14" Delta Bandsaw with Riser -$125 (South Boston, MA)

Looks like it's in pretty good shape. The riser alone almost sells that much.

Who says there's no deals in MA?

Rockwell Delta Dual Head 17" Variable Speed Drill Press w/cast iron table - $325 (Newton, NH)

These are sweet variable speed drill presses (mdl: 17-600) and easy to convert into a floor model. The heads have the adjust. rack & pinion gear to move it up and down. Beautiful cast iron table in great shape. One of these as a stand along sell for much more money and you get two. If they work and check out then this is a good deal.

For those of you in other areas, I'm sure there are screaming deals in your "free" section. You just have to look at ads with more than one main picture and look often. Some good items are hidden in the ad and it goes fast. Kinda like looking for hidden treasure. Not everything gets handed to you, effort is involved to find it. Thats why I'll post deals that I think may benefit some of you.

I agree with Tundruz and macgee. If you expect screaming deals to be easy to find, forget it. If you are looking for a specific category... let's say VISES, you can't expect low price, close by, good condition, and easily found all at once.
Sure, you can find good condition, easy to find, close by with a HIGH price or any other combination... just not all at once. :)

I have told people that hunting C/L for deals is like panning for gold. Takes a lot of time and you have to ignore tons of gravel, but there are a few nuggets there that keep a guy on the hunt. If you don't kinda enjoy it, it probably isn't worth your time for the money saved. Just buy new tools and equipment and get on with your life.

Regarding the box of tools Tundruz used as an example... (which as of 9:30 this morning was deleted by author, probably gone)
Let's all remember that there are deals out there that aren't always visible. I once bought an old military looking money box priced at $10. What didn't show was that it was completely full of electrical fittings that were worth at least $100
Also, I picked up what was advertised as a "box" of old tools. $20. The C/L ad showed some junky looking stuff like your pic spread out on the floor. Some useable. But no pic of the box. Turned out that the "box" was a nice red Kennedy carry box.

macgee has found some very nice deals in MA, so no doubt there are good buys everywhere; but as Shiftless says, you've got to sift a lot of gravel in every CL region to find the nuggets.

Maybe Tundruz can do a 'region of the day' search of the free CL sections to show it's not a wasteland outside of California? He has a nose for it, no question

i think people miss the point, while there are "good" deals everywhere, and there is a lot of gravel to sift to find them, i specifically was referring to the "free" things that appear, espically in the SF area. i understand that circumstances conspire to make things free there (small houses, expensive realestate, etc), but never the less, there are some killer deals out west, that make "good price for this" seem less attractive.

this does not mean that magee and the others should stop posting, or that other's should not step up and start. the reason that i dont post here often is that i dont see many killer deals (at least the "too much chatter not enough deals", and "if the chatter doesnt die down i'll start deleting accounts" crowd has not inhabited this forum, at least not yet.)

A friend just went there today and said the guy is selling everything for $.10 on the dollar. It's a young dude doing his own estate sale, don't think he knows anything about tools.

and somewhere, someone (father, grandfather, uncle) is spinning in his grave.

actually, i have found that even the "professional" estate people dont know anything about tools. the few that i have been to seem to value anything craftsman as gold, and *everything* else as ****. everything craftsman is individually priced, while proto, wright, SK, excelite, etc are thrown in a box, and they will accept whatever you offer, since it is all "junk".

Won't last long at that price.

Sgs, You're on a good roll. Keep them coming, good to see Pittsburgh being represented.

$15 is a very good deal for that grinder, it looks complete with spark arrestors, both eye shields in good shape, has both tool rests and lastly has both the side covers. People usually pay way more on fleaBay just to buy one of those parts.

Jim:
Don't bother... That vise is the standard issue Harbor Freight $69 vise.
With a 20% off coupon you'd get a new one with return privileges for when it breaks and only spend about ten bucks more.

Many thanks!!

Hardwood flooring contractors LOVE those little table saws!
My guy had one very similar and told me he has turned down offers to sell it with numbers 20 times as high as that C/L deal!

I was at an auction a few weeks ago that had about 10 of those old Craftsman compact saws. All of them were in various states of disrepair. Cute little buggers.

I was more interested in the logos.

My CL DOD was grabbing four John Deere 14SB/SE mowers in Elkhart for a total of $255. Gonna make one nice runner for our son and part out the rest.
