Uploading some photos from my phone.

I'll get on my computer and type up what everything is.

(Now on my computer)
This is from a craigslist ad in this thread, where there are more pics of the grinder.

The lady was cleaning out some of her garage after the passing of her husband. The kids had been through the most everything already. I came away with what was in the craigslist picture which was a beat up black and decker workmate, a skilsaw table saw, a small vice, and the block grinder.

Additionally I was able to get a few more interesting tools that were in a dresser drawer and a floor jack.

Now, I don't have a bd workmate, so if I can straighten this one out it can be useful. So I'll be looking for some help there.

I also only have one vice and do need another.

The table saw on the other hand, I'm not sure what to do with it. I like my rack and pinion dewalt for a small saw.

The green thing here is the tablesaw. It looks to have been repainted green. On the top, roughly left to right, farthest to nearest:
Soft faced hammer
Ball-peen hammer
small machinist vice (?)
small craftsman clamp
manual drill
craftsman case with some hex keys and a feeler gauge inside
some kind of chuck
die holder with die
metric dies
metric taps
crowbar
two larger and three smaller clamps, the larger ones say made in Korea
lead (?) hammer
4 1/2" sears vice
file
collapsable yardstick

More stuff I still need to go through:
Small handsaws
brass drifts
various cutters
various pliers
lever punches
couple tape measures
a stick of wax
block plane
flap wheel and refill abrasive
masonry blades

Total cash $40. Plus mileage, but I was already out so probably added another 30 miles to my trip total.

Tyberius,

Nice scores! what is the issue with the B&D WM?

the small vise is part of a drill press angle vise. its missing the base, two adjustable "struts" the hinge bolt, and the 4 bolts for the struts. still completely useable as is as a DP vise.

Thanks for the info.

The wm has a bent left arm and a bent front lower brace. It still stands and clamps but doesn't fold yet. I've got a oxy torch and a propane torch, so I could easily straighten it. It will also need some cleanup of the surface rust.

yup. I emailed MAC about rebuild kit availability. if one is available ill give it a try. just hope they dont want me to send in the whole thing. no way they will warranty that rusty ratchet and I wont even waste the postage to mail it.

tyberius,
if it's a replaceable part, you might want to check with black annd decker. they carry parts for the workmates. i needed a catch for one of the folding legs, and found it there. (didnt order it from b&d-found the part on ebay with free shipping....)

For me it's worth it. I've got several people who can make keys for most locks I find.
If there's a code stamped on the lock, it's much easier.

Generally no as Jeff said but I would have still picked up the crown top padlock. Keys cost me between $3-10 depending who is working that day and how much trouble they have.

If you have a nice crown top box it would probably be worth it to have a matching crown top padlock to put on it.

Karma is a good thing.Last week I sold a vise to a member here on GJ. he drove a couple + hrs to get here and was also meeting someone else and buying more vises.I had told him if I could help him out in anyway to let me know.So I get a text on Sunday asking if I could pick up a vise near me and hold it until this weekend. Well at that time I was 4 hrs away from home along with a planned overnight stay but GJ member and CL seller agreed to hold until I could get there Tuesday.Tuesday picked up vise also stopped in a local pawn shop and found a Snap On SLX80A 1/2" dr 24'" flex ratchet like another member here on GJ was looking for so after a couple PM's I headed back to the pawnshop ,acquired the ratchet and came home and mailed that off. Here's where the karma begins: GJ member is on his way to pick up new vise from earlier this week, while waiting having coffee I search CL for bargains and find a Masterforce 56" rolling box on CL in Toledo OH for $100!! I email the seller and give my number, seller calls and I explain that I am waiting for one person to pick up before I can drive the 1hr15mins to get there. Seller agrees to hold the box until I get there,I instantly had agreed to the asking price. So while I am at his garage sale I also get a Snap On FHLF80 and a FHL80 pair of ratchets for $60 more!!!
So for $160,2 hrs of driving and gas I got this:

To top it all off I had went to a local Poker Room last night, took 5th place and won $160 playing cards.
I've got a couple beautiful porterhouse steaks to throw on the grill tonight from a friend's butcher shop ,it's a balmy 78 degrees here.I'd say I am having a good weekend!!

Ok long story but to continue my good Karma. Talked a friend of mine/co-worker into meeting me at the estate sale where I purchased all the tools above on Sunday morning 50%off day.I had sent him a link showing the items etc. He made a comment about wanting the file cabinet to help organize the house he had just bought and moved into. We tag the file cabinet sold, move out to the garage and proceed to pick thru the tools, leftover golf clubs, etc. I end up with $4.50(was $9.00) of garage goodies,my buddy gets the file cabinet,a tackle box, some pliers/crimpers,etc,an angle protractor and spies a large watch on the checkout table, big heavy stainless steel half off makes it $100 so he buys it total spent for him was $120. He backs his minivan up the driveway we load the file cabinet and other items in the van and are standing there bs'ing trying to decide to go to breakfast or grab a beer it's 10:45 Sunday morning.
he mentions several times that this estate sale stuff is cool, thanks for invite,I am hooked, etc. He's already thinking the watch would net $250~300 on Ebay as its on sale at Macy's for $479.00
001.jpg
I'm not ready for beer and he's not into breakfast so we split I go to my truck he pulls away. I get to the end of the block and my buddy is waving at me to pull over.I'm thinking he figured a place we could go get beer/coffee /breakfast. I park my truck and he motions for me to get in the van.We look under the file cabinet bottom lip(he had seen it in his rear view mirror) an envelope containing $3140.00 in cash!!!! He counts it out and blurts out I'll split it with you!!!Which I am grateful for, certainly was not expecting that, but who am I to turn that down. We think long and hard and come up with this conclusion we took $500 off the top and went back to the estate sale folks,we have no idea if the family will see the money or not, then count out the $120 he spent at the sale, put that in his pocket and then we split the remainder into $1260 each!!!
Let's just say it was a great Sunday.
Now we discussed it quite awhile,we bought items that a: we plan to use b: items we plan to sell for a profit,no different that the folks on Storage Wars/American Pickers etc. So in our minds what was picked/purchased regardless of the value becomes his property. I mean he/we could have walked away with the whole thing instead gave a portion back.We did not tell the folks how much money we found ,just handed the envelope back.
I don't recall Storage Wars/American Pickers turning around and giving the profit back too often.
We also got a chuckle picturing the estate sale folks ripping open desk, drawers, flipping the couch to find more envelopes and also left to wonder how many envelopes of cash may have already walked out of a 3 day sale:D

Nice pick ups 3baygarage. And as you noted that old Craftsman tool roll is cool. Always nice to have the original roll since it always seems easier to track down the missing tools than the roll itself.

Generally, no.

Which is why the jeffmoss26 instructs me like Yoda on what to buy and why.
LOLZZZZZZZ.

And I only respond because I was quoted, kinda, but not really, in Copilot's post.
(although a blank quote does fit my mood today--LOL)

In the end, I really really wish the lock owners and key collectors held a convention and mated some things back together. Srsly./

I see so much lock BS and overpricing it makes me sick. And all the girls go goo-goo over old padlock and old mortise lock keys. Huh? Why?

But I see it every weekend at every sale.
The jeffmoss26 has taught me well-enuff. But I am yet still a newb.
And I have no desire to collect locks.
None.
Thus why i send them on.

:)

I passed up a great Craftsman crown top brass padlock last weekend because it had no keys and I didn't want to invest $ in a locksmith's time to obtain a replacement key. Maybe I'm missing something here....???

Great Story alinc100! and No I think what you did was completely OK. You bought, they sold. Finis! I used to work at an Upholstery shop, and would often find money in the crack at the back of a couch. usually change, but some times cash, and once a $20 bill...

I picked up a tool box once "as is" full of tools and "junk" and in the corner was a box of rolled coins. Nearly all silver, pre 64. 13 lbs IIR. even at the much lower prices today, its still worth north of $4K...

Yesterday I scored a Jet 10" laser-guided compound miter saw for $50 at a garage sale.

It was the first thing I noticed when I walked in, but hesitated to ask right away, thinking he'd want a couple bills for it. Then I overheard another couple asking about some hand tools, with a reply of "Those are a buck each," and asked after the Jet. Sold for fifty smackers!

I'm pretty sure it was used for one project and then sold. There was a little sawdust in the dust bag.

I got this for $20. I usually see them listed on craigslist for $100-200. It's quite large with smooth rolling drawers, and I have no idea where to put it. I was thinking on the bottom shelf of my workbench, however, it's 1/2" too tall. Ugh!

Onedivinehammer >> I like that. I grew up on the North Shore (Lynn, Saugus, Danvers et al). Just out of curiosity, in what town/city did you find that gem?

Would anyone believe me if I told them I picked up a 6 drawer Stanley Vidmar for $50? Was browsing CL and saw the ad, then the price. 65 obo. Instantly contacted him and offer 50 bucks for it. Sure enough he took it. I thought he just forgot to put an extra zero on the end of his price.

I'll have a picture for you all once I get I get some help to get it unloaded. Heavy is almost an understatement for it.

Ok today's estate sale finds me across town, I get there 45 mins early and I am number 24 on the street. Rickster is there,of course, way in the back at number 11. I get in in the second wave as many of the first were there for die cast/car collectibles. Make my way into the basement and scrounge up these items:

I picked this up at a garage sale last weekend for $50. There were two cabinets, this was in the worst shape of the two. I've wanted one of these for a long time to keep chemicals in, just for safety reasons, but never found one for the right price or in the right condition. The sellers started out at $125 each and came down to $65 for this one when I walked up. I offered $50 and paid her cash. Everyone was happy. There are a few small rust spots and one bigger one, but nothing a little sandpaper and paint can't fix.

...metric dies

metric taps...

Got the taps and dies unpacked. There's were basically a door prize along with a drawer full of other stuff.

neqezu8y.jpg

tynyjete.jpg

So SK taps and dies pretty complete from 3mm to 12mm. I guess he must have broken some dies though.

Now a couple of questions:

4ese2e5e.jpg

usu6a9u5.jpg

What kind of die setup is this? Obviously something pretty stable on the other end.

It says B&Co 1/4 20. It's the only sae in the lot.

4yzydubu.jpg

What's this? Thee is some sort of bearing and circlip inside.

gyhymure.jpg

Looks like it might say "FAFNIR" or "FAFNIA" the BRG NO

it does say Made in USA

I didn't think this was possible. Well, maybe $50 for a spare drawer. Great score. Looking forward to pics.

I still can't believe it myself, after I got it in place I kinda just stood there and stared at it for a moment.

Here's the CL photos.
