Because that software is proprietary. Part of the price tag for a pico is that the software development is included in that price. Honestly they've been more than generous making the software open to all. If some scumbag company came along and tried something like you speak of they'd lock it down and either start charging or require registration.

Its already bad enough companies like Autel copy pastes Pico program files but luckily for Pico the Chinese don't seem to care about making a truly competitive scope option (the Autel one is garbage).
The autel, is it that bad? I’m thinking of ordering one. The software seems better than the hantek.

It better than hantek software but it not as good as pico software .
If you not going deep into signal detail the pico 2000 series will do a lot and with great software & online knowledge base & at low budget .
You can save setups on the pico software and name them thus have presets for all common auto testing you do quick and easy . The other plus with pico software is ease of working with data you captured .

Pico 2405A (Not one of their automotive specific scopes)
• 4 channel
• 25 MHz bandwidth
• 500 MS/sec (divide by 4 if you are using all 4 channels)
• 4K samples
• suggested retail price $449

BOHICA ! :tantrum2:
Does if have access to the same software as their automotive series ?

Pico 4425 automotive (bare)
• 4 channel
• 20 Mhz bandwidth
• 200V max per channel +
• 12 bit resolution +
• 400 MS/sec (divide by 4 if you are using all 4 channels)
• 250M samples +
• suggested retail price $1,315

DOUBLE BOHICA ! :tantrum2:

Some nice features, but it should really sell for $400-$500 !

The autel and pico 2204 can I widen the screen to see more in depth like the 4425?
I will be using a scope mosty for relative compression, crank/cam signal, ignition coil primary et secondary, network communication, in cylinder compression pressure with pressure transducer.

The only difference between the auto specific pico software is the preset auto settings and you can program your own settings .
If you want 4 channel then it all over your budget, 2 channel pico is under 250bucks and do all you need plus has serial decoding and signal generator that pretty useful for mimicking a sensor . Have a look on youtube as should find few vids on a guy experimenting with a 2000 series and comparing to the auto version .
Is it over priced - yes , but not as much as snapon diag gear .
For pro use 1k is nothing if the tool good .

There are a couple of nice hardware features on the 4425 that I marked with a "+".

I've used 3, 2 you mention plus the sealey version, none are that great, it can make cheap start scope and does the job but I rather spend extra 150 bucks on the pico 2 channel as just way better in use experience and I trust the results more .
If hantek had copied the pico software it would be a steal ...

Why not a used Snap-On Vantage Pro?

I've seen them for ~$300. It's enough for auto repair. I haven't run into anything where it wasn't adequate yet. Maybe I don't do enough. :dunno:

where can you get one for $300??? people are asking that for the original vantage lol.. even more

Whats nice about the 2000 series is that you can really zoom in the graph, the autel and hantek you can’t do that.
Input range is only 20v so you need attenuator, the autel is 200v protection.

Yeh you need attenuator for some testing and resolution not as good but it very usable for general auto testing .

Hey guys I love oscilloscope!
I have quite a few
Pico 4424
Pico 4425
Snap on Verus
Old school Fluke 97
Mac Tools OTC 3840
LabNation Smart scope

Pico is hands down the big gun.
My Pico rig station is not exactly portable...
Pico is mainly used for in bay driveability trouble shooting
-ignition system test
-starting / charging system tests
- engine mechanical tests
- vehicle network troubleshooting
- fuel emissions system testing

The verus has to be the most portable
I use it out in the parking lot on dead cars for no start diagnostics
- starter amperage
- fuel pump amperage

The Fluke 97 I purchased for a good price from a colleague and I mainly use it for nostalgia factor

The mac otc 3840 stays at home in a drawer collecting dust

And the Labnation Smart Scope is my newest scope that I'm still trying to attach to an android tablet as a mobile rig

The smart scope is looking to be a decent 2 channel tablet based for somebody trying to get into scopes. It's relatively affordable.

The pico took me over a year to learn how to operate.
It is extremely powerful and very easy to get overwhelmed with. There is no comparing this scope to anything else on the market . Not even close!!!

I also briefly test drove a scope from ATS Escope

There's applications where each can excel at
