The frustrating thing is finding an adjustable with a screw that has no slot - it's just a pin driven in with a friction fit. Can't get those apart!
Somewhere here, I found a post that says to whack it on a board, pin down. The sudden stop will help encourage the pin to move.

Obviously, do this over a box, in case the pin is really looser than you realize. On the 4”, you may need a cheater pipe to get the velocity up without mashing your fingers

If I am able to remove the screw, I disassemble the wrench to clean it. If I am unable to remove the screw, I just clean it up as well as I can. I found this 8” adjustable today and will start the cleanup soon.IMG_8672.jpegIMG_8673.jpeg

I was able to take this one apart after it came out of the evaporust. It needed a bit of work with some files for the jaw to totally close. I buffed up the polished chrome area. IMG_8711.jpegIMG_8712.jpegIMG_8713.jpegIMG_8714.jpeg

I've tried that method (arm movement accompanied by some choice bad words) with no success so far. Those little pins don't have a lot of mass to accelerate.

So I did not research this before posting but I bought 3 dirty ratchets for $2.00 total today at a Dearborn yard sale, a Husky Kenosha, a Bonney and this, which I thought was going to be a Williams by it’s shape.

One side says 528 and the other very clearly says 529. Pretty sure it's a 528 though. I think lugz posted a 529 at one point and it was a different size

I came across a J H WILLIAMS #438 face pin spanner wrench. I believe the spacing between the pins is 3 1/2”…
I won’t be using this tool, just adding to what I already own.
I do a quick search through some catalogs on the Archive site… the 1959 was too old the tool logo was different, the 1989 catalog picture didn’t match either. The 1976 catalog did look pretty similar so I’m going to guess that this tool was made in the mid 70’s.

Yes, I agree… I think there would be a lot of scraped knuckles as well as quite a few choice words spoken while the scraping was happening…

There is a groove in the left S-51 pawl. Was this done at the factory or by a previous owner. I disassembled about a dozen and never seen it before.

this junior silent salesman board came on f-b williams tool group last nite.
its important because enlarging it shows original wrench part numbers of the board not known on any list.
it looks to have original wrench hangers, though moved from their original location??

NRI Industrial Sales had it for sale at $428. Obviously I got it for less. The crate was damaged, so he deducted $25. I had to glue the sides back together and repair a broken piece of wood on the bottom.

Just got these from my dad, they were my great grandfathers I'm told. Going to find somewhere to display them. Really neat old extensions and L handle. I'm guessing 1930's ??? Any info on approx. Age would be neat.
