Estate sale haul continued:

A wilton 1740 vise from 1977, in pretty decent shape!

"Hey if you are getting the vise ,you need this steel place from outside!" (drags me outside and "insists" they go together, and the two bolts do line up...) :pimpflash

Over 20 X 20, about 3/4" thick plus stiffing ribs and stub legs:

A pair of WWI bayonets! One English, the other German:

And after i loaded up, I made a second careful pass through and picked up the belt sanding material and the hose end (I already had the morracca) an extra $3 for those two...

The neighbor just sold me this Craftsman and a generic hardware store brand tool boxes for $4 that he got from a garage sale this morning. I've already got a replacement Craftsman tray with the handle and should have one for the other box.9db1ce46fd2528f1263d5d4ffb691538.jpgce8d64cb62a1d341376dd2374c7b5652.jpge12db79fc392cb2fc46623e1b68e882d.jpg6b92d4f4e2def0200145f1200e013568.jpg59bcd744818a7c3bf747f0471b84199d.jpg

Yesterday's finds at 2 estate sales, $25.
Vaughn hammer
Marples chisels 6/10/13/19 mm, look never used
Plomb 5263 18" 3/8 dr extension, date code 0B (1930, I think)
Craftsman 7" duck bill snips
Crescent 7" diag cutters
Tub for parts cleaning
Asst bag of wire
Huot A-Z index with 18 HSS letter drills

Chisels have some very light surface rust but straight faces and should flatten well. Snips are a nice smallish size that I didn't have. I have near zero use for the letter drills but couldn't leave them behind. I teased my machinist cousin that if I garage/estate sale long enough, I'll eventually assemble a machine shop.

The estate company had a funny pricing system for their tools. I never dealt with this guy before. All tools under 12” were $1. Over 12” were $3.
That's the weirdest thing I've ever heard. That's weirder than weight or volume or big box, small box.

Holo-Krome box contents. Box needs some straightening... A couple of things liik like sewing machine parts? :dunno:
I am pretty sure the corollary for Holo-Krome is Allen or Bristol. They made cross-recess fasteners and "keys" (or socket wrenches) that fit the fasteners.

Yeah, I have a bunch of Allen wrenches marked Holo-Krome.
Last day of the season at the Tahoe flea today and I found a few worthwhile goodies. Plenty of Craftsman including a =V= Whitworth socket. I found a Plomb screwdriver and a WF 3/8” drive speeder. My favorite item was the early ammo box with the Ordnance Department logo on one end. The day wouldn’t be complete without a Barcalo wrench.

The wife and I went to an antique fair today, and while there was a lot I could have dumped serious money on, I only picked up this:
15wmafr.jpg

A Svea 123 backpacking/mountaineering stove. Picked this up for $10, and while cleaning it I found this:

Cool ordnance logo.

Yeah Lugz, on the tool pricing, it didn’t matter much because there were maybe 30 tools total. If they had some serious stuff it would have made a huge difference.

Picked up this alien head craftsman 6” planer made by king Seeley. It was originally power bronze but someone spray bombed it [emoji849] internals and knives are in good shape with no damage. The height adjustment knob lever is bent like something hit it so I need to find another for it and get it cleaned up and repainted. It came with a link belt and motor wired for 240v. I should have a correct motor for it! All told it was $60 but they are not common so I was very excited to get my hands on one!

Can someone tell me about these sockets that have a star on each side of the size? Are they from WWII?

Also I’ve never seen the socket with the adjustable like spanner wrench top on it

Indestro. Early 1920s stuff. I have most of a set, been a pain to find missing pieces since nobody knows what they are.

3Bay, that Griswold No. 14 is AWESOME, nice score!

Don, I love those old .50 cans...and the "Modern" MFR mark gives it a little "extry" :)

Picked up three Draw Knives, but only one of the three had a mfg name still on it.

Pic 1 & 2--Winsted Edge Tool Works Winsted Conn with 12" edge blade on draw knife and also has Karpenter on it

Pic 3 & 4--No mfg name found on draw knife with 10" edge blade

Pic 5 & 6--No mfg name found on vintage scorp inshave coopers draw knife shave

Pic 7--No mfg name on old style chisel/scraper

Mike

The adjustable handle is a James Swan Patent, although the one I had said Noble Manufacturing. I've never been able to tell if "chisels" like that were mason's tools or valuable caulking irons. http://www.datamp.org/patents/search/advance.php?pn=386903&id=16996&set=20

Big sale for those in the Buffalo NY area. Surprisingly judging from the photo's I don't see much in the way of truck brand tools given that the guy had his own shop. Perhaps those were sold or picked previously when he closed up shop. Sale like this you would have take multiple passes to take everything in. Unfortunately this company tends to be high on the tool prices.

So 3bay coming up this week? :hellobye:

Man those are some  worthy photos!

I think I see a Craftsman amber handle speeder, what looks like a Blackhawk 3/4 ratchet, Snap On, Williams, Proto in there. Lots of good stuff. That guy definitely had every tool.

They get so many good tool sales. I don’t want to think about the crowd and the prices though.

Looks like I’ll save a lot of money by not being there. Good luck! I hope you get there and report back. Find some goodies.

I bought a 1970’s/1980’s-ish tap and die chart from a local company $5.

I am replacing a paper one with it.

Someday, I will find a pre area code/ local company related tap and die chart.

Went back to the same yard sale again actually twice and both times I picked up a few things.

Bought this oil rag safety can for $2. It needs some body work.
View media item 86666
And bought this cool old side box with the bottom drawer full of sockets.
View media item 86697Anybody recognize it? I cant find a name on it anywhere.

I also bought some lifting straps, a new box of Forstner bits, a Stallone DVD, and a paper masking tool. Paid 15 for everything I believe.

Tonight I was able to get this 225# (2 cwt) John Brooks cast steel anvil in nearly unused condition. Probably from 1940s or 1950s is my guess. Let me know if you determine otherwise please. Oh and it came with a tight-fitting custom stand.

Nice looking anvil. I periodically look at them on Craigslist and it seems the prices have gone through the roof for them...even anvils that are all beat to hell are selling for ridiculous numbers.

Finally some nice weather so I can uncover the military cabinets I got last Thursday.

The first four pictures are the storage cabinets. They are not identical, the left one would sit on top of the right one normally. They must have been for some kind of large card file system.

The cabinets and drawers are all wood, the drawer frame is aluminum with rollers like a steel file cabinet. Each drawer ahs two lift out wood file boxes. They are supposed to have a retractable handle in the back but some are missing.

The drawer pulls are actually plastic and several are broken so hopefully I can find some metal ones that fit in the current holes.

I don't need this so after fixing the handles it will go up for sale.

The brown and white chest is actually the "TREASURE CHEST" I pulled out all of the nice axes and hatchets from. For only $6 it was coming home with me! It is wood with metal corners and bracing and metal handles on each end.

The lid would actually be bolted down. The only OD green paint left is the inside of the lid. This box will be a "keeper" for now.

It's not a tool, but I picked this up at a garage sale on the way home from work today. It's a Sears wall safe from the early 1950s (not sure exactly but the instructions had a date of 1952 and the serial number on the safe itself starts with a 54) At least the price was right. :) There's a fair amount of surface rust, but it will clean up okay.
