After seeing this beautiful set, I was inspired to take mine off of the back burner and start looking for tools to fill it up.

I can help you with that, Don. I know I have a speeder, maybe a breaker, and some other pieces. Give me some time to clear the decks on some other things and we can do some horse tradin'. Ping me if I totally forget.

Thanks, Lugz! It seems like Tin Medic might have some wartime pieces as well, not too surprisingly. Something tells me that this will be easier than I thought.

Got this in a box I bought. First tool besides wrenches I've seen marked Blue Points.efe4f9f487fbe8821380bfdc85b9abcb.jpg0391bef51e0f102243bf8f93320afc50.jpg

Looks just like my new ones! Amazing how some things are almost just like 90 years ago.

Less Ferret than I thought in the orphan Snap-On bin...
- F-4-D speeder with an "E" code
- F-18 (9/16") swivel socket with an "E" code
- F-240 (3/4") socket with a "G" code

They're yours if you want them (I am concentrating on my Williams Bantam set). PM or email.

I found a couple of ratchet wrenches today at an estate sale. They are from 1948 and 1949 and are hand engraved US on the opposite side.

Hey Don -

I have a breaker bar and at least one other ferret. I'll toss them in the NBLB bag.

Thanks, BB. Snapmom generously donated this nice wartime sliding Tee to the set so it is moving in the right direction.

Nice, Don. You only need two more to compete the set for those years: No. 77 (5/8 x 3/4) and No. 79 (3/4 x 7/8). I did some quick research on them when I found a 1944 No. 75 last year. I only need to find a commensurate No. 76 to complete the set for that era. They were only available in one size when the set was introduced in 1932. It grew to five or six or more by the 50's and later.

There is another trayless fb50 on ebay! Seems those trays are often gone.

Picked up a "> BLUE-POINTS - CHICAGO <" No. 1214 (3/8 x 7/16) DOE wrench today, along with a pair of 1/4-inch drive spinners. The stubbie is a Snap-On TM-40. The other one with the gray composite handle is a PAR-X UP4. The only difference between that and the TM-4 as far as I can tell is no female opening (for double-duty as an extension) on the **** end of the handle.

Although they made a stubbie M-40 (in the 9/32-inch drive size) in the 30's through the end of the war, they didn't make it again in the 1/4-inch size until 1950. Guessing the same (50's, probably later) on the PAR-X.

Nice finds, Lugz! The only SO I found today was this 1/4" nutdriver effectively doubling my Snap-on nutdriver inventory. Here is a picture of a Blue Points ignition wrench as well.

Among my Snap-on finds yesterday was this working No7 ratchet, according to AA from 1929. I'll have to examine it more closely for the date code.

What do you people think about this dark finish combo wrench? The only markings are the size and the logo. No part number.

I rarely find vintage Snap-on pliers and I got lucky digging through a plastic milk crate full of pliers at the flea market this morning. I'm not exactly sure what these are, frankly. Model No. "387" (7" long) diagonals with an extra fine marking. The premium Vacuum Grip pliers with large over-capacity jaws, like these, were model no. 386. And they made standard No. 85, 86 and 87 dykes. These are smooth grips, and I can't find any "387" pliers in the catalogs. The date code - under one of the handles - is an "8". Based on the Snap-on branding (upright font) I am thinking 1938.

It is boxy, but I can't tell if that's intentional (like the 1968 code) or a crude stamp. But you could be right. It looks like the model no. 387 was first introduced in 1955. I didn't even look that late. No sign of it as far as I can tell before then. Two things are still throwing me, though. I'm not used to seeing that straight up and down logo on postwar Snap-on tools, which had the more modern, slanted logo. And the handles are smooth. All the cats say the no. 387 had the famous Vacuum Grip (suction cups) pattern handles. Maybe snapmom will come along with an opinion.

Later than what? As far as I know, ALL Snap-on Vacuum Grip pliers have that classic Vacuum Grip (suction cups) grip. And the Vacuum Grip high-leverage No. 386 (1931 through 1954) and No. 387 (1955 and after) diagonal pliers shown in a smattering of catalogs I just checked (1931, 1939, 1948, 1958, 1967, 1975, and 1983) ALL have that grip. None are smooth.
