Found an older little 2 oz Blue Point hammer today. Marked Kenosha, Wis. USA. Snapmom, any idea of the date for this?

Picked up these 7/8 drive extensions. They apparently forgot to stamp the long one

I looked into [EDIT] ball-pein [/EDIT] hammer markings for WWII collecting purposes, 3bay, and determined that they started marking them with model numbers (e.g., "BP-4", BP-16", etc) around 1953. Hence, we in the WWII collecting community generally look for only the branding and the weight (e.g., 4 ozs) on the cheek. I have found a couple 4 oz hammers (the GMTK included a 4 oz and a 32 oz) and the weight has been marked on the same cheek as the branding, under the branding, as in the larger sizes. I suspect the 2 oz head provided insufficient space on the cheek for both branding and size marking so they put it on the flip side cheek.

Nice hammer!

In BP body hammers, the BFxxxx shows up in the 39 cat. I do collect the BP body hammers, but in Ball Pein I only collect the Blue Points.

A chart on BP body hammers.
Cat year and model numbers in those years. Some where late 50s early 60s the names were changed to SO

So I picked up a rusty tool box because of a couple Plomb and proto la items in it. I found this 3/8 drive stubby spinner handle that was caked in dirt. 3/8 drive spinners are kind of odd so I cleaned it up. What first caught me was the shape of the handle that reminded me of some old blue point nut drivers. After cleaning the only mark I could find beside the owner's mark was F-40. I remember the old snap on ferret sets had a similar number system. So is it a snappy?IMG_20180628_193348304_HDR.jpegIMG_20180628_193353556.jpeg

I don't usually pick up snap on stuff, but I've always wanted one of these little mv-71 ratchets. Military, yes? Couldn't pass this one by for 5 bucks.

I meant from a document. I've seen the TM's for the Packard-built Rolls-Royce licensed Merlin engine toolkits and I don't remember sockets and drive tools. Maybe I don't have that particular list.

The tricky thing about AT-marked tools is that Fairchild Ranger used the same system. Often accompanied by Ranger, but not always. Plomb AT tools are Fairchild Ranger. I haven't de-coded this, but I believe it was common to US Army Air Corps, not a manufacturer.

Blue Point model ROEX wrenches. Not in the cats, would date close to 40. I have been trying to build a set, but it is near impossible. If you have any holler at me.

Yeah, I never took notice to the drive tools (rat, sliding tee, long extension and stringer of sockets and crows feet) in the middle of the diagram on snapmom's thread. Soon after I posted that I found her thread and saw them.

I found this Snap-On 3/4-inch drive socket at my Friday Early Bird. It's had a hard life. Apparently it's birth wasn't too easy, either, considering it was "made" three times, in 1931 (*), 1933 (<>), and 1936 (unless that's a 9!?) :)

Those are hard to find. I have one set I had to pay some $ for dated 1931

I spotted this ratcheting screwdriver at the flea this morning and asked the seller if he had the missing bit cover. He said that he didn’t and gave me the driver for free. I had an orange one at home that skipped in one direction so now I have a two tone one that works great. Since we are SF Giants fans the colors worked out perfectly. :)

Don, call Snap on directly about the skipping orange one and they will warranty it. They will even pay the shipping both ways. They still make or at least have, the orange hard handle version as they just gave me a new long shaft one to replace a 70's bit driver handle that turned into a sticky stinky liquid inside (nasty). You should be able to get the exact replacement.
Just FYI.
Pete.

That is one fine looking color scheme.

Thanks for the feedback guys. While I was messing around with them I disassembled the orange one and looked at all the little pieces for a while. I hit it with a little WD40, reversed the pawls and put it back together. It no longer seems to be skipping but the black one still works a little better. Besides, I prefer the color scheme.

I'll add in one of my oldest. 1-1/8" square, with approx 7/8" (mangled a bit) drive. Has both S/O overstrike and Snap On on it with a -7 date. My research shows that the square sockets and S/O overstrikes are older than that, so perhaps it went through some processes more than once over the years.

This was part of a large group of Industrial series tools that I picked up and many had dates that conflicted with design. Another interesting note is that many of these sockets I had were built with a spring loaded cross pin across the square drive that would only fit a special driver with a keyhole slot in the square drive. They looked to me like they could have been one off specials for an industrial application that had worries about tools walking out of the building, as most were useless without all the proper pieces. I don't have the driver, it was mangled completely beyond recognition. Most of the cross pin in the sockets were damaged as well and were hammered on as bearing or seal drivers too. Still neat stuff.
I kept one big one as a pencil holder for my desk at work. I will have to shoot a pic of it.

Yes it is unusual to see that style in that year. This is the earliest 3/4 set I have found. It is all dated 1930 and is the later style socket, with the exception of the 1 1/2 which has the older style knurling. I have not seen any 3/4 in the older style other than that.

Pretty sure that is a -9, Lugz. 1929.
Yes, most likely. Those were hard times for everyone as the depression started to take hold, and according to 'The Snap/on Story' (from the 1960 40th anniversary stockholder's meeting), Snap/on was no exception. I am guessing it was made in 1929, sat as NOS for two years, got stamped again in 1931, sat again, and got stamped again, and sold, finally, in 1933.
