Show your "Long C" Craftsman!

I've been sorting and cleaning more stuff today. Took a few pix too. Also found pic of stuff I haven't dug out since last year.

- 1/2" drive Craftsman BE speeder with amber handles. This is the first one I have actually found in the wild. It came my way from a pawn shop for a couple bucks.

- From the same pawn shop comes this long-C combo wrench. The only one I have ever found in the wild. Pictures with a few DOE wrenches I've picked up over the past few months.

- Long-C Craftsman DBE set. Most of these came from an estate sale I went to a couple years ago. They were in a file cabinet in the barn, covered in rust!

- Long-C "tappet" wrenches.

- Misc Long-C DOE wrenches.

And because there wasn't enough room in the last post, this one gets to be by itself.

The first wrench is a deep-offset shorty DBE. Uncommon, if not rare. It's the only one I've ever found in the wild.

The second wrench is an early round-shank shorty DBE. It's the only one I've ever seen - period!

Both wrenches came from a small lot I purchased off CL. I drove across town exclusively for these two wrenches!

Craftsman "Circle-U" 1/2" and 3/8" drive ratchets, made by Plomb (the 1/2" drive with a Plomb WF-38 cover plate robbed from Smokeshow's ratchet).

The 1/2" drive was found in pieces (but incomplete) at a Goodwill store for $3. The 3/8" drive ratchet came from a swap meet for $10.

So I had a little free time today to photograph my long c tools today ! I don't have many but the ones I have I love! Brian sure has competition this year at the swap meet [emoji51]

Long c torque wrench, ball pein hammer that someone spray bombed
, long c flat tip screw driver with screw holder! Plastic is in mint shape. 3/8 dr hinge handle

Dbe's and tappett wrench

Long c buffing compound in the box/sleeve

Can't quite tell what it says on the box but it almost looks like a date of 1953?

Original belt from my crown top power bronze 150 model drill press... It is a crown top with a long c belt

Long c 1/4 drive box... I am missing sockets but Rileysan has some and maybe someone on here has some?
I picked this up a few years ago ! It does include the bar for the hinge handle but no hinge handle.. It is a be manufactured set.

SMOKE & LUG: i can honestly say i've pass on more pipe threading sets than almost any other tools i've come across even at giveaway pricing, but with the packaging your Craftsman ones comes in and also made by REED i'm now on the lookout for some.

Outlaw: have you ever tried to buy another brand's toolbox with a nicer looking leather handle to swap with your cool Long C box full of great tools? or i think you said you thought there were shoemakers or somebody that still makes leather handles if and when that swap or restoration comes to the top of your list?

ALL: i'm enjoying this thread and keep posting up your cool old tools as you find them cause i'm betting a lot of you own some and didn't even know it that are sticking in your dad's or gramp's old toolboxes.

Drives, you can get them in leather, new or remade, but I generally reserve that for the missing or the too uncomfortable to use handles. It's not like I carry this set everywhere I go...

Outlaw: funny you say that cause i have a Blackhawk and Plvmb box similar full of their tools and if they were users i'd move them to a big toolbox or one of my huge flat file drawers cause carrying them in that sort of box throws some of them all over the place. :thumbup:

Here's my 1936 or 37, 3/4" drive socket set. It's made by SK but all except the short extension is marked Craftsman. The extension is marked S-K-Chrome. I say 36 or 37 because SK started using the Circle K stamp in 38 and these are not marked. And I shouldn't say but I got the entire set plus a 4276 Duro-Chrome ratchet thrown in on a deal for $10. Some days it pays to carry a flashlight and look under the work bench.

Welcome to GJ! Let me first say "you ****!" for getting that set for $10. If you have other pix, I'd love to see a close-up of one of the sockets. I'm curious if the scripting is the same as my later circle-K set.

Also, creating albums is a great way to show off all your stuff on one page, but will make it harder to show off the intended photo as your album grows. I recommend using the attachments icon (paperclip) and post directly to the thread. This image was created by another forum member, so I take no credit.

Thanks Brian. I'll try that method. I got frustrated trying to post a pic and finally just quit and walked away. I'll get you a pic or two of a socket for your reference. I thought it was strange that this set doesn't include a 3/4" ratchet either.

Very different from my 1950s set. I also have the S-K set that matches my Craftsman set (I actually use them at work).

In my end-of-year stock taking as a picker, after I'm done breaking my arm patting myself on the back for all the "SCORES" I had, I like to go through my "LEFT-BEHIND" (couldn't afford it, not over the moon about it, etc) folder. Keeps me humble and hungry.

In that folder I found these pics of a Craftsman rotary tool I spotted but did not buy at one of my flea markets earlier this year. With original paperwork! I don't even remember how I talked myself out of this one, but whatever the reason, it seems stupid to me now! :lol:

EDIT: As you may recall, notlob posted a wonderful example from his collection. His, linked here, seems earlier than this one. Anyway, for posterity and future identification...

ALL: anybody have one of these old Long C bandsaws? a guy in my area has this one and and says he like the way it works, but i wanted to hear what some of you say if you might have one.

if it was mine i'd probably swap out the motor with an old Craftsman motor or maybe upgrade to a DC motor to cut metal cause i don't have room for a couple bandsaws.

I'm sure i've got some of those old wrenches that look like the writing has been hand written and i'll try to find them to take pictures to post them to add to our group's.

Twertsy, that's an interesting miter... I've not seen the beveled corner on one that era. I think that has the thin track bar, correct? 3/16 vs. 3/8? T Saws in the 30's used the thin one.

Scored this long c driver with a rough shank but nice handle ! Forgot I also had these 1/2 drive 4 point sockets in my box... I don't use them often but when I need them I really enjoy them !

I have one but can't tell you much about how it cuts because I just got it a couple months back and haven't gone over it yet. What I have read though is that they are quite capable of performing their job.What I can tell you is that if that's a 12in. it will take a 78" blade which are hard to come by unless you make your own or have them custom made. What most do though is to put a one inch block in between the tension adjuster and the frame effectively making it an 80in. blade which you can get almost anywhere.

Drives, Walker Turner built early bandsaws for Sears and that looks like one. I recall seeing that one running on Craigslist for a while. Looks to be in decent shape, obviously a repaint. Seems nicely done bug not crazy about the color.

I could only find a few long c tools in my shed. BE marked 3/8 and 1/4 inch ratchets, a circle U 3/8 breaker bar and a CI marked offset dbe. I gotta get busy to keep up with you guys.
