Can anyone make out the HP of the grinder in pics #53 &55? my eyes are not that good and the pictures ****. I plan on hitting the sale and hoping its at least a 1/2 HP. Pictures are prob to bad for positive ID.
Thanks

https://www.estatesales.net/NJ/Totowa/07512/1143900
The best I can venture is it is a pre-Block.

Probably a 1/4-HP, due to apparent lack of side covers and thickness of the stones.

I'm really guessing, because the badge/label format is different than the three 1/4-HP m-115.xxxx and three 1/3-HP m-115.xxxx grinders I've seen.

I do think it is like the following Canadian Sears grinders, that I've seen on the infernal-wwweb.

CM BLOCK GRINDER BADGES

Anyone who has been following my Machine Name Plate Tag Reproduction: thread(http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=323165), well all five 397.19580 INDUSTRIAL RATED badges have sold and mostly shipped. S4cruiser just took delivery of the first so bug him to post the results. With that said this week I'll be ordering two additional badge models requested here by others.

First is model 397.19580 non INDUSTRIAL RATED. I will have six made, however three are already sold. The finish on these will be as the INDUSTRIAL RATED ones, "shear matte/satin" with the brush aluminum showing through.

Second is the gold background version, model 397.19670. These will be in a gloss finish to shine up the gold background. No exposed aluminum on this one. Two out of the six are already sold.

In the near future I'll be reproducing model 397.19410 with the ON/OFF/BRAKE at bottom. Anyhow thanks for viewing and interest-David

Asking $12 each (includes 4 aluminum solid rivets) plus flat rate for any amount USPS First Class $2.60 with Tracking Number.

SPECS:
- .045 thick aluminum with brush finish. Same finish as original badges however thicker, clear background will show through as original
- 2-5/8" x 3-5/32" x .045"
- 1/8" mounting holes. Will need to be slightly enlarge to line up with CM grinder center steel band
- Image is infused into the aluminum and can be cleaned with household glass cleaner
- Four (4) aluminum solid rivets included

You can PM contact info (name & address). Personal check or Paypal.

Depending on interest here, I may/can make more lots available. Also looking for any request in lots to make available.
Great work David!

I'm in for the 1/3-HP m-397.19410 with E Brake. 4-labels please.

The art board is the starting backdrop, correct? If so, I did indeed make it exactly the same dimensions as the label as that is how I kept everything else to the right proportions. Also set the quality to max. So maybe it was just me thinking the results changed for the jpg. Think I found place online and took a chance as they had no min. Not the cheapest, but we shall see how they turn out. I used a png version as they not would accept the illustrator file.

Yes, the "backdrop" is called the Artboard in Illustrator. If as you stated you have your settings as stated, your jpg and any prints should have no quality loss. My source doesn't accept AI files either, jpg, ping ant TIFF only. I asked. Anyhow, good luck with your found online source. Would love to see your result.

I will definitely post the labels when they arrive in a couple weeks.

If anyone is interested in a label file from this vintage, just let me know as I have another 3 weeks on the AI trial and I can easily modify my template for other s/n's and model variants. Right now I have a 3/4hp-397.19350 and 1/2hp-397.19340 files created, and they can be saved in png, jpg, or pdf formats.

OK. I got the material to make the tool rests. I had to order an odd size end mill for the slots. So I'll be starting on this sometime next week.

I assume you could just use the main tool rest on the smaller grinders. Might be over kill since they will be 1/4" thick. But I guess something is better than nothing. :dunno:

I'm also going to make a few spark arrestors. This will be thicker than the originals also.

So let me know if there's anyone else interested. Thanks.

The first pic below is what they will look like. It's not my pic. This is what the guy over on owwm.org had made.

The last pic shows what an OEM heavy duty looks like on my small 1/2hp grinder/sander combo.

Is there any way to save it as all three. :dunno:

JPG is probably the most widely accepted. PM your email and I will send it as I already modified the file. Here's what it will look like

Hope it's ok to put this here. I'm not selling it for profit. Just thought one of you guys might want to use it.

So anyway. I bought this really cool metal shade that I thought would fit inside the factory plastic shade. Well it won't. It's too big.

But you could use it by itself. It does not clamp on like the original. It just slides on. It's really tight, but it would work just fine with a little finese.

I would use it myself but I'm wanting something for a grinder I'm going to be selling. So I don't want to sell one with something that's not original.

I paid $20 for it. So if anyone can use it, I'll take $20 plus shipping. But let me know ASAP . I all ready started a return on ebay before I thought about one of you guys being able to use it.

ALL: you've heard of a member of our Block thread that flies into a town on business and grabs a block and then flies out with it on the plane home? well I met him in person a couple nights ago because he didn't want to pay to ship the stand. he posted an add on Craigs and I was giving it my more than daily search for the 3/4 or 1HP block and his ad sounds like I need to meet this person.

we meet halfway (Thanks again BTW) at a gas station just off the main highway and had a nice chat and I almost forgot to pay him. did I NEED another stand probably not, but it was a great way to meet another fine member of this thread and of GJ.

Did I mention I LOVE GJ?? Well it goes without saying because I do and the block heads might be one of my favorite threads and group of guys.

HAPPY EASTER

cheers

1/3 hp. 397. Bought for 70 bucks. Its funny, i have a newer model craftsman 1/3hp as well and the block blows it away. No comparison.

Drives - It was good to meet up with you the other night. I was short on time and wasn't able to get the stand packed up and shipped. A good part about my job is the travel. A bad part about my job is also the travel.

I will hit you up the next time I am in Seattle to talk you out of a vise.

OK. The extra heavy duty tool rests are done. I think they turned out very well. ;)

I made a major mistake by not letting my friend make these on the CNC machine. No. I wanted to do it myself on a manual mill. Big mistake,,,lol. I have a massive amount of hours in these. And his machine doesn't have a power feed. So all hand cranking on an old machine that was hard to turn. My arms are killing me,,,lol.

They are covered in machine oil to keep the machined surfaces from rusting. You will need to clean to paint if you wish.

First 3 pics are compared to original heavy duty's. But these are extra heavy duty. All made from 1/4" stock.

So anyway. If anyone wants any, let me know. I might have an extra set.

Looks like somebody is going to get a nice one. Here's a pic of block in what looks like an original, unopened box. Pic is from an upcoming estate sale outside my area.

PUP: nice work on the badges that is for certain. also the 1/3 block you restored is high up on the list of GRINDER **** and maybe the nicest 1/3 HP we've seen. BETTER THAN NEW in my opinion.

WELL DONE
