Holy Godfrey Daniels that is a big bad mamma jamma. I didn't think to take a close look until you mentioned the 10" jaws and 700 lbs. That would make an awesome living room center piece. It looks museum quality. I know you have already received a lot of comments from seasoned posters but this little monster deserves several pages. What's the date of manufacture?

Well I can't compete with visezilla above but I'm finally beginning to get my new to me, USA made Columbian back into shape.
It's a model 044-M3.

DOM is unknown. Maybe you guys know? It has not been abused except that it was left outside for a year or so.

Dunlap was sold by sears as a step down from craftsman. I don't have much experience with open screw vises to comment any more though

Wilton did date their bullets, but most vise companies did not, so it is usually a guess.

Your Columbian, D44, not 0, is an M3. The M is kind of like a revision for Columbian. My guess would be anywhere from 1950 to late 80's, and don't bet the farm on that.

The Dunlap is a Craftsman sub brand. The most often seen is the 5244, very popular.

Both of yours are good little vises, they should serve you well....along with the 6" or more you will get next. And so I begins

Just picked up another Rock Island Vise at a farm auction for $30. This guy has hardly been used and I think all I am going to do is clean it and use it.

Anyone know its age and where i can find info about it(I'm guessing 50s)? My Google Fu is failing me.

Well boys here we are on Saturday night and once again lots to share and lots to enjoy getting to look at on this page.

The picture I'm including is upside down but that's how I found it and I thought y'all would get a kick out of knowing that was how the seller thought it was supposed to be....

This is by far the cleanest RR stand I own now! What a dandy!!

Vises: thanks for posting a picture of the RR stand upside down cause I (we) have seen plenty of pictures of it with a vise on it. DAMN that's why it weighs 1000 pounds.

i know it's not cheap to ship anything across the pond or did you figure out how to get the Military involved for better cheaper service? That German monster vise is pretty sweet too.

it's a nice day at the SALT MINES for you sir. WELL DONE!!

Mopar: one of my favorite companie's swivel jaw vise and i'd say a bit older than 50's and maybe pre WWII. is there a date stamp on the top of the dynamic slide just behind the static or some of my Rock Islands have date stamps someplace on the vise, but they all didn't have a date stamp.

Moore: i think we need a few more pictures when you get time. did the seller tell you it was a Flexivise or were you mentioning that because i thought it was? SWEET FIND!!

maybe if you can post up a picture of the company's label you had a picture of some of the guys might know something about that company?

ALL: i picked up this American Scale 51C 3 inch NON SWIVELING vise and since it's got some damage on one of the jaw towers it might end up waiting for a parts vise or good fix someday in the future. more than likely this damage happened cause some user in it's past hit the vise with a HAMMER. the screw holding the vise's jaw is missing too along with about an inch piece of the jaw's support

I don't know a lot, they were made in NY state and their combo vises, like yours, are identical to Parker combo vises. Don't know what the connection between the two is, but if you own either, you have an excellant vise.

Just saw the "Spreadsheet & Brochures". Hell of a nice job!

Mooreag, I think you got something there about the Flex-Vise.---jerryW posted one on page 90, post 1788.---See what you think.

Mopar, $30.00.---I think I hate you.---Na, you gotta respect anybody that can wrangle a deal like that.---That's a beauty.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VISEs, I kind-of like that back-yard tea table.---Drive has got a 400 lb. disk for a lazy Susan right in the middle.---It would be a one of a kind.:D

FMC, you'd be surprised what a man can five finger discount when the adrenaline is pumping, the heart is racing, and your real short on time.---Especially if you have help.

Joe: Sorry i haven't had the pleasure of owning an Athol swivel jaw vise (yet) and since i only thought Wilton swivel jaws had a threaded pin i'm glad you asked the question so VA could show his AWESOME STARRETT again.

my guess is the pin's head would have squared off sides so a wrench could fit on it. do they and can you post up some more pictures of your Athol?

good luck

VA: big round disks are headed across the boarder and i hope they don't sink the island they are going to end up on. also i can't imagine anybody bothering your chain gang if they have any knowledge that you are able to shoot birds in flight. lot easier to hit a 150-250 pound two legged one especially carrying a 200 pound piece of cast iron. JUST SAYING!! or maybe the chain rattling is to wake you and the dogs up?

Here's an anvil vises I picked up recently.---It's a J. ALLEN.--- VISEs was instrumental in helping me procure this little vise..---Actually he did all the heavy lifting on this one.---Can't tell if it is an old weld or a casting flaw over some of the numbers on the patent date.---But it's in pretty good shape to be about 120 years old.

Drive yes based on you're thoughts and further research it resembles a flexivise the seller just said it came from the kitty hawk. however I am not 100% sure on the maker. But after some cleaning and lube the thing runs like a raped ape and I am happy with it. Regardingno makers mark Somewhere along my travels some one told me that the military was notorious for removing names and part numbers from tools but having been in the Marine Corps I never experienced this dose anyone have any input on this I'll post more pics tomorrow after my swapmeet run

Neide, that's the first Oswego 289 1/2" I've seen.---It favors the Parker 289 1/2" and the Morgan 289 1/2.---Yours is a through the bench swivel base.---Still got the pipe jaws to.---That's kind of rare itself.---Nice find.

I have the identical vise on my bench (minus the riveted on tag) as my main user. Mine is date stamped, so I can get you that tomorrow if you'd like. I'll just say for $30, YOU ****!!!
I'd sooner give up my 6" Morgan than that little rock island. I use that vise daily in my business, and if I had to pick one vise I had to keep that'd be it without question
