Seen it, What logo would the wrenches show for that board?

I wonder if my board has part numbers under flat black paint?

This board seems earlier than 1924 when the Oval logo was replaced.
That may be the best approach. One could compromise and use either the Brooklyn logo or the Forged logo.

If this board could somehow be dated prior to 1914, it would be quite a challenge to fill it with the "Early Brooklyn" (AA) logo.

Agreed. Prior to the three I found last week (see posts #517 and #518, page 26), I've only found a handful total.

I have accumulated about 40 or so over the years. All styles.
Williams sure got a head start making quality standardized wrenches.
Not surprising their part numbers were adapted by so many others.

They didn't call themselves the "Wrench People" for nothing!

That's good thinking, leg. I have never noticed one before, either, but it makes sense. W&B was headquartered in Akron, but had a drop-forge in Chicago, and that's the factory that the Williams officer ran after they acquired the drop-forge and wrench works of W&B. (W&B continued making twist drills, reamers, and screw extractors under their own banner.)

There is a BIN ebay listing for a 1925 McKinnon tool catalog that looks to have some interesting info /pics in it. including a Silent Salesman picture. Apparently, they acquired the Canadian division of J.H Williams.. whatever that means. I have nothing to do with the seller, just a heads up for those interested.

Here is a set of Adjustable Pin Spanners and Adjustable Hook Spanners.
All have the underline post-1924 logo.
I used them in the shop and around machinery, bearing nuts and things like that.
And, one with some patent info.

I picked up this socket case locally from a CL add. I've been trying to date it and determine what the contents may have been. The logo places it from the early 1960s. The latest catalog I have is #505 from 1963. At first I thought it might be an MC-4 case but the layout is a little different from the catalog and the dimensions are slightly different as well. The MC-4 case is listed as 19-1/2" x 5-5/16" x 1-3/8" while this one is 19-1/2" x 5-15/16" x 1-3/8". Anybody have any insight as to the likely year and/or contents?

Hi
I bought this little set in Denmark. It has never been used and still have the preservation grease on. I belive late 1940's
Strangely, the box have no marking or labels...
The set consist of:
B-51 Ratchet, marked with "The Superratchet" (making this late -40's to 50's according to AA site)
B-115 10'' extension, marked with "Made W U.S.A.".
B-110 5,5'' extension, marked with "Made W U.S.A."
B-140 universal, marked with "Williams U.S.A."
Sockets, 8 pcs all marked identically with W over U.S.A:
B-5/16'', B-3/8'', B-7/16'', B-1/2'', B-9/16'', B-5/8'', B-11/16'', B-3/4''

What would be the correct name on this set and am I missing any pieces?

Thanks,

Bill

I suspect a typo in the catalog. Do the catalog illustrations look noticably smaller (by 5/8") than the box?

My neighbor brought me this slightly rusty non-reversing 1/2” drive Williams ratchet. A little time in the evaporust improved it’s appearance. misterbill found one in his 1963 catalog. They seem to have offered this one for a long time. The green one pictured below was one of my first tool buys several years ago at the Tahoe flea market. That one obviously didn’t have a captive plug.

These wrenches are a little new for Wrenchguy’s board. :)

Williams Vulcan dual stamp metric open ends.

The difference in part numbers must mean they came from an earlier and later set, as I did pick them up in a couple groups iirc. Anyhow, it’s about time they see some daylight.

I’ve been collecting these Williams obstruction wrenches for a few years now. Recently, I came across a variation of the #2731 wrench which is typically sized 3/4” x 13/16”. The wrench I found was stamped with the Williams logo on one end and “2731 SPECIAL” on the other. No sizes are stamped on the wrench. When measured, the openings are 1” x 1 1/8”.

Nice special.

Thanks! I have another one I found a little while back that’s also stamped “Special.” It’s marked as wrench #2031, which is typically 25/32” x 7/8”. The one I have is stamped 2031, but the openings are 7/8” x 1 1/16”. Looks like Williams made a bunch of these. I wonder how many a company/purchaser would have to order in a “Special” size before Williams would make them?

Dang, that is special!

Your collection motivated me to start collecting these. So, I have you to thank.....or blame!

I've had worse labels applied to me! :lol_hitti

The jaws look a bit thin on that SPECIAL wrench. I'm wondering if they used the same wrench blank as the regular 2731 and just broached out the end bigger, rather than forge a whole other, larger blank.

If I had to venture a guess, I’d say it’s the standard 2731 blank and broached to the bigger sizes.

I recently found this 703 Williams wrench. I don’t collect these if anybody needs it for their collection.

Here is an old F50a ratchet. I think it must be pretty old because they usually have a b part number.
