a 4.3 GPA and dosent give me any trouble even with all the **** she has had to deal with for only being 16. Her mother was sick for several years and passed this past June. She would care for and look after her mother after school because it helped me be able to continue to work even with all that was going on.
I am encouraging her talents and sugested that she enter some of her stuff in the local fair.
She has fallen in love with the workings of the brain and has taken to psychology so I believe she has found the professional direction she will go. I want her to keep us with her art as it should give her a hobby/stress relief over the course of her life.

That is a great story rsanter. You should start another thread in FP with some other examples of her artwork. I have to say that looks fantastic and at only 16 it is even more so.

I can just imagine her work as she grows and matures. Her vision and ideas will broaden and become even stronger.

It is very cool to see someone like her in her early stages. Very cool man. Thanks a bunch for sharing.

I received a good start on some shop organizational stuff, mostly for my pile of fasteners (nails, screws). I've got a shelf in one of my cabinets that's filled with those little boxes of fasteners that I buy every time I start a project. They're precariously stacked 4-5 boxes high and 3 rows deep. I have no idea what's on that shelf, particularly in the back. As a result, I end up buying what I already have, and then adding another little box to the pile. So, I got a some Gladiator brand wall mount strips with some accompanying plastic bins, available at Sears or Lowes. Made overseas, of course, but they look pretty sturdy, so I'm going to give them a try. I have to do something, the pile of fasteners just isn't working.

My girl did great for me this year. A cross vise for the drill press, a dewalt 4.5" grinder, some snap on swag, fisher plows beanie, couple gas monkey shirts.

He had amazing talent. He got really into the band Slipknot so at the end of the school year he collected used backpacks and made stage quality reproductions of all 4 or their masks. He made money selling canvas shoes with custom art on them, and he paid his bills moonlighting as a tattoo artist and he was damn good at it. He dropped out of school and entered the Job Corp. after a couple years of learning that making it as an artist in rural WV is kinda tough. One of his instructors at JC noticed his work and sent it to some different places. He was entered in a contest and won $3,500. He got a letter from Disney and Marvel wanting him to send them some samples of characters and an original idea for a new one. Before he finished his portfolio he invested his $3,500 winnings in a meth making operation and the rest is history, criminal history. He burnt down a house, a garage, and every brain cell he had.

I got a few tools, a few clothes, and a few oddball items. SWMBO got me a snowglobe with the FX Matt Brewery in it. That one means a lot to me personally bc Utica NY is an area I have many fond memories of, friends/relatives in, and bc the brewery's sign is sort of a landmark in that area. It will take up residence on my desk at work as inspiration and to give me something to look forward to - Friday night w/a cold Utica Club.

Not an actual Xmas present, but my father has been downsizing his collection and passing things along to the boys and I got offered another small stack of mementos from him. Being about as deep as he could get in the Corvette racing scene from the late 50s through the 70s and owning quite a number of rare cars in that other lifetime, among uber rare parts, service manuals, factory magazines and paperwork, he had a mostly complete collection of Corvette sales literature, rare racing parts catalogs (some not publicly offered), dealer only ordering info (not public), and best of all - "purchase packets" with the personally addressed thank you letter included for several of his past cars starting in 1956 through the early 70s, with a few odd pieces into the 80s. Needless to say, none of this will ever be for sale and will stay in the family as I plan to acquire a few of these cars myself when the opportunity presents itself.

My Wife has been watching me drool over this tool chest combo at Costco for a more than a year...closer to 2...She's told me to "go buy it already!'...but other priorities always win. So this Christmas she and my oldest son surprised me with this set. It's a Homak 42" roller cabinet with a 41" top box and an 18" side locker. it's 60" wide when all together. They are the greatest!!

30/06 180 or 165 grain is plenty for moose. Smallest maybe 7mm Rem Mag. 300 Win Mag will for sure get the job done though. Close range (150yds) and good placement can significantly reduce the need for the big boom sticks. . .

ah ok. thanks for the info

My wife got me the Milwaukee M18 high torque cordless impact wrench kit, Craftsman 23 piece deep impact socket set and a gold cross.

My father got me the Craftsman 4 ton Pro jack ad one of their mechanic's swivel seats.

Overall, I am very fortunate, even more so with my family.

The two new 56 HF roller boxes, out in the garage, were "Her Indoors" gift to me. You really got to love a woman who never fusses about buying the <strike>toys</strike> tools you <strike>want</strike> need. Plus I got 6 pairs of new socks and a huge bag of pistacios ...LOL

This is a a woman who, several years ago, asked for a chainsaw and her very own Makita drill for Christmas. Since this isn't my first rodeo, I covered all the bases and bought her the requested tools, but I also bought her a couple of nice Dior night gowns. The gowns are long gone and, for the most part, forgotten, but she still brags about the chainsaw and drill... and loves to use both, at the least provocation. The old girl is a keeper, for sure.

Girlfriend got me some anti fatigue floor mats. I complained over sore feet after standing in front of the lathe and mill for a few hours a long time ago... And I guess she remembered. :)
