I scored a good amount of plomb at a garage sale this morning. His is the second time since the plague started that I’ve found a sale and the second time I’ve found lots of the good stuff. Hope it’s a sign of things to come.

1236, 1232, 1218 x2, bent 1150, 1139, 1122, wf-83, 5449, 5466, 5260, 5020.
And a few unusual ones... a 7430h impact socket, a 1/2” firestone extension, and a grind off 1208 that looks a lot like a plomb, but must be a proto.

Good hunting Dan!

A couple more rope braids
Also the picked up an ultra rare D5 dated 1929 that has a fine diamond knurling. I cannot find this in the catalog but it is a 5/16" X 1/2" 6pt socket. The Ds are more rare than the DDs from what I have found.

D5 is a great pull.

Thank you X for that catalog reference. I was really excited about that one as well. Since this is my only example of a D series do you know if they are all made with the same pattern or did they make them in rope braid as well?

Without asking around all I can tell you is all but one of my examples and I only have like 7, are pretty much like yours with the crosshatch and either a 9 date code or none at all. I do have one of the larger sizes D14? that has an 8 date code and is a smoothie. No ropes on the 6 pts.

Picked up this super clean completely unbranded "WF-21" style rat in a box of miscellaneous junior drive tools at the flea market this morning. The only marking on it is that forged-in foundry mark "O" that shows up on WF-21, WF-8, and WF-8S rats. The only other Plomb piece in the box was a WF-75 swivel. It's funny. These are so commonplace anymore that they have probably reached a state of being unremarkable and undeserving of a post.

Back in 2017 I found this Plomb box at an estate sale. Since that time I’ve collected pieces to fill it up. My problem with the box is that I was unwilling to attempt refinishing it so I’ve left it alone. I spotted a replacement box on eBay and even though it was a little expensive, I thought that it was the perfect solution to my dilemma.

How about a "Full Set Friday!". Scored this 704 Plomb. This is the mid Utica sourced and I think was the 2nd of 4 variants of Plomb adjustables if memory serves me correct and circa 41ish. Alloy Artifacts refers to these as the "Web Like" panel. These are my favorite version of the 7XX Plomb series. Here is the full catalog! Now I have to start finding the 1st edition Uticas with the oval logo. Those are as rare as a hen's teeth.IMG_20200626_171417123.jpgIMG_20200626_171421794.jpegIMG_20200626_171502709.jpgIMG_20200626_171515787.jpg

I've never found one of that config Roy. Great find!

As you said, it is super clean though. Looks brand new!

Thanks, guys. The pictures looked good on eBay and fortunately it looks just as good in person. It’s like tools were never stored in it. It came with the too short speeder.

Thanks, OTG. I have quite a variety of 3/8” speeders from trying to find one to fit my wartime box. I’ll probably load up the old box with some 3/8” drive spares.

So there's a tool on ebay right now that the seller is tentatively advertising as Plomb but what looks like an owner's ID is actually the maker. An A.G. Cooper with a Los Angeles street address. Might be a good research project for someone who can do more than a google search.

I suppose it's possible that it's not a dolly but every other A.G. Cooper I've seen was a body tool. And in light of that, I can see how this could be one too. It is kind of unique though. You know, Jim in LaPine has/had? a A.G. Cooper hammer that would have been the equivalent of the Plomb 1416 but definitely different. It wasn't in the greatest shape as I recall...but still cool.

There was a DB error and it was unrecoverable, so Ryan had to restore from a 2-3 day old backup. he said there might be more restores coming, but no promises...

Standard modern ratchet for comparison. Cool to see with the webbing vs without.

Picked up some more rope DDs!

Also think i finally have a Plomb wrench count. No counting dual marked and having the following catagories. Also includes NAFs and WFs.
NPN pre 1928
LA
Smooth non LA
Pebble
Any new part number is counted. An example a Plomb 1212 wrench would have 3 counts for the LA, smooth, and pebble version of that wrench.
With that being said I have come up with 808 unique Plomb wrenches! That is a lot of wrenches! And I have a ways to go!

In the recent care package I received from bmwrd0 was an extremely rare NAF marked 1/4” spinner. Even though the handle is deteriorating these are so rarely seen that I will be happy to add it to my set with conventionally marked Plomb tools. I am only aware of the existence of four of the grey Plomb NAF boxes and I believe that only two of those are complete.

Here's some more of mine. 1/4" set in the box (with two different Philips driver bits) and PLOMB large screwdriver. All came from my dad.
