I still have some of my dad's tools too. They are quite special.
The box may have the model number and date code stamped on it, take a look all around it.

Picked up this WWII A-59444 long 3/8" drive ratchet a few months back. No Snap-On markings but Snapmom identified it. Snapmom is about the only person I could find that has posted information about this model before. Date code is G. Ratchets OK by hand but you can see the drive gear has a few teeth in poor condition.

Yup it is a hole. Don't know if it as drilled by Snap On or more likely an end user. If it was used on airplanes it may have been "tethered" for working in certain areas where a dropped tool was nearly impossible to retrieve.

My Dad called it his "ignition box", as he carried all his 1/4" drive stuff in it, ignition wrenches, ignition point tools, as well as some points and condensers when he'd make a road trip to do a tuneup. Many a night or weekend I'd carry that box as a child, while he toted his timing light, tach/dwell meter and other tools in a larger open tote. After he passed away, I loaded it with all my 1/4" drive stuff, tucked it into the bottom compartment of my roller cabinet and use it to this day. I don't visit his gravesite often, but that box and his two-drawer middle section incorporated into my tool cabinet are all I need to rekindle memories.

Came across this today at the flea market. RS1012 “ratcheting open end” Blue Point Supreme. No date code that I can see.

None of the standard Supreme line DOE wrenches had date codes in this era, either, LS, which I think is wartime through late 40's.

Just bought them cause they looked cool! Thought it was odd no date codes. 55 catalog shows them as a set for industrial maintenance, but gives no individual model numbers. Then on next page shows same wrenches in pouches but they are bluepoint!

Found a few more on the web, Thanks had no clue what to call it. I like it! Most I see say they were made in the 20s. Mine has no date code I can find.

Usually if they have a code, it would be on top of the socket.

I have an vintage 1/4 Snap-On set from my grandfather, it consists of 8 sockets, a 6-inch extension, a driver with an orange plastic handle, a sliding T-bar, a unmarked/no-name breaker-bar (presumably added), a modern Thorsen 77M ratchet (added), and a vintage Bonney RF22 refrigeration ratchet converted to 1/4 drive by the addition of a piece of 1/4 square bar-stock held in place with two nails acting as cotter pins on either side of the ratchet head. Here are a some more snap on versions. It appears the sockets were cross drilled and then plug welded from the top, perhaps to avoid the above patent

Here’s what I learned on the age:

“After some research in the Collecting Snap On catalogs, I think they were first marketed in 1927.

-1927, part of the Ferret 3/8 socket set, which included just two wrenches 7/16x 1/2 and 9/16x 5/8.

-1928-1931, now three wrenches listed. 7/16x1/2, 9/16x5/8, 11/16x3/4.

- 1932-1938, only one wrench available. 9/16 x 5/8.

That’s what I found with the catalogs available on the site. What a great resource as always.”
