I think you did great on those wrenches cause you can't touch them new at that price. That's a harder to find breaker bar that somebody screwed with . Good stuff jakemac, I have a soft spot for Williams.

My soft spot is for Cman =V=.
I was originally going to just buy a cheap chinese wrench to finish the deck. But in the huge piles of **** tools he had, I spotted a Williams. It wasn't the size I needed, so I kept digging. Then I spotted another, and then another. I just couldn't leave such nice wrenches buried in a mound of Chicom junk, so I sucked it up and shelled out the money so they could have a good home.

All my life I've used raised panel wrenches. Smooth ones just don't feel right in my hand. But I was surprised that these large size Williams didn't give me the same feeling. It's still not the same, but not too bad. I think these are keepers. :D

The breaker bar was just sad, someone trashed a perfectly good heritage tool with a grinder. I just don't know what they were thinking.
I couldn't leave it behind. It will sit in my box, unused, but at least it will be appreciated.

Not exactly a yard sale find but rather at my local Salvation Army store. And sometimes I'm initially buying what I've never seen before in my life and hoping its actually interesting and maybe of value. I started digging through their bin of misc tools and kept pulling out these Barcalo wrenches. I ended up with almost a complete set of open end wrenches, just missing the 1/2 - 9/16. I don't think I left it there but will go back to make sure. Each wrench in pic 1 were 99 cents each. A 3 piece Barcalo box end set, a 5/8 Barcalo combination wrench, 5 pieces of a Barcalo open end wrench set. 2 Craftsman =V= wrenches, 1 MAC open end wrench, 1 Williams Super Wrench, 1 Stanley 100 Plus screwdriver like new and 1 Craftsman screwdriver, well used but still serviceable. Also a strange little Stillson pipe wrench with a bend in the handle. Still trying to figure out if that's from abuse or not. It almost looks as if it was made that way.

Started doing some research on Barcalo, same company of Barcalounger fame. It will be interesting to learn about their tools made many years ago.

Other items from the SA store were two plastic small parts bins, 99 cents each and a Simonsen small tool box in like new condition for $4.99. I needed something to carry all the wrenches around the store anyway.

Yesterday I found a full set of fractional drill bits for $30 at a garage sale. Made in USA

I've been on the hunt for a good set of bits for a while now.

$65 worth of YOU **** let me know if you want to trade off those 4 clamps, top center of table. Any brand name on the box, it has really cool Gerstner style pulls.

They are yours if you want them. I gotta figure out what to trade for though.
No mfg name I can find but the drawers have 386or 368 written on the back in pencil.

BTW the clamps are Brown & Sharpe. :)

Alinc, YOU ****!!!!! Nice box. I really like the drawer pulls.

rmalkow2, if the Stillson handle was bent by abuse, the bend will start where the lower strap of the head wraps around it. Most bend in the I-beam below that point, if abused. There is a factory bend above that point that makes a rocking action that increases the grip of the jaws.

Livewire, What pray tell is it? It appears to be a type of spot elder. ?????

Not a spot welder. It is a Victor motorized cutting torch.
The hoses hook to it like normal, but it has a cord for the 110 motor on it that drives the wheel. It works, but the wheel turns slow.
Guess you could call it a lazy man's torch. Lol.

yeah, at 40 clams for a 50s/60s craftsman/atlas tabletop lathe you would ****...if it works fine and doesn't cost hundreds to make it functional/useful. that is often the case.
the stars may align. the clouds may open up and a beam of light shine down and a band of angles start singing......
I do hope you get it, but....
you know that talking about any deal that aint in yer hands/truck yet is jinxing yourself:evil:

It is a Craftsman from the late '40's, but not an Atlas! It was a cheaper version much lighter built, but with V-type ways. Plain bearing for the spindle, and Morse #0 for the tailstock taper. It was built by a different vendor.

Still a nice score. Well into the "YOU ****" range!

Got these along with a few other items the other day. Not much markings on them.
From the bottom up 18"-dropped forged steel.
14"-MFD 1814 U.S.A. P&C
14"-Made in Spain Quaranteed
10"-No markings on this one.
6"- Stillson Wallworth MFG CO. Boston,USA.

Can anyone tell me how old they are or any other info on them?
Do I leave them as-is or clean them up? Thanks for any help. Brad

Live,
Judging from the shape of the handles and the amount of rust, I would guess they are all from the 1908-1940s vintage. If you want to clean them up, I would lightly go over them with a hand-held wire brush to get any heavy scale off of them. Then get yourself a large tub they will fit in and a couple gallons of Evaporust, and let them soak for a couple days at least. Then wash them off with warm water and a Dobie pad (bathroom cleaning department at a big box store), dry them off and spray em with WD40 and then take pix so we can see your awesome cleanup job on here!!
Cheers,
JimDon
PS, once cleaned and lubed, they'll last ya another hundred years.

No time for garage sales yet this week but I did stop again at my local Salvation Army store and my local Habitat Resale Store.

Pic 1: A very nice "American" brand 48" level for $5.99 at the SA store (And I got the Seasoned Citizen off of that!). I was sad to see someone had parted with this tool. And I had to rescue it as I can already picture the wood fame cleaned and stained and the brass edges polished. It has all its bubbles intact and was not cracked or warped. Just well used and a lot of paint, drywall splatter to clean off.
level 1.jpglevel 2.jpg
Pic 2: A few smalls from the Habitat store. A like new Sears small tool box which is already in service storing all lag bolts, eye hooks and similar. I love storing my misc parts in these real steel boxes. Also picked out a few hand tools. A no name but pretty old open end wrench. An Indestro open end wrench and a usable Companion 1/4 drive handle. Tool box was $2 and the hand tools 50 cents each.

You can wire wheel them and oil them and you are good to go. You can take the wooden handle off and repaint as needed. I ran out of black paint - can you tell?

I have not had a chance to clean up the little Ridgid - I got it last week and I've been busy.

Cheers

Jim

Yup, it's a 109 and 6 X 12 if I'm seeing it right; Double A Products Co - In 1957 they became a division of Brown & Sharpe Manufacturing Co. Great little TINY lathe,

Beatcad I am 100% certain it is a Union chest.I am not sure of the model number but after a little Googling and and some decal work from my printer it is branded Union Tool Chest Works Rochester ,NY.
The decal is very transparent and would have stood out much better if the drawer front was raw and then finished ,but, I thought the faded /washed out look was appropriate for being 60-70 years old.

I'm not familiar with anything in the city itself (doesn't mean there isn't one, just that I'm not aware of one). Outside the city there is an indoor/outdoor flea Sat/Sun in Lynn with a mix of vendors, some of which have tools (mostly junk, but a few gems can be found). Lynnway Tools is a used tool store that carries truck brand handtools, but is closed on sunday so he can sell chaff at the Lynn Flea. Revere (nearby) has a small flea on sunday just off of Rt1 behind the movie theater, but it's mostly new Chinese knockoffs and yard sale items (don't bother).

For antiques you can go 30/40 min north of Boston up Rt1 to Todd's Farm (on Rt-1A), Open on Sunday only, with up to 300 tables of antiques, mantiques, and general merch (no import knockoffs allowed). It can be hit or miss on tools depending on what you're looking for. I've seen Craftsman, Plvmb, Proto, Indestro, Snap-On, Mac, Utica, and others. As well as lots of trash brands, but it's spotty depending on which vendors show up. It's worth the trip just for the walk-around, but get there early, vendors start packing up by 11am.

If you want to travel into SoNH. There is an indoor/outdoor flea in Salem, NH on Sat/Sun, but I don't care for it much. It's mostly newer import ****. Up in Londonderry, NH there is a larger flea, but good tools can be scarce the few times I've gone. Both charge an admission fee.

fiv216 & Jacob, on the Yankee type drivers, put a couple of drops of motor oil on the spirals and another drop in the gap for the spinning grip on the chuck, and you will be surprised how well that push driver works!

I don't really need another 1/4 & 3/8 ratchet combo set with shallow sae sockets, yet somehow this Tru-Test followed me home. Truth be told I like the box and ratchet more than anything else. I have some Plvmb goodies so I figured it was a Plvmb or Proto-based ratchet because of the "MFD" and from what this place seems to say agrees with my suspicion.

Only some of the sockets have detents, including a couple smaller 3/8, but all the bits are there....a few of the sockets have been used but the ratchet looks more heavily used than the rest. It works but needs cleaned. Most of it is unused.

Good luck Outlaw and others! I slept in this morning since there was only one sale listed across town. We just had to pick up some trimmer line from Sears so we dropped by the sale on the way, "mechanic tools sold this morning"... wouldn't you know.

I did score a free wooden privacy fence that someone tore down so we have a fence for behind the shop now! :willy_nil
