Not sure of the brand but similar to my Vidmar and equipto cabinets.

Edit: looks like it's a lista. Not bad for $60.

So...
I'm at my dad's, about 400 miles from my house.
He bought all that's in the picture for 300 bucks on Friday and repriced it for his yard sale on Saturday.
I can have it for the 300 bucks, but have no need.
I'll show next week what else he got at that yard sale....

Everybody needs that for $300.

This qualifies as a garage sale find, of sorts.

$65 off of Facebook this afternoon. Blew it out, put a 50A plug on it, and it powers up. Came with some 15' long 2/0 ground and electrode cables. Yet to have burned any rods with it (probably won't be able to get to that until after Thanksgiving) but despite its ragged outward appearance, everything inside looks good, just dusty. For the price I paid, what the hell. If it works, I just got a Miller TIG/stick for $65!

After lurking around this thread for many many months with great envy of all the fantastic finds that everyone has posted, I think I may have stumbled onto something that is worthy of posting here. At a local estate auction I stood beside this for about 15 minutes before finally noticing it. I really had no idea it was a Snap On box at first because the top box logo was covered with a vehicle advertising magnet. I had no idea of it's value but I decided that I was going to bid on it since it was such a beauty. So I did and here it is. What do ya think?

That thing is awesome. Looks like a machinists tool box, I've never seen one like it. Are the drawers lined? What did you pay for it?

Thanks, I really liked the Art Deco Style look. It had some old ugly yellow indoor/outdoor carpet in the drawers that I removed. It's in really great shape. No dents, all the drawers are smooth except for maybe one that sticks just slightly. Even has the keys for the top box. I think the top and bottom have been mated since their birth. Doing some research I believe it's a Snap On K-60 top box on a K-200 bottom or K260 combination.

That's a thing of beauty! So what did it bring at the auction?

SignGuy (SG for future posts): AWESOME and great eye. you don't have to post things this awesome just to post on this thread, but since it was your first post i guess you'd want to wait until you did find something. yes you found something alright. i just asked one of our members to post up a few pictures of his that he restored to post on the Metal cabinets thread even though it shouldn't have toolboxes cause i still remembered it from 2 or 3 years prior. here's a picture of FJ 432's Snappy and if you haven't seen the metal cabinet thread it might be one to look at and this Snappy is on post # 636.

All joking aside, Drives, some of the places I pick feel more like shrines to me, to the gods of the combustion engine, machinery, and American know-ho, and I've certainly been filling up the collection baskets! I need to do a major inventory this winter, followed by a spring Garage Sale.

It is. If it was made by a company in southern California it was used on ww2 era bombers.

I had a hunch it was wartime and USAAF fab related, d. It was made by JO Mfg Co, in L.A. (technically, Southgate), and I have other JO Mfg Co pieces (9/32inch drive wingnut sockets, to be precise), all wartime NOS, that came with other wartime NOS Plomb and Williams pieces in wartime NOS USAAF boxes. And there was a lot of other aircraft tools (PWA, WRIGHT) in the lot.

Do you have a source for the bomber reference?

d.,

Check out these excerpts from a 1948 JO Mfg Co catalog that a friend just hooked me up with...

Jo20Mfg20Torque20Tee-Handle_zpstlknadxg.jpg

Mine is marked differently than this catalog shows (on the vertical part of the handle, not the Tee), so I am even more inclined to date mine to wartime.

20161120_091829_zpskqari3kl.jpg

And just to round out the topic, here are those JO Mfg Co wingnut sockets I have.

Sign, for vintage SO boxes, that one is one of two holy grails... (the 300 being the other...) I suspect, if you got it cheap enough, you could have a first post USUCK

Thinking he might as well quit Garage Journal now, it's all downhill from here. Kind of like the guy who shot a 12 point buck the first time he went deer hunting.

Seriously! On opening morning no less! Not only that, he got the top and bottom! So in his case he stepped out of camp and got the buck!

With that middle chest in there, he shot the deer one handed from the window next to his camp bunk while reclining with a beer in his other hand.

It's not a machinists box, Its just so old Art Deco was in style.

Sign, please post some better pics with the top closed up as well, then you really get the effect.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL !

No sales listed for this weekend yet. But, I'm thankful for all the sales I've been fortunate to visit this year, and all the great things I've been able to harvest in my wanderings.

I'm also thankful for having a place to share my finds, and all the great friends I've made here at The Garage Journal all across the internet.

May you all be fat, happy, and sleepy before this day of giving thanks is over.

CHEERS !!

This was a cl trip I made yesterday with my grandson. 301 mile one way and did a lil sight seeing along the way. I picked 2 anvils, a 9 pounder and a 71 pounder. Also picked 5 vise's . Parker 63-1/2 with hardi cutoff, first gen 645 Wilton, Columbian 804, 506 Craftsman... still has a partial label on the D jaw. It's and early model and barely used if at all. Finally a 500 American in real nice shape and has the pipe jaws! Given that that haven't been made in 55 years that's a good thing...
Total cost of the 16 hour long trip was about 360.00

Check out this oiler… the needle stopper and the tip are threaded. Not sure what it is yet, other than something a machinist or gunsmith might use.

20161119_163642_zpsizpfcu1n.jpg

This amber see-through case, marked LUBRICANT CASE 7790995, goes with the M14 cleaning kit. The small chamber is for rifle grease. The large chamber was for oil or “LSA” (Lubricant, Small Arms). 1960’s.

Hey lug those oilers are very neat items. Can you post in the "Show Your Oiler" thread here:

That 90' one so unique, rare.

Hit an Estate Sale around the corner from home this AM and stumbled onto 2 barn lights that have been painted red (poorly). They are complete and they were cheap.

I'm going to see if I can get the red paint off and see what the condition of the green is underneath.

Cheers

Jim

Nice finds Jim! SG, paper towels, and saran wrap to keep the SG from evaporating should take those down to the porcelain pretty quick.

TSP would be ideal for removing the paint. 2 pounds to 1 gallon of water. Won't harm the luster of the porcelain .

Thanks guys!

topop101- is it really 2 pounds to a gallon? That seems like a lot.

This is next on the list of little projects . . .

Cheers

$5 (purchase also included forged herringbone knurl Craftsman 11/16" and SK deep 1" sockets).
1/2sqdr pressed steel sockets in an oak box with basswood dividers. Missing most of the lid, though the hinges and back side of lid were there, so I can rebuild it. Most of the sockets are marked only with fractional sizes. One has a Mossberg mark and another has an Ayers mark. Two others have split-out drive ends, but most are in great shape for being a century old.
1/2sqdr double male universal
6pt deep SP:
29/32, unmarked dome top
4pt:
17/32(M), 13/32
6pt:
1-9/32, 1-5/32, 1-3/32, 1-1/32, 1, 31/32, 15/16, 29/32, 7/8, 27/32, 13/16, 25/32(split), 3/4(split), 23/32, 11/16(A), 21/32, 5/8, 19/32, 9/16, 17/32, 1/2, 15/32, 7/16, 13/32, 3/8, 5/16;

So, I appear to be missing 11/32, 9/32, 1/4 or maybe 1-1/16, 1-1/8, 1-3/16, 1-7/32, or 1-1/4? Not knowing the manufacturer will make researching what was originally included in the set a little tricky.

Edit - I bought this set from a small antiques coop in Mansfield PA while visiting family. I will be looking for a driver for the set.
JakeMac posted a nice similar-age Ray set in a metal box a few pages back: http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5991078&postcount=5650

I recently saw a similar set of these at a local flea market. But given the obscurity of the item, and your description of the lid :)lol:), I'm curious if you bought them (your lo-cal doesn't match).

Great haul twertsy,

I especially like that set of Plomb line wrenches with the roll  Is the set complete ? Looks like you had one loose in one photo that is perhaps the missing one. If the Plomb tool roll is original I would be interested in seeing a photo of the writing on it, never seen a Plomb roll before.
