J Hav, that is a double or triple ****.

Rotory table, a couple of big DP vises and couple of good Machinist vises, a lathe, and a milling attachment for the lathe!

Here you go (autopts). Here's a few large ones. Lousy pictures, cause there too crammed together to get good pictures. Weigh too much to lift out, back too weak, just for pictures. Working on space for them, get better pics then. Had to take pictures for insurance purposes anyway.

#7 is a Charles Parker humpback

.

Recognize the two behind the Parker (autopts).

Hey Larry!
I like your security system. Catalyst has moved 2000 miles East to be near you. That won't give him any ideas. I think the one in the upper right is a No 26 American Scale Combo I think. A beautiful sample of some of your big vises.

Zoom! You've been attacking this thread with a barrage of great photos and comments. We love you for it!

Here's 2 for the journal. I was going to say that the 214R was rare however there is one on Ebay right now. One 214R and the nicest 204R I have ever seen. There is not one hammer mark on either handle ball. Neither belong to me unfortunately. As you can see, Reed made the 214R from the 204R Platform.

NO Autopts, it's a #25 American Scale Combination, 181lbs, and I love every ounce of it. I think you're thinking about your Hollands #26, on page 425---thread #8499. The #25 is on page 426---thread #8516. The #25 has 6'' jaws, swivel base. Thanks Autopts.

No it doesn't have the replaceable jaws :\ but it's in good shape minus the paint. I also got a 3 1/2 ERON, 3 drill vises, and a craftsman X Y rotary table along with the Craftsman 6 x 18 lathe with milling attachment... All for $390. It was a good day

Yep....That deserves a YOU **** for sure  I'd like to have that rotary table

Thanks Nick! I guess when I have my laptop in my shop, I tend to post everything I see and forget I had! LOL!

You keep doing what you do, we all know who the vise "Godfather" is!

I picked up this Rock Island 241 anvil vise last fall. I tried doing some research on it, and found nothing. I haven't found any information on this vise anywhere on the 'net. And I know who the manufacturer is and the number. It's been a little frustrating. Does anybody here have any info on this vintage beauty?

KMScott, you're right - it is missing the retaining pin. That was the only thing that was wrong with it. And that's why I was able to buy it for only $20.00.:) I'll install a new pin in it in a week or so. The anvil on this vise is a solid casting. There's no hollow sections here. The jaws are 4" wide, and I'm guessing the vise weighs in the neighborhood of 70 lbs. It's a brute, and I'd like to find out how old it is if I could. But I can't even locate a listing for it in any of the Rock Island literature that I've been able to find. I was hoping that somebody here may have seen it listed in some of the old Rock Island vise sales brochures.

I'm keeping that bubba... That table cost $100 of the total $390 I spent lol. The guy didn't really know what he had, but he had a feeling the rotary table was worth money. I still made out good I think. So I guess I got the lathe and everything else for $290  he also had a crown top Kennedy tool box there. I ran out of cash at that point, but I'm thinking of going back soon.

I hear ya, some things you just gotta keep!! Next one you find like that, put me down for it ; You better go ****** that crown top up too!!!

Man I wish I went with more cash that day. It was in the middle of nowhere. Those are the best places. When I seen it I tried not to get too excited, but I wanted that more than the lathe actually lol. The lathe is crown top as well if you hadn't noticed. I might try to go back tomorrow. I'll keep you posted on the box.

Rock Island Illinois was and is a big metal forging and machining area. It was big during World War II and they are still making military munitions. I'm not sure exactly which company the vises were made by but I'm sure it was on Rock Island. Perhaps check out the history of Rock Island Arsenal.

Who has the most.... It's either You (Zoomie), Autopts, Catalyze, or that guy that lives in NM.... or maybe bigcaddy?

No idea... But I know DEMOMAN has a really big collection, and I don't think any of them are under 6" jaw... But all those guys have very enviable collections...
And Catalyze gets about 5 vises a day... Lol! Big caddys collection is sick as well.
I bet there's a guy lurking out there that would blow all of our minds! Autopts has sold more vises than I've ever even seen in my life, total! I think gatewaysysops has a stockpile too...

I think it would be interesting to see who has the most vises in their collection (with pictures). You can count me out because I keep seven around that either have specific uses or sentimental value. All the rest get given to family & friends or sold to support my many vices. BTW, some stories about the vises here have been a fantastic read!

And I can't find one Craftsman Model#5197 or 5198...

How do they do it???

It's probably voodoo, or one is related to Harry Potter, or the phase of the Moon, or, or...
