You put that just under a tool girl pinup poster/calendar!

Was thinking the same thing :lol_hitti great minds think alike

Anybody have a model no. 4 this?

Thx 4 lookin'!

Sweet box. I am pretty sure that is a mid 1940's K-55R. That is really cool. Looks dirty, but not rusted out, which is always a plus. Mind if I ask what you gave for it? The fact that the front cover is still intact is pretty impressive. It would look really good repainted IMHO.

I don't have much time on saturday mornings. A prior engagement usually keeps me busy, but I had a chance to stop by a few sales on the way home.

1.) Milwaukee drill, works great --> $1
2.) "119 Walden" 1/2" spinner. Any info on the "Walden co" I couldn't find anything that says USA on it , but it seems well made, I needed a 1/2" speed handle and it was only --> $1. No more 1/2" adapter on the 3/8" speed handle for me.

3.) TI-83 plus Graphics calc, great condition, works great (yes I am a nerd by profession) :lol_hitti --> $1
4.) White German insulated screwdriver --> $0.25
5.) USB to PS2 converter -->$0.10

I gave them a $5 and told them to keep the change. I was too excited about the calculator. :p

Stopped at a few small sales, the last one got me all this:

Craftsman crown top box for 3 bucks
Small sledge, Stanley level, Monkey wrench, Pexto pliers, 1 buck each
Hard to beat 7 bucks!
The toolbox definitely could use a restoration. There is a good amount of rust!

I will get some more pics of the condition and probably make a thread, since I am not sure if it's worth sanding/wire-wheeling/painting, I am no expert!

picked up an old Blackhawk 1/2" Free Wheeling Ratchet for $3. I have never seen one of these before. It is actually pretty cool. Anyone know why the design did not survive?

OK, the grad/B-day party has started, and I have some "me" time... (Kids are all outside)

I DID manage to work up a schedule and make a run this AM (While everyone else slept in as usual...) Ten stops planned I bought at 7 places!

A small start and the third time I hit this place, cents, fifty...

attachment.php

A Block sale got some items for SWMBO: A glass topped trivet, 3 bucks:

attachment.php

A lock box that actually has the keys taped inside:

attachment.php

An Aluminum coffee pot with a GLASS perk top, (haven't seen one with glass in many many years...)

attachment.php

Another non tools item, a brass bell, after clean up and polishing, this one will probably land on the shed just for fun... the last three all a buck each, and all at the same place.

attachment.php

Back to some tools; A Williams and M Co. DOE's both heavy/thick mothers.

attachment.php

More to come (at least two posts...

Hey beerdog the reason why the design didn't last because for one they were expensive to make and two they are not the strongest ratchets and wear out very quickly if not taken care of meaning oiled often and graciously.

I'd been to the next good stop before and they had more tools out. not a lot but some.
A fiver for these, an old (Flathead?) valve spring tool, 4" clamp, 1/2" drill bit, Sm bit for a bit brace, Craftsman #1 PH driver, adn a 1/2 box of Dixon Lumber Crayons.

attachment.php

I asked (Agian) about an old 18 drawer parts bin they had in the garage and after some wrangling with "Mom" (this is mostly the deceased Fathers/husbands stuff...) the went through the drawers and pulled a fre items out and $20 exchanged hands. It's an Equipto, 34" wide and 11-12" deep, a little rough here and there but it will restore fine! EVERY drawer has EQUIPTO embossed on it. I will probably paint it flat olive drab to match another 18 drawer set I have (and the other three sets will eventually follow suit...)

attachment.php

I think the Equipto is probably the best piece today overall.

$7 for this stuff at another stop, (actually my last stop, but I need to take some out of order for pic loading...) 3 BeCu 5 sided wrenches. No Clue what the heck these are for! :pimpflash A NOS ridgid pipe jaw replacement, a new Schrader air fitting, a small brass hammer, and a cool magnetic center punch for centering it on round stock with 2 levels for in situ work.

attachment.php

I almost forgot this load, I left it in the car and remembered it later... Defiance clamp on vise by Stanley, (I think this is vise No. 73...) and a set of hollow torx sockets (One broken), plus a couple of others.

The largest haul came from a "target of opportunity" and was another place I'd been to a couple times before.

I had a double handful of tools and was digging through this box and the guy says "Ten bucks, just take the whole box. heck throw in the stuff you already have I just want it gone."

So I did!

attachment.php

Klein short dykes, & Needlenose,, PowrKraft ratchet wrench, Indestro Refer ratchet wrench, 1-1/2" Cin tool "super Jr." Clamp
attachment.php

Cantilever Slip Joints (My second pair, these are awesome and have a ton of gripping power!), and a Crickit 3/8 Ratchet, my first of this type.

attachment.php

2-1/2" "super Jr." Cincinnati tool Clamp, (I'm liking these clamps not super heavy, but look to be strong) 2" alum clamp, GM bent nose, SO 12" 3/8 drive ext.3 jaw Craftsman gear puller,

attachment.php

Plastic hammers; SO, True Temper, ?? and No name BP,

attachment.php

Miller Air Craft tool Co. band hook, Sears 1/2 socket rack, hooks and a SS cable

attachment.php

Drivers, and hook, CM, wood handled Stanley SKG, others... all us, or German;

attachment.php

There were several oil filter wrenches and whatnot and some junk that will get scrapped, but that's what a recycle bin is for...

1920's brass finish electric fan from the Winchester Store..........not really a tool......but I would have been one if I didn't drop the $5.00 on it at the garage sale this afternoon. Almost didn't go to this one..........but decided to go to just one more.

Outlaw,

The BeCu wrenches are for fire hydrants/fire hoses. The 5 sided box end operates the main valve nut and the other 2 slotted holes are for the female ends on fire hoses. The small brass ****** on the end of the hose slips in while the curve of the wrench forms to it as you apply pressure. I've got lots of those laying around for work and are quite handy

Ask a fireman what those are for.........I think you'll find they fit fire plugs.

BC beat you to it 318!

Thanks BC. If I ever noticed the valve on a hydrant was 5 sided I'd forgotten! Thanks both of you!

I wonder why the BeCu? other than for not rusting? :dunno: Why not SS?

Thanks! The ratchet is a Husky from the 30's, so its made by New Britain. They made the same ratchet for Craftsman. I used it as soon as I got it to break that rototiller down to move it. The guts were dry but it turned freely so I improvised and put a little motor oil in it. It needs a good cleaning, but it's got a good feel to it.

I keep seeing these these Snap-on and old school Craftsman boxes you guys keep finding on the cheap (eg: T4runner). I think I feel...jealousy.

Outlaw, I'm gonna give you a "you ****!" on the $10 cardboard box of love!

Thanks :D It was a lot for just ten bucks.

The Equipto cabinet is loaded with bits of this and that also. I went through and tossed the real trash, and My oldest daughter claimed two items, (a pewter "Napkin ring" of dragons, gryphons and the like) and some other bit that escapes me just now, but there are wrenches, fittings hardware of all types, and that was after the mother went though each drawer and took a few things she wanted to keep (One was a saw set which she simply liked, but had no clue what it was..). I'll try to get pics maybe tomorrow.

I went to some garage sales today that had tools advertised and nothing but clothes!..................
I stopped at a pawn shop I seldom get to and got the following. A Cman tool box, rusty but restorable. A Mac 1/2" slider bar. A 1/2" SK ratchet, two 6" crescents, three 3/8" metric sockets and a 13/16" to 5/16" Cman end wrench set minus the 1/2". Not pictured I also picked up a 50's Cman ratchet and several Cman screwdrivers. All for $10!
A good day!

John

10" Craftsman Table saw, identical to what I grew up with. This unit was in sorry shape, having been stored outside for years. Top deck was very rusty, and the metal side leafs nasty with old paint, scratches, rust starting to show. Miter guage slots full of crud, nothing could slide.

Took about an hour to recondition the deck, redo the leafs, fix the power switch, replace missing bolts, wax the metal top, clean out the slots and put some silicone in them. The miter guage was cleaned up, derusted, now working. Same for the fence. That hour of simple maintenance and repair brought this work horse back from the dead and it works great! It's clean, tight, and works as well as it did in 1982. Or as well as the one I remember using back then.

Price? FREE. Haul it away because it was taking up space in a carport of my father's friend. It's now fully operational, clean, and in MY garage. :)

Non-sparking. Probably in case the fire department showed up to a Natural Gas fire/leak. They could open the hydrant and hook up their hoses without setting off gas fumes. That would make sense to a government agency.

I picked up a few wrenches this weekend. Seven at a little over $1 each.

In the picture from the left are:
P&C 5/8 x 11/16 DBE
P&C 11/16 combo
P&C 5/8 combo
Williams Superrench 7/16 x 1/2 Tappet DOE
Proto 5/8 DOE Angle Wrench
Williams 3/8 Superrench combo
Williams 3/8 x 7/16 DBE

I'm a sucker for the P&C wrenches. They were made about 50 miles from here in Milwaukee, Oregon, and they are of good quality. They were bought out by Plomb/Proto probably before these beauties were made, but these likely were made here in Oregon.

I have P&C combos from 1/2 to 11/16 and a 7/8. I'm on the lookout for the 3/4, 13/16, 15/16, and 1 inch combos to fill out the set. I'd take the smaller sizes below 1/2 if they pass by and are affordable. :D

I have P&C DBE wrenches in 5/8 x 11/16 and 1 x 1-1/8. The DBE don't show up as often as the combo's.
