Very cool, I always thought about dabbling in some stained glass but figured I already have too many hobbies !

Have you ever used a Diamond ring saw ?

I looked at buying one for tile and thought I could also use it for glass should I have the itch...

For cutting glass? Glass is cut by scoring the glass and then breaking at the scored line. I use a water feed diamond grinding wheel to clean up the cut.

"Frustrating morning: I planned on getting to a yard sale before the 8:00 start time as the description sounded too good."

Something similar happened to me this morning. A garage sale was listed as having one of the '50's three wheel bandsaws from Craftsman for $20 and I planned to be there about 15 minutes before they started at 9am. Got there and it looks like it was going for about a half hour at that point... Missed the BS by 5 minutes!

D.F.A. Nice job on the window. Did a few windows and a copper foil clock many moons ago. It was a great hobby for me.

I haven't posted any finds for a couple of weeks. These are some of the highlights:
Browning shotgun case for an A5 along with 3 cleaning kits
Atlas garbage can cart
Athol No. 1 vise, it's been brazed but still cute
2 adjustable wrenches: Shapleigh's Diamond Edge 6 inch DE-6, and F.W.K. Tool Co. 6 inch made in Germany

On my way home from work today, I get off at 3:00, I passed a garage sale. Normally I don’t have luck when I show up in the later part of the day, but I swing in. Turns out, she was running really late and was just getting set up for the entire weekend. Most was baby and household items but I did notice a nice little Wilton wood vise. She said her Dad mailed to her husband 5 years ago and it was just sitting in the garage. Her husband is in the Navy and is out to sea. I gave her the $10 for the vise and told her thank you very much!

What makes me most happy is that I was really looking for a good wood vise and was almost to the point of buying a new one.

Picked up this stack for the contents. Pics to come. Anyone local looking for a Craftsman stack? The top box is a 72 and the bottom is a 75. All 3 came with their keys.

tin medic,
I sent you a PM. Too far for me but I'm trying to put you together with someone else who may be interested. Check your messages. I've emailed him so he may be getting in touch with you.

Beautiful piece of artwork.

The saw I was talking about is this one.

The diamond grinder looks pretty handy, bet it would work on tile also.

Thanks wrenchguy and Outlaw.

With info, was able to locate another fence stretcher/hoist identical to it and that one had a little more detail still visible.

Attached 2 picture are of the other one, not mine.

That’s beautiful! When I saw it, I was immediately reminded of this one, in my 100+year-old home.
I had a 4’-long, 1/2”-thick pane of beveled glass I wanted to shorten by 1/4” on each end, and used a cheap HF tile wet-saw with diamond blade very satisfactorily to cut it.
My usual use of glass is replacing it in picture frames. I run a bead of oil along a straight edge and score it with a metal wheel tool, then snap it on the straight edge. The oil lubricates the wheel, but also traps the micro-bits of glass. I then wash the glass and install it.
I have also used a belt sander to smooth the edges of irregularly-shaped glass. That’s probably a resperatory hazard under most conditions, so wear protection and make provision for clean-up.
I’d appreciate any corrective suggestions if I’m doing it wrong.

Unruh, nice score on the Wilton woodworking vise. It's always better when you find something you actually need! I should add...you ****!

One sale this morning had nothing but tools, I'd been salivating over it on Kijiji since Monday. Unfortunately most of it was cheap imports. But there were a few good things to be had, thoug I left most of it behind.

I grabbed this for 5$
44063401422_7b8bbabeef_c.jpg

Snap-On Swivel impacts in 13 mm (x2), 18 mm and 11/16"
Mac swivel impact in 5/8"
Snap-On 9/16" and 7/16" Combo's

My other two planned stops didn't pan out. Might head back to the first sale again in an hour or so to see what's left.

The big flea market in the area was happening this weekend, but calling for 2" of rain today, hopefully it reopens later on tonight or tommorow morning.

Went to a local estate sale this morning, $19 bucks for everything pictured. The green roll tool pouch with tools looks like maybe an old auto tool kit? Anybody know anything about it?

I've seen this off and on for months on CL. B&S Micrometer, $25.

Sounds like a good deal, but am I missing something?

On eBay, 25.00 is an average price. You would need to be able to measure something of a known dimension to verify it. If the barrel turns smooth and does not look like it has been dropped, maybe it has a shot. Next question, how often do you measure something that big with a mic?

Ryan, the kit probably is for a car; probably something German, based on the DIN wrenches and the definitely German style of pliers. any makers marks? I know BMW and Mercedes often marked theirs, at least in later years. (I just sent a set of BMW DOEs off with my daughter to collage to maintain her bike.) the green also makes me think military? but European.

Two garage/estate sales nearby, so I procrastinated on garage work and went hunting. The first stop didn't look promising from the photos, but you never know, so I stopped in. It was underwhelming--a small workbench in the basement with every single item individually labelled and priced. Gag. There was a new-ish 4.5-in Columbian bench vise in like-new condition for $25, but I already have more vises than I can use. I had higher expectations for the second stop, but the guy running it hadn't gotten everything pulled out that he had pictured. I rummaged through some tool totes and came up with a few goodies:

3aed15ffb3c340b2a7913e630837ba91.jpg

Two unlabelled hammer handles
Small Vaco standard screwdriver
Unusual long-handled Phillips, marked "Chrome Vanadium" in the shaft
Xcelite X408 Phillips
Stanley bottle opener for the garage fridge
Small Barlow-branded pocket knife

Out in the driveway I found a pile of rebar and driveway markers. I got everything pictured for ten bucks.

0bc37d5aed9c2814f76ea422442510af.jpg

Third stop was a TOO out in the sticks. Some neat stuff, tool-wise, but nothing to make me pull out my wallet.

Another rather slow day. dog days of summer I guess. Hopefully next weekend will be better (big annual event...) One big stop (always a week before the other annual event....) with a bunch of families that is usually pretty good. the guy I usually buy from got sticky about not separating a Plvmb combo and a Blackhawk bullet breaker bar from a box marked $40.. so those got left.

Sort of light on tools today, but I did get 2 Billings combos, an old Rainbird, sprinkler, a pair of dividers and a Sansui Frisbee for $3,

Also this Daisy BB gun cleaning kit, mostly there The oil and touch up bottle are missing everything else is there;

and lastly this 26 key Honner Piano Melodica for the musical instrument collection.

2 of 3 other stops were a bust, as well as several TOO's. The one stop that had anything had the selection of springs, and the Proto and Wiha metric hex drivers.

Spent another 5$ at the sale from this morning:

43209637895_b4c7154d39_c.jpg

Snap-On USA Philips #2 with a slightly grinded tip. Should still be useful when I need the length
Snap-On Canada flat blade
3 Irwin USA flat blade wood handle's
Milwaukee 16' tape measure. I despise the modern bullky tape measures, but for the price and it's a Milwaukee (stupid koolaid is getting to me)
Blue Point CHN426 pliers

Thanks 3bay! I'm finding my fingers are too fat do do a lot with the keyboard. Maybe with practice? :dunno: This one was made in Germany. Not sure of all Honner instruments are/were...

I was more impressed with the BB gun cleaning kit. I never saw one before!

I question the need for one. There's no powder residue in a BB gun. Perhaps it's one of those "establish good habits" things paired with good marketing.

Not a lot of need, but its a kids gun, and its going to get dropped, probably nose first in the dirt. Getting some oil in the bore will also reduce wear and prevent rust, although the copper plated BBs are supposed to be "self lubricating" For what I paid I'm not complaining, and I like having a cleaning rod that fits my pellet pistols, if not the rifles..

Spent morning with my dad. Decided the intermittent rain was going to spoil the Athens PA outdoor flea market, so did some indoor shops in Mansfield. $7.30 today: a “PT’D” set of iron pulleys and manila rope, a Plomb pebble DBE, a Blue Point Supreme 1012 DOE date stamped 1937, a Snap-On 1/2dr socket from 1942, and a hex-drive Hinsdale speeder with a frozen detent ball. I had my hands on some even more attractive Snappy items today, but the vendor was aparently AWOL, and the person left in charge was uncertain they were for sale...frustrating. Also a Henry Disston & Sons No2 clamp-on saw-sharpening vise marked $20. Just a bit more than I want to pay.

Slow day for sales. First stop was a "handyman's" estate sale. Spent $24 on an Akro-Mils organizer full of hardware, a set of Craftsman Handy Cut utility cutters, HF brush set and a Stanley combination square. The other sales didn't have any tools worth buying and the ReStore was picked over, but bought a 35 gallon trash can to hold crushed aluminum cans in the shop for a buck. They wanted $10 for Akro-Mils organizers missing all but 2 or 3 drawers so passed on those.

The last picture is the biggest drum I've ever seen that was at a local salvage store. Didn't askbthe price on it, but that's my 6 foot 8 son standing next to it for reference.ea0877afbde821f885037ebf81f3e0c0.jpgf9d6974212c9312de4da4f679041c65c.jpg5946eab975f0c55512167033ea796d50.jpg7c6695dd643abeb53cff971e395d8cd1.jpg

Seems to be block and tackle fence stretcher (long) weekend! Nice find!

Here is a small lightweight Block and Tackle I made a couple of years back for hunting out of bits and pieces in the garage:

A few offset screwdrivers and a hammer, all for $1!
From left to right Enderes USA, Craftsman, Craftsman, Stevens (I think?), Craftsman, and Bridgeport. The S-shaped Stevens is a peculiar one, I couldn't find any info about it;
IMG_20180818_194315.jpg
To the right of the brand, upside down and very faint, it reads DR. NEWTON.
Anybody know anything about this one? Actually, if anyone can tell me the rough age of any of these, I would appreciate it.

Here is a small lightweight Block and Tackle I made a couple of years back for hunting out of bits and pieces in the garage:

My son has been trying to figure out reasons why we need it and where it would go. It is really impressive in person. 🥁🥁

Must be strange instrument day! That drum is great.

Dungeon- the Stevens is probably the same Stevens that merged with Walden in the 1920s, aka Stevens Walden. It is odd shaped, no telling if it had a specific purpose, but I have seen others that were curved rather than just offset. An odd one I saw by Buffum Tool comes to mind.
