Here's some more of mine. 1/4" set in the box (with two different Philips driver bits) and PLOMB large screwdriver. All came from my dad.
Those are some early 1/4" stuff. The ratchet is pretty hard to come by in working order.

Another Full Set Friday! Thanks to TM for dropping a heads up on a 3065 smooth wrench! Picked it and it arrived today. Another check mark on the post LA smooth wrench set in DOEs, Combos, and DBEs! Seems the flood gate has opened up for some nice Plombs. Next target to laser focus on is a 1068 to finish out the industrial DBE set.

Also picked up this 1936 3/4" X 5/8" reducer. I have heard rumors that there is some 5/8" Plomb and Protos out there and never made in a catalog that I have found.

Also a pre 30 stud puller.

Should be about 10 away from 1kIMG_20200703_202032497.jpgIMG_20200703_202035714.jpegIMG_20200703_202040054.jpegIMG_20200703_202052599.jpegIMG_20200703_202120717.jpgIMG_20200703_202123337.jpgIMG_20200703_202126273.jpgIMG_20200703_202130310.jpg

Weekend score:

Plomb Large Gear Puller with case.

Unfortunately missing one jaw 4016.

Should come in handy next time I’m having trouble pulling the drums off my Galaxie.

Username alerted me to these sockets listed on eBay. I plan to add them to this wartime set. It will end up kind of a hybrid of the three sets shown in Catalog 19R

Very nice set. In the original wooden box as well.

I am only aware of the existence of four of the grey Plomb NAF boxes...
I have only ever seen them on the board here and both I think were yours!
This complete one belongs to a long time Plomb collector in Northern California and oldmantaylor posted his way back here.
Same as Roy, the only one's I've seen are Don's and now this one you shared that was oldmantaylor's. More Plomb envy!
Just so I am attenuating my envy in the right directions and proper magnitude, doesn't tin medic have a Plomb NAF midget set? And why do I consider his the ne plus ultra set out there for some reason? That is not a quiz. I am forgetting why. EDIT: Wait. Coffee kicking in. His is the only one that has the NAF numbers on the tools themselves? Was that it? Searching for it is nearly impossible.

I am now the proud owner of that set. It was missing one socket when Tin Medic found it and I was able to complete it after Tin passed it along to me.

^^^^So those tool boxes came with all that extra space and nothing to fill it? I always wonder about my tool boxes and if I fill them too much.(I am actually not joking here)
I'm nothing close to a purest, but I always wonder how full each box was for any given box size---how many tools did someone get if they bought this box new?

Plomb was pretty famous for this concept. It is like they designed them for expansion of more Plomb Tools! Most of the 1/2" drive boxes came with a whole extra socket tray.

Here are two pictures of my wartime 1/2” drive set. The first picture matches the set as shown in the catalog. The second picture is how it ended up.

How much did the set on the left set a person back if bought new? Thats actually a good set of tools, you could do some good work with it. Some sets I see seem kinda..,....skimpy.

EDIT: I found this 5295 a while back and here's what/how I filled it. This is my go-to box-O-tools for working on my cars and stuff so I needed a handy compact place to store them.
Second picture is how stuff is organized so it closes, 3 and 4 are whats in it. It is very versatile and does 85% of any job I need to do to my truck on a given job.

The closest I could come is the same set in Proto in 1950. It was $43.01 user net. I’m not sure what that translates to in 2020 dollars.

...some sort of naval set.
It's the same exact set (NAF Set No. 1108-1), just supplied by a different source than Plomb.

There's a classic GJ story behind this. On November 8, 2018, I found and posted a spinner and a sliding T on the 'Midget drive tools' thread, because they were abnormally fat and unmarked, linked here. A few weeks later, quite by happenstance, Odes posted a Phila Mfg. Co set he had found, linked here. Beemer immediately noted the resemblance to my fat spinner and sliding T, and within days it was confirmed that's what I had found. I identified the set as the same as the Plomb NAF sets from the NAF ASO Class 41 catalog I have. Then, in January 2019, you picked up your "oddball" set off eBay, linked here, apparently forgetting my earlier spinner/sliding T and Odes' set confirming their provenance. And I've been trying to talk you out of it with things from my collection and the kitchen sink ever since! :)

I wonder if any other sources will show up. My bet is yes.

Here is an excerpt from the NAF ASO Class 41.

Some more additions.
2 Power Drive Sockets a little over 1/2 way through the shallow set now. 5 left to go.
Also a Plomb 276 6" combo slip joint pliers with JP Danielson grips.

I also upgraded the lighting for the Plomb Wall and it has made a big difference.
Also designing some custom holders for adapters and ratchets to help densify the storage.IMG_20200706_181848116.jpgIMG_20200706_181853826.jpegIMG_20200706_181859249.jpegIMG_20200706_181913351.jpeg

I actually didn't know Plomb made impact sockets...
Yes and they are very hard to find. They made shallow and deep and the deeps are very rare. They also show in the catalog an 8pt but I have never seen one or heard of someone having one.

Thanks. Hope you are doing well.

They didn't make the entire line that was available in the late 40's all at once, though. I think the "Power" sockets and extensions were introduced in 1936 or thereabouts, in 1/2-inch drive only. They added 3/8-inch drive and then "Impact" sockets later. I could be wrong. I found a few several years ago and moved them on to a collector in Scotland if only as a novelty and that may have been the last time I really looked at them as a category.

I believe you are correct. They did add the 3/8" later and I also forgot about the extensions, universal joints, and swivel sockets that they offered. There must be north of 50 impact pieces they had in their offering before the change to Proto.

Another BAW for the Plomb board. Weighing in at 7lbs flat a 3572 2-1/4" single open end wrench. The 2nd largest size Plomb made for this series. Check out the thickness of the open end (1")!IMG_20200707_162720734.jpgIMG_20200707_162726324.jpgIMG_20200707_162729685.jpgIMG_20200707_162816166.jpeg

Finding Plomb of any type in the wild in my neck of the woods pretty much equates to a Loch Ness monster sighting so I was pretty stoked to find this partial 3/8d crows foot set in a zip lock baggy for 8 bucks at a local junk consignment dive today. A 1" Proto LA crows foot was cohabitating with them.
