Wow, Smoke! You sure found a lot that I missed! Great finds.
Yes, I was. In fact, I don't think I've ever had that kind of simple ribbed knurling in my head as NB. That pretty much seals it. Either the box rusted out or the previous owner was not the first owner or who knows. Cool set either way.Outlaw & Provincial -
I think ThreeBay is correct. Those sockets are 1930s New Britain Machine. Maybe Lugz was thinking of a different era/style (with the cross-hatch knurl) when he said they didn’t look right.

Smoke, that P&C 4way is one of my unicorns also. Congrats

I have a reputation as a tool vacuum to uphold [emoji23] I gave it a good effort!
That might be one of the best compliments I have received on here is to be considered a tool vacuum!
FYI- you **** for that long c set still in the boiled linseed oil !

Unless I'm misunderstanding, it sounds like a switcheroogie is in order! It is weird that my Proto puller set is in a Proto LA box but isn't marked LA on the tooling, but yours is marked LA but the box is later...

Yeah, that was pretty much what I was thinking too. No need to do a switch, they are both bits of history. And use - though I doubt I will ever be pulling a hub at this point in my life...
But that swap was definitely a good one.
Outlaw, on the wood-box sockets, they look just like a set I have that I finally decided were Duro. I can't find the reference I used. The straight-line knurls and the dash, rather than the / in the fractional marking are the determining feature. These markings indicate that they are late 20's to early 30's.

This set was likely made in the early to mid 1930s, based on the inclusion of double-hex sockets but square rather than double-square sockets. Still earlier sets would likely have included hex sockets, and by 1938 the None Better catalog was specifying double-square sockets for this set.

I am really starting to wonder if it isn't Sears Robuck. Falls into the same time line as the WF contact and when Craftsman stuff was made by Plomb. Nice finds.I bought just enough at the swap meet today to fill a cargo pocket.
-most of a 3/8" narrow band sk socket set
-a 3/8" sk Diamond ratchet. I have too darn many of these, but they're always too cheap to pass up.
-3 small proto LA wrenches
- 4 ignition sized Williams "superrench's"
-long c doe
- metric craftsman ignition wrenches
- yet another "S.R." Socket. This one is a 7/16 in 1/2" drive.

I pulled some Ideal Ind Inc screwdrivers from yesterday’s purchase. The 1959 patent for the rubber grips is here. I noticed some had a socket in the handle. A few years ago I watched an electrician twist wire nuts using just such a technique, and had looked for one off and on in various stores. Getting a close-up look at this, it appears to be after-market. On the other hand, the bottom of the bore is flat, unlike a typical drill tip. Anyone know for sure?
Trying to get caught up from the last few weeks. Vises include a 4" 974 Parker, 4" swivel jaw swivel base, Prentiss with a strange base swivel pin lifter I haven't seen before, 4" Athol, 4" Wilton Shop King with pipe jaws, 3-1/2" Craftsman made in USA, 3" Reed I think I already posted here, and a clamp on that I thought might be a Stanley, but I guess it isn't. Last pic shows markings on top of the slide, anybody recognize it?

Has a No.52 showing. Anything match to this picture?

Wonder what that little logo means?
Cool logo.a pair of Berg side cutters with replaceable jaws that Google tells me they are for piano wire.
We proceeded to walk around and picked up a few misc wrenches and sockets and then he left but not before pointing out a plomb Los Angeles socket box. It needs straightened but all welds and hinges are intact! Scored that for $4 and am on cloud 9 as I have none. Next I bought the proto flying lady carry box 100r for $10 since I have wanted one for years even though someone stood on the crest and dented it
Got a nice proto slide hammer and a couple misc nos Mopar boxes since I am a big time Chrysler guy! Got a bunch of misc proto, plomb and p&c sockets and wrenches. Also got the sweet western giant made 1/2 ratchet that I believe is made by bog ? Also got a 3/8 drive rhft that I had to pony up for at $25 but the seller would not take less.
Also got one of my unicorns a p&c tire iron for $1! I have been looking for one for years!

Smoke, heck of a haul. P&C 4 way, Craftsman flex head, and a Western Giant! Darn good day.
Thanks, still can’t believe I got those quality items in just a few hours. Vise was my first pick and the proto la puller set was my last purchase from a tool seller who has decent stuff but is normally high priced. I negotiated him down to the price I wanted to pay and then left [emoji51] I only paid full price on the vise and the tire iron. Everything else I negotiated on
Rag- I am super excited to join the p&c lug wrench club! Now we just need to find you a p&c tool mobile

Hit estate sales in Lynnfield and Sudbury last weekend. SWMBO was interested in some high-level furniture. The house in Lynnfield did not look like it would contain such, but it turned out to be the family home of a recently deceased lawyer, and all his expensive stuff was inside.
Someone grabbed a decent vise off the workbench before my arrival. I found a 160 watt glue gun (Made in USA) which I've now tried, and it spits out copious amounts of hot glue. Should work better than my tiny China alternative. I walked away from an Indestro set, the kind where all the sockets fit on an "L" hex key. Have no real use for it.
