Im thinking I want it... should I ? the box is cool, but Ilike the toola.
The box is almost a total loss. Unless it is preserved in some way, it will continue falling apart into tiny shreds. The tools, on the other hand, are amazing. I had my bid in before it was linked here, but it's not all that serious. I simply cannot imagine it selling for less than $100 (and probably much more).

3/4 inch ratchet set. I put a regular 3/8ths ratchet next to it so that you can judge the size of this thing. It's about 3 feet long. The sockets run up to 2 1/2.

Here it is. Guy got it from an old gas station closing in Dallas that had been there forever. We been back and forth on it a while. Finally agreed to a price and she came home with me.

Nice find. I have not seen a plomb chest in the wild yet but if I do I think I would drop some serious coin to have one.

RAG: i doesn't look like original paint so maybe soak a few paper towels in Simple green and let them sit on your new box for a couple hours and see how that process works. lots of ways to remove paint, but SG is my go to first.

good luck

RAG: some of the guys swear by their commercial paint strippers, but i don't like having to wear that sort of mask or put those fumes into my garage/shop.

do a test with the simple green that usually removes most paints especially ones that were not prepped or applied very well.

Does not look like there is to much paint left but a light wire wheeling and sanding should get it ready for paint  Nice find! Does not look rusty

^ paint strippers (Kleen-Strip, Jasco, etc.) will cause bare steel to rust really really fast.
better to go with a heat gun and a scraper. I hate strippers - makes a mess and usually buggers stuff up big time. have had nothing but bad luck using them.

just my lousy two cents.

YMMV.

Wichita Falls to Dallas?!?! That's a heck of a drive! Kill any armadillos on the way? ;)

Did you end up getting it all stripped? What color are you going to paint it? Weird thing is I might know a guy with a sticker that would fit very nicely on it

I was just reading the 1952 P&C catalogue last night. You found some nice items there! I had no clue how much stuff they made or branded  So much stuff made for the trades and not just automotive or industrial :3gears:

Rag: some of that darker green i think was original paint so it would have been on there to stay. did you end up using power tools or do tell what method you used?

ALL: i found this P&C crescent wrench and a couple Pennens yesterday. it was the second sale i was at and i was shut out at the first sale that said they had tools. that might be the first time ever i stopped at a sale and didn't find anything even work negotiating on. anyway i had to go through a lot of cabinets at the second sale that was across town just to grab a handful of tools. either somebody had bought all the tools or pre 1960's tools at 75 year old estates just isn't going to work very often.

Yes sir Drives, the bottom still has the dark green paint, ill take a pic of that tonight. So far, the method I have been using is to cover an area about 4 square inches with acetone. Let it sit for about 20 second, then use a small brass bristle brush and use small circular motions. The paint comes off pretty well! There were three layers on here. Red, Yellow, and then the factory Green. No power tools used , I tried a brass wire wheel on back near the bottom and its just too much and getting into the metal.

Rag-did you try using jasco paint stripper? it is the most aggressive stripper next to actual air craft stripper and since it is a paste it will stay put and not run. The other nice thing about it is that it is water soluble! Looks like you are making great progress and we are all stoked for you! In terms of your question you asked in the garage sale thread about it's age... I would date it before WW2 based on the "o" being an actual o and not a "v" as in plvmb...Twertsy or carla should be able to confirm or deny this.

Thanks smoke! I been looking and cant find any advertisements or anything. Would be neat to see a brochure about this box and what might have come with it.
I got some aerosol Airplane stripper and used it on one side. It is like a foam almost and sat there about 20 min and then scrapped it with a plastic putty knife. It only took one layer of paint off. I cleaned it and let it dry and did second run... same thing.. one more layer od paint.. left a lot of gummy green paint. So I started with the acetone and brush and it cuts it really well ad doesn't mark the metal. Looks like it going to be a small area at a time. but it works really well.

Can't wait t find out some more info on this box. I notice its got a spring in the front right corner that must have been used to hold something.... and several holding clips inside the lid. After I get off work at 7 tonight I have a week off and will try to get it all striped and cleaned up.

The aerosol aircraft stripper is ****. you need to get the stuff in the gallon jug that you paint on. Make sure it is actual air craft stripper brand and not a knock off as I have tried both and the original brand is the best! Or just try the jasco from home depot and that will melt some paint!

Here is an item number to the jasco. Just paste it into the home depot web site and a picture will come up of the can! Can't wait to see this come together! (mostly because I envy you :) )
