Has anyone successfully purchased a vise on eBay? There are some nice ones on there pretty regularly although for a premium price.

I haven't bid on any large vises because the shipping charges are insane.
Jake, how big are you looking for?

Papa needs another Reed 4C... You don't want to keep it anyhow, it doesn't match all your Wiltons....![]()
So I was thinking... how much you inspired me to get all the REED "C" vises, shoot, I've already got the tough one...
So, it's really all your fault I am going to be on HORDERS....
Thanks a lot!
LOL!
Do they have vises in Austin? I've heard great things about the city, thinking about checking it out...
I am almost "complete" on the Wiltons, should have all the ones I want soon...
I've got all the Morgan Swivels... 180, 160, 150, 145, 140, 135, 130...
Good Prentiss's are too hard to find in good shape (plus I sold my #23 to Phy6)
Parker made WAY TOO MANY different models to even try to collect...
Not a big Columbian fan...

I just missed out on getting a Morgan 170 (7") swivel a couple months ago from a CL seller. I hadn't ever seen one before but the picture showed a 170 on the side of a Morgan. Looks like you are one Morgan short, sorry.

It's time for everyones favorite fun game... "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!!!"
Let's hear it gentlemen... I've got two for you today...
The first one looks very Bulletesque, but there are some major differences...
I have it next to a 9400HD marked 11-46...
No markings whatsoever...
Where did this thing come from?

Maybe it's prototype Wilton bullet #1. I know I like it even more taahn a regular bullet, love that pointy end!
I wonder when they quit making it...?
Did you notice if it was Chicago, Aurora or Milwaukee?
I'm calling my guy at Morgan tomorrow and asking him to cast me a NEW one!
It was the early Chicago. I talked to the guy, he said he's had it for over 50 yrs. I had the CL pic but I was bummed after I was beat to the buy and deleted it.
Here's a Morgan 70 fixed base:

I bet those are harder to find than than Waldo...
Well, I'm on the lookout...
Do you by chance remember what he was asking, just curiosity...
That burns my *** like a 3 foot fire!![]()
The guy was probably 75+ so he was unloading his shop equipment. He wanted $150 for it. It was pretty clean so I was ready to pay his price.
I call it a prototype too, lol... I'll never know...
Heres another similar one, it's a 2-1/2", the only marking on it is Pat. Pend...

I suggest reinforced pad under that pile to prevent foundation failure
#3 is a #71 Simplex.
#4 is a Reed 208R, the R is in the chain shadow.
Recognize the two behind the Parker (autopts).

I've seen some decent vises listed in the Austin, DFW, and east Texas CL... Nothing that makes me want to drive for 6 hours yet though, but better stuff and better prices than here in Houston, that's for sure! Last item I *would* have driven to Dallas for was another GJ member got a Reed 4C for like $200 on an obscure CL listing....
I've been trying to figure out if I could make one big grab up north and hit like 3-4 CL listings at once. Then it would be worth the drive.
I'm still kicking myself in the **** for not buying that nice Starrett 926 that just sold... I kept telling myself, "Wait for one with a swivel base"....
KBC Tools last I checked still has new old stock of the Starrett vises. They had new in the box 926's.

FYI, there is also a Craftsman made by Reed somewhere in the DFW or east Texas area I saw on CL in pretty good shape... They are asking a fair price if you want to keep it, but there isn't any room if you want to resell it... I think I was just searching "vise" and it was a kind of generic listing till I saw the picture...

I got this REED 2C in a deal the other day with a craftsman metal lathe.
No it doesn't have the replaceable jaws :\ but it's in good shape minus the paint. I also got a 3 1/2 ERON, 3 drill vises, and a craftsman X Y rotary table along with the Craftsman 6 x 18 lathe with milling attachment... All for $390. It was a good day![]()

I'll say it... YOU ****!!! LOL...![]()

what's happening with the Craftsman rotary?
