Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

68: I think there are Plvmb catalog pages with pictures earlier in the thread where you might find pictures and a listing for our 1 inch Plvmb ratchets.

nice set you posted. do you have 1 inch sockets or a 3/4 inch adapter and 3/4 inch sockets? no idea on the USN stampings, but good question so maybe somebody else will have the answer for you and I and maybe a few others that don't know.

what part of Washington do you hang your hat? you and Filson should stop in at the PNW thread I started in Free Parking where we have several members in Washington, Oregon and a few from Idaho, Montana and Canada and a few good members wanting to move to the PNW that are living out of the country now.

Filson: thanks for the catalog page

Farmer: nice stuff and if you can take and post up some pictures of your socket set too please do.

thanks guys

Sorry for the delay. Busy end to the race season here. Everything in front of the rack is "extras", some from my most recent buy, some I had already. There is an oddball 21/32 or something like that in the rack too.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Drives, thanks! I am pretty sure that I had seen some of the catalogs on here before, but I don't remember seeing any of those "USN" part #s like in Filson's post.

I do have some misc. 1" sockets, and in addition to the 3/4" Proto set that I posted, I also have about 3 other 3/4" sets of other brands (some complete, some mixed). I really have no need for all of these LARGE sets, and should probably thin the herd one of these days. For some odd reason, I seem to keep adding tools but never get around to parting with any :lol_hitti

I am actually subscribed to your PNW thread, I hadn't been on in awhile and noticed that it has really blown up! I am up north of Everett, originally from Lynnwood. I am sure I will have something to post there one of these days!

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

All, that cat page is dated August, 1948, at which point they were retooling the plant for the dual marked Plomb/Proto. Still haven't seen PLOMB metric or even Plomb/Proto dual marked metric, but there certainly could be some floating around.

As far as the WF-8, to me it looks like someone welded a new drive plug on there. Don't I see welds at the base or is it simply too early?

Nice!! The elusive Bog-made WF-38. Sweet score. That little rat isn't stamped War Finish on the head is it?

I saw that one. The one I am referring to was a complete SAE comination wrench set all the way from 5/16 to 1 1/16. It looked like just two wrenches were mismatched from the rest. I owned it for a second! Then got outbid @ $66 :(

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

so.... since I know absolutely zero about PLOMB, is this guy sniffing the wrong brand of glue this week, or is this an "in the ballpark" asking price for these wrenches:

PLOMB 18-pc SAE double-end box wrench assortment
(see ad text for content)
well used.
$175.00 + $12.75 shipping "buy now"
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plomb-Box-E...392833?hash=item5d629caa01:g:oREAAOSwwpdW4gHY

works out to $10.43 per unit. just curious as to what opinions are on actual market value on that one.

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

Personally, I think it wouldn't be too bad if they were in better shape. Given their condition, I personally wouldn't pay that but my bet is that someone will...........

Re: ~ Plomb tool picture thread - show your stuff!

I was sorting through my socket drawers last night and came across something I didn't even know I had - a Plomb 1/2" to 3/4" drive adapter. It has my initials engraved on it, so I know I've had it a long time (something I stopped doing ~15 years ago).

My version does not have the cantilever tray. A friend picked it from a scrap yard about 40 years ago. I used it for a road box for several years and it was almost completely devoid of finish and surface rusted. I sanded out the rust and shot it with a rattle can to preserve it.

If it's not as advertised, I would do the following:

First, double check the auction description. I have missed little details in the past and after double checking, had to swallow my pride.

Second, if the description makes no mention of the welded and ground-on tools, take pictures of the bad tools and send a message to the seller. Explain the issues in detail then give the seller a couple of options. Option 1) take the lot back and issue a full refund. Option 2) ask for a discount on the lot based on the bad tools. My experience has been that the majority of sellers will accept option two and give you a discount instead of having to hassle with a return and relisting.

Best of luck!

DO NOT PAINT OR CLEAR COAT THIS!! All you need to do is degrease it/ gently clean it and then use some car wax to put a layer of rust protection on the box. That box is really nice and will not require much.

Wow. When starting this thread did not suspect it would remain so active . Good to see so much Plomb/Proto appreciation.

Thanks for sharing your finds.

Nothing new to report here. Except near daily usage in the garage. There is a certain satisfaction knowing that I am
wrenching with the same tools my father used on his hot rod back in the 50s, and that my grandfather used in his
service station before that. Great feel to these. They do not make tools like this anymore.

It's a great thread. I check it all the time. Here are a couple of Plomb screwdrivers I picked up at a tool sale yesterday.
