Lots of good finds by everyone!!!

Pic 1 is a light for a machine tool. Light works, as does the on/off switch, but the culprit was the outlet plug, which I've disconnected for now.

Pic 2--Some smalls, Back Row L-R
Three boxes of screws. Couple of Kerr Vintage dental hand mixing bowls and a Buffalo Dental Stone Mixer Bowl. Front Row L-4. Couple of Channel Lock #420 pliers. Couple of Stanley line levels. Stanley #95 Carpenter door **** gauge. Starrett #87 plumb bob. Stanley #60 chisel.

Pic 3 & 4--Starrett #190A Little Giant Jack Screw with pair of extension bases.

Pic 5-7--Lantz Mfg Co Valparaiso Indiana "original flexible grapple hay fork or hay carrier

I don't know what's more exhausting . Hitting 30 sales(my usual pace) or having one of your own... brought in $590 in 6 hours and still managed to hit a small flea for $ 2.00 I picked an 8" Jamestown crescent , 6" Proto professional adjustable and a real nice 3" USA bench clamp vise .It's Miller time for the rest of the night

Wow, lots of great scores going on!

JP - I jasut know Jeff is  over that! what size is it? Looks like an ignition wrench

Jeff hasn't noticed it I guess. He can have it if he wants it. There is no size on it. It measures out to be a 3/8". Neat little wrench.

I'm happy with today's haul. I spent WAY over my average total.

10 planned stops I didn't do any TOOs that were not in sight stops. One "Stop" was a Block sale (a pair of them side-by-side actually) that didn't materialize, but two planned estates and one HS flea market solved all!

This will take I think three posts:

I opened up with this. It was a nice Yard sale with lots of stuff, all priced Eprey levels or more "It's collectible!" :wtf: - Dude wrong marketplace!

So for $2 I got this briquette starter - Smaller than the usual starters so this is specifically for my camp setup.

attachment.php

Another YS had this tire stem too for .25c

attachment.php

The first estate sale where both my daughter and I got some good stuff, despite it being day three:

Most of mine were from the garage, The Aluminum Tray, (either camping or parts sorting in the Garage... :headscrat Utica needle nose, Tru Fit and Indestro DBEs, an old USA made SAE/MM marked wrench, APEX stubby driver the awl handle is Crescent Tool with an APEX driver holder braised on, A Proto driver and a tint wood handled driver (I have a few of these style now...) and a Chevrolet valve seat cutter for 1913-34 in the box! cutter looks NOS, the box is decent but has Garage stains...

attachment.php

Also included was this Lead Ladle:

attachment.php

And my daughters's Glass Jewelry box:

attachment.php

attachment.php

and some Brass Bells on a light rope for SWMBO

attachment.php

All told at the Estate? $8!

More to come!

Another YS had two wrought iron Pot holders for Std Clay pots: $1 each

attachment.php

And yet another YS had the Leather US Signal Corp tool holder. I have another one of these but it's damageed. this one is in great shape!

The rest was Flea Market finds: All but the SO ratcheting wrench was 10c each, so a buck. I was waned the laser level in the case didn't work.., It worked fine when I tested it at home! THe SO wrench was $2, adn is my second so between the two I have 7/16 to 5/8 covered. practically a set as those are certainly the most common sizes!

attachment.php

And some large pots for SWMBO, from the Flea. The three of them set me back $25.

attachment.php

And the first item I picked up at the second (day one) estate sale, and I was there for the opening if not the first in line, (everyone was let in at once maybe 20 people):

A Tool box pretty ordinary looking.

attachment.php

And usually would not have interested me, but I always open these and:

attachment.php

Its all aluminum construction, clearly shop made, and in general, top grade work!

attachment.php

attachment.php

I liked it!:bounce:

More and the best to come! :D

Congrats to everyone, looks like it is a great weekend.

My weekend started on Thursday with a yard sale. Picked up a Cornwell spinner and a wrench jaw.

04ae69d9bc3cf453a15dea424e5bc000.jpg

It was all down hill from there, nearby town had a town wide yard sale. It was a lot of walking and a near waste of 2 hours. Only ended up with this. Bunch of USA sockets and rigid basin wrench.

81a14c42b6c510cda8cff755c9a1d5ec.jpg

Auction yielded nothing worth taking pictures of, but my lady bought a cake stand, so it was not a total waste.

I also spotted a craftsman toolbox on CL that I really wanted. Saw the ad on Thursday morning, but by the time I got home from work that night it was gone.

RP - USUCK on the Huot!

And the Estate sale continued:

BTW, they had $10 on the box in the prior post..

I saw this as soon as I walked into the shop (Half covered with an extension cord coil): A 3-1/2" Wilton Shop king, still bolted down, and WITH the Hardie cutter! Asking $25...

attachment.php

attachment.php

I found the three fishing weight molds in a drawer; Old masking tap price tags at $5 each :dunno: probably what the PO paid?:

attachment.php

And not one but two choppers! the small one is a Stiletto with clearly an ill fitting replacement handle, and the double bit is a Marbles No. 15 camp axe, with what appears to be the original 24" handle, AND elsewhere was the leather cover with the Snaps also Marked Marbles! :rocker:

No prices marked on these.

attachment.php

All told when I paid for everything from the box to the axes? An even $50, which I happily paid without even trying to negotiate! :bounce::3gears:

Hit one sale today it was advertised as a hoarder sale and it certainly was.I got there an hour after opening, waited another 45 mins in line to get in,all the while watching others pile up some decent stuff. Finally got in after nearly getting into an argument with the guy running the sale.He was doing a piss poor job of cash transactions and kept saying"let me check out one more person and I'll let you in" He did that for three sales while I watched.I finally asked him what he believes "one more" to mean. They had the cashier stand in the driveway and wasn't interfering which my ability to shop.As soon as I got in and started shopping I swear he let the 30 people in line behind me in 5 minutes later:mad:
Anyhow enough whining and on to the haul,I picked up all this for $60.

Outlawmws,

Nice shop made box. Looks like it was orginally from Martin Aircraft ? along with its aluminum construction it would make sense. Looks like you also picked up a little bit of history with that box.

You guys have made some great finds.

Well I was able to hit the first two days of the U.S. 25 yard sale that stretched from north KY south to Clinton TN, with a branch from Corbin KY through TN and into NC.
We rode from Mt. Veron KY all the way south to Clinton.

If I see anymore clothes, baby and kid stuff or general housewares, I'm going to......... Keep on going till I hit some with tools. We covered that in a little over a day, very sparse sales, nothing really great as far as tools went.
I put about a months worth of use on my wife's truck door.

The best part I got to spend time with my wife meandering the back roads.

Picked up a Diamond 10" that I need to almost fill out my collection, it has the " no hammering" on it, a SK 1-1/2" combo, vice grips, CM drill Chuck, and a wide tape dispenser.

Hit a community yard sale in an upscale neighborhood today. Drove past at least 30 or 40 sales that I didn't even bother stopping at (why does everyone think someone wants to buy their ****** old clothes?) Ended up stopped at 4 or 5, with a couple good scores. The wife got a couple houseplants, and I picked up an Olympia pipe wrench for $5 (might have overpaid, but everyone needs a pipe wrench...) got a package deal on the Lincoln welding hood (USA made), Ryobi belt sander, and Pittsburgh mill vise for $18, and at my last stop I picked up an old Heathkit tube o-scope for $5. Already got a chance to try out the mill vise this afternoon helping a buddy of mine build some seat brackets for his Camaro.

Thanks, I'm seeing the "L' before Martin, so possibly Lockheed Martin? That doesn't seem to jib with what I assume is the age of this though...

CK, "little rock hammer stamped "C Jacobsen 1936";"

That's not a Rock hammer; it's a sheet metal hammer commonly used by sheet metal workers. I'm guessing that is the owners name and the year he stamped it? :dunno:

Because priced right they do sell a lot of clothes at yard sales. Many poor (or not so poor) families do a large part of clothing their families this way and from thrift stores. I used to go to thrifts quite often looking for old stereo gear (til the well ran dry...), and you wouldn't believe all the expensive cars parked there and the drivers (mostly women, but not all) shopping there.

I've bought clothes at both, but usually its like Camos, rain gear, old army jackets, and the like.

Thanks john, I was dumbfounded when I saw the markings for the Marbles, which to be honest was after I got it home and under a glass. I saw it was marked with something, and liked its shape, and that was enough at the sale! (Poorly lit shop..)

Good point, I do typically buy a good portion of my clothes at thrift stores (as well as old stereo gear when I can find it.) Ironically, my daily driver is also a Mercedes (although it's ten years old and I paid well under market value for it.) I just never understood with yard sales, since on the odd chance that I do spot something that I like, it's never the right size. Thrift stores usually at least have something that fits.

Here's a link to a similar Fleet set that was posted here back in 2012. The ratchet appears to be of the same make. I would think that the Penens marked stuff would predate the Challenger and Fleet versions. :dunno:

Thanks, UNAIU. Based on that, the construction, the /32nds socket, and the date codes on the DOEs, I am thinking early 1950's.

Funny thing is, yesterday I went back to the same flea market and found a 1//4-inch drive PENENS set, the missing 9/16 socket, and another DOE (3/8 x 7/16) at the same table in the house close-outs area. The guy had emptied out more of his truck and they were in different boxes!

20160604_112035_zps4ohm9odp.jpg

I love the handle on the spinner. The screwdriver is an Upson Brothers with a HOLD-E-ZEE. The midget ratchet is a Craftsman V. I will be looking for the correct PENENS ratchet and maybe some extensions.

Also picked up this K-D No. 700 Valve Spring Lifter. Clark-Feathers had an early patent, and that was the design Blue-Point, Wilde and others used, either licensed or made for them. K-D owned its own patent, 2064264, granted to Harry Kulp (of Kulp and Dellinger) in December 1936.

Accentuating that find was its functional mate, the K-D No. 605 Valve Keeper Inserter, in its original box, patented (1850268) in 1932.

Some small finds at a garage sale, two snap on sockets and a cornwell, found in a box of no-name stuff. Paid fifty cents for all three.

Grabbed these 4 Jorgensen wood clamps and this 3lb Eastwnig sledge for 20 bucks.

It must be clamp day. I passed on a box of 6 of those this morning.

A light rain kept most of the vendors (and buyers) away from the flea market this morning. When I got there at 8a, the vendors were already starting to pack up. I considered myself lucky to find a few wrenches during the exodus. The seller wanted $2, but didn't want to break a $20 bill as he was packing up. I only had 7 quarters in my pocket, fortunately he said that was close enough.

$1.75
- Williams (triple line) 8" adjustable wrench
- Williams #1166 3/4" combo wrench
- Walden #2128 7/8" combo wrench (my first, its beefy, I'm impressed)

After that I figured that I'd hang out and jaw a bit with a couple venders I regularly see at estate sales. Apparently I wasn't the only one that had bad hunting this weekend. All three had the same stories about false ads and baby stuff. We were all hunting in different areas this week, but the results were the same for each of us, lots of driving for little gain.

And then ..................

.......... I spotted something a few tables down, as the vendor was packing his car. So I wandered down to take a look. A box with a pair of large deep c-clamps on top. I asked the guy for a price on the 2 clamps and he said $25 for the whole box (it was actually a wooden drawer). I really wasn't interested in the smaller clamps, but since just one of the large ones sells for that price or more, I was in. :bounce:

$25 - drawer 'o clamps
- 2 - Brink & Cotton 6" c-clamps (cross-bar screw handles)
- 3 - Sargent & Co 6" c-clamps (one winged thumbscrew is cracked)
- Craftsman clamp-on wood vise
- Jorgensen #108 8" c-clamp
- Cincinnati/Hargrave 8x12-48 deep c-clamp
- Cincinnati/Hargrave 8x16-48 deep c-clamp (broken wing, bar welded on)
- 3 - Craftsman #9-6666 corner clamps (light duty)
- Craftsman #9-6661 corner clamp (Crowntop logo)

I thought I was done buying clamps. Nope ! I'll need to buy a few more replacement screw pads, but otherwise these are in good useable condition. With a little patience, he could have easily gotten $100 or more for the box, but he was wet and didn't want to lift the box anymore.
My gain, thankyouverymuch. :D

The vendors I was talking to weren't happy that I stole a bargain like that out from under their noses,
on their turf, but they took it well. Bonus ! :rocker:

Posted in vise thread, got this at a garage sale today for $20. Funny how talking to people having a yard/garage sale can get you items they didn't even have setting out for sale.

It's a Schiller Park, 4" jaw, fixed base. Didn't check date stamp yet. In very good shape other than dirty. Works super smoothly.
