I dunno if anybody gives a rip or wants to look at another thread converting tubing and plate into benches...but I started a project to replace my existing config with 2 new benches and 3 stands. I think this will take about a month to finish, but I got a good start. About 4 hrs Friday and 6 Today

Bench 1- Fab Bench- 30x60 Plus a 30x12 FabWing on the end. 3/4 Plate. 2x5 800 lb poly over steel plate type casters.

Bench 2- General Bench- 30x48 with 3/8 plate. 2x5 800 lb poly over steel plate type casters.

Stand 1- Combo Belt/Disc and Swag Portaband on 4 inch Colson 1/2-13 stem casters. (Same for all stands.)

Stand 2- For the ol' Rockwell Grinder

Stand 3- For my ESAB plasma. Leaving top open for possible future ESAB Rebel

Picked Up Approx 1200lb of steel. It was all pretty slippery, so I have er strapped and chained to the deck pretty tightly. PA roads are not too smooth.

Got the big plate flipped on the chain hoist and in place, there is about 1/8 bow over the 60 dimension, I placed it high center up, hoping to pull some of it back down on assembly with stress and heat. Started cutting out all the 3/16 plate for caster, mounting the power tools etc.

Cut all the tube today, finished up the plates. In order Stands-Fab Bench-Gen Bench.

Next weekend I hope to get all the drilling done ( FabWing Bolt Holes, Caster Plates, Stem caster holes, Vise Holes, Power Tool Plates, Double Shear Mounts for the top/frame interface). I am waiting on one last shipment with tabs and gussets-cheaper to hire that out. Should show up about Tuesday.

I'll be watching this one as well. I do a lot more woodworking than metal work but I do stick metal together on occasion.

Got more done than I expected, not as much as I hoped.

I'm pretty sure I drilled 100 holes. I got to use my rotabroach on the tubing and Norseman Hole Hogs on some of the plate.

Here's my buddy pointing out the "laser beam" on my DP- he's a character. Drilling caster plates.

Fab Wing holes in the end of the bench tubing.

Getting the grinder stand welded up. Used a Bessey 90 degree jig, it was handy.

Using my 12 inch Fab Wing to set up the plasma stand deck.

Got all 3 stands welded up and some paint on the bottoms. Hopefully I can paint and assemble the stands this week and start in to welding up the benches next weekend.

Came up with some unexpected free time today. Was able to get the stands painted and assembled.

I'm gonna wait until the enamel cures fully so I don't glue my plasma and it's cables fast to the stand.

Gotta blast off to WI for a few days. Moving on to the benches when I return.

So....been chipping away at the main fab bench. Hopefully wrap this project up in a few days.

Putting together the tab and slot fabwing.

Getting the wing oriented flush.

Working on the framework. And getting the top mounted. I was able to pull it down within a 1/16 of relatively flat. That's about all I can ask for.

Buttoning up the receiver and gussets.

Shot some paint to the bottoms. Mounted the wheels. Hopefully tomorrow I can finish the paint and mount the wing.

Nice designs, fabrication execution. Although I'm not sure I would have been fabing in those shoes! I also enjoyed your fist picture

Your fabwing looks very handy, and it looks like your building a second one so you must use/like it. I'm familiar with a "strong hand" table and would love a small one so I really like what you designed. Care to share more on the design and how your utilizing them?

What are the keyhole openings for? It doesn't look like you have a hole in the table to leave a socket head bolt loosely mounted on for easy installation.
Do you plan on mounting vertical on the table?

Haha The shoes are my pops, he stopped in and I put him to work on some layout.

The fabwings are from certiflat welding table kits. It's a fixturing system similar to stronghands 1/4 thick lightweight system. He originally designed them to extend his product called a fabblock. I just adapted them for my use. Trying to mix the best of both worlds. It uses the standard 5/8 accessories.

Looking good! Where are you sourcing your casters from for the tables? All 4 of them locking?

The 2x5 800lb units under the tables have a wheel lock, but not a total lock that also locks the swivel. These were named superior brand, but they are Chinese, so I suspect they are all the same. I got em off ebay.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Not much to say for today. I gave the same treatment to the small table today. I was happy to see that my measurements were correct and the 2 tables had the same finished height, despite the tops being different. I wanted to be able to use them to support long stock, as well as c-clamp them together should I need an extended surface.

Wed and Thursday I plan to finish the paint, final assemble and take a few higher quality pics for you guys.

The only thing I wasn't sure about the whole project was using tabs to attach the tops. The 3/8 plate I knew I could create enough of a puddle to make a decent weld. The 3/4 is another story, no cracking after cooling- but time will tell if they pop from lack of fusion.

Finished. Struggled getting good pics. Worn out for today.

Today I sanded the tops with 80 grit on a DA and waxed em with Johnsons. Finshed paint, drilled for vise and mounted everything for the last time.

I'm wanting to build a small press and acquire a large disc sander, so those will be my next projects.

Tables came out really nice. In one of your shop photos I noticed what appears to be a 2" stationary belt sander. I have been wanting a similar unit, but they don't seem to be very common. Can you tell me the brand and source. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Its a Dayton from Zoro tools. Its a belt sander not a belt grinder, so its underpowered, but its handy. Get it cheap from Zoro when they run a 20 or 30% off sale.

Made a visit to a scrapper last week for some tubing and just got back from HF with a bottle jack. So it looks like tomorrow will be day 1 of building a 12 ton press !

I've used some presses, but never owned one, so kinda excited.:)
