OK, now that the question above is out of the way, lets fish out some pics of the other vintage wood cabinets, chests and cases in the shop.
Not in a chronological, but rather how easily I can find the pix. The main shop storage for woodworking tools, a pair of salvaged Linen & kitchen cabinets, one from my 1st house, the other from a salvage yard. The saw till is a repurposed gun rack, right on the edge of vintage I'd guess. And no, the shop is nowhere near that clean, I had a garage party coming, so I cleaned a lot prior, and it lasted a week.
This one I bought just 'cuz I love the little ring pulls. Suspect it is user made, mostly due to flaws in the build. I've
cleaned it up here, put it back into service, but don't have a new picture.
This is my workhorse fastener storage case, bought for $40, but he wanted $50 if I didn't take the contents. Lots of ****
inside has mostly been thinned out, replaced it with vintage fasteners, and 1 or 2 drawers of modern fasteners.
These two came as a package deal, both boxes and their contents for $200. Story of the acquisition
here, was kind of a big deal for me.
Here is how they reside now, the bottom one is on a rolling cart to get access. Currently used to hold rehab project planes.
This one is ugly as heck, and someday may get cleaned up and put back into service. A CL find for cheap. Or put it out at the next garage sale.
This cute little thing (under 2 ft wide) was picked up at a flea market, and had a few design flaws. No handles, and the lock didn't work. When you picked it up in the logical place, you opened the lid. Found some vintage wood, and added a pair of rails under the lid to make it lift able. Still trying to make a key for it after many years. (Another one with no current picture.) This was going to be my traveling box, big enough for a #5 plane, panel saw, the bigger pieces I might take to someone's house for a small repair.
The leatherette covered Gerstner was bought for the machinist's tools inside, and I didn't realize it was a Gerstner til I got it home. Needs
major work, someone broke the front flap to get into it, some mold on the back and bottom.
And then the
recently acquired Union, similar to Lugz's, using his thread for guidance soon, now that the tools have been integrated into the herd. Posted this in the garage sale thread a few weeks back.
In the rehab category is this Lufkin (already repurposed once, need to make it useful again.
And this unknown cabinet, may just be a parts box at this point. (The metal boxes will get posted later, quite a pile in rehab now)
In the partway to vintage category (not shown), I have the tool storage I built under my workbench, cheap wooden knockoff, and a few repurposed wine boxes. I think that summarizes the wooden herd.
Thanks for looking
