I tried searching but didnt come up with too much...

For those of you who use the blue shop towels in the garage, what kind of holder do you use? I seem to be only able to find the cheap collapsible white plastic ones... They seem to always snap at the hinge after a few change outs.

Are there any stores that sell metal ones?? Ive check my Lowes, Target, Walmart... no luck... all cheap plastic ones...:shocking:

EDIT: i meant to put this in the garage discussion... but i guess it could be considered a tool too...

I found this one at WalMarts. I think I paid $4-5 for it and it's stainless. Made for the kitchen but works well in the shop.

I made one from a piece of 2X4 and a 1" piece of PVC Pipe. It's built under the top of my tire rack. All I have to do is to pull the pipe out to install/reinstall a new roll. It's been there a year now and works great. Sometimes cheap is good.

I can't remember where I got mine but it's probably Walmart or Target. It's a sturdy white plastic one that the nubs that hold the roll in are spring loaded. You basically push it in and it springs into the holes. If you want to take it out, you just push it towards the back. The nubs collapse in the spring out after the rolls out. I've had it for over six months with no issues. Works great and it was inexpensive.

If you want something sturdier I think HF has a holder that's metal and magnetic.

I'm with Jeeper, I have a few of these exact holders placed around the garage; they work great and are very sturdy!

The best thing is it's SUPER easy to change a roll, or pull it off to take with you and put back on later. Just pull the roll straight up (or push back if you've mounted it under a cabinet) to click the roll out.

Easy to use, cheap, and sturdy! :)

Ever thought about using one of the vertical ones?

You can make one out of an old mop handle and a scrap piece of wood.

Also...you can always feed a bungee cord through the roll and hook it on the shelf.

Lastly...there is always a Harbor Freight solution. :)

I use the one from Simplehuman, $20 bucks, available various places online. The end comes off with a squeeze, can be mounted in any orientation, the roll never comes off, it is a great design.

I made one out of galvanized pipe. Attached a flange to the side of a wood shelf unit, screwed a 12"piece of pipe into it,slipped on a rollof towels then added an elbow and a cap to keep it from sliding off. Cheap and sturday as can be.

Just bought one of these and it works well. Bought it at lowes. It's easy to change and because it can only be loaded from top (the spring loaded tabs prevent roll coming out from bottom) it the roll can't pop out when pulling on the roll for a sheet.

This is the one I was refering too in my post above. Very sturdy and no issues whatsoever.

what type of shelf is this and where did you find it? I like the look of the polished treadplate as a backsplash with the stainless shelf/towel holder and would love to do something similar on my utility sink.

Thanks!

I buy the BIG Kimberly Clark Wypeall (sp?) towels and I got the Wypeall branded holders last month when MSC had a "maintenance products" 35% off sale and free shipping at the same time. They are very sturdy (one handed tear-off works well).

The end bracket on there looks like a bracket I bought at Ikea. I'm not sure where the shelf is from.

I have a black Charbroil magnetic paper towel holder on my box from Sears closeout, and a spring loaded chrome stamped holder between my garage doors. The simple Charbroil holder works better than the spring job and doesn't fall off the box. I figure I'll replace both of them with one of those "perfect tear" types when I get around to fixing up my storage situation with more permanence.

Don't have experience with this, but I bought a few things in that "series": the Blue Point trays (black) and a bottle/can holder (2 holed version) and I was really impressed with the quality. Nicely formed sheet steel and the magnets are good. The trays are really sturdy. At $10 a piece I didn't think it was too bad. The can holder was a bit too much for my taste, something like $28 but it's good quality at least.

Exactly what I was thinking. It's surprising everyone doesn't use this method as it can even be done with old takeout fittings, auction junk in the bottom of a box and other such cheap resources.

I have a sturdy plastic one that has a hook on it to hang vertically from a water pipe... it dangles up there just out of my way and is easy to reach when I want it. Think I must have gotten it at Home Depot from near where they keep the towels.

I'm using this one that I got from Amazon. About $13. The magnets are nice and strong and it sticks to the end of the box fine. The wire construction isn't the sturdiest, but it gets the job done.

I 2nd the Gladiator one. Didn't think i'd be to impressed with its holding capability but it holds fine even with the harder tears for the shop towels. Plus got it right where it needs to be for wipping off tools and the like.

I have the gladiator one and it is terrible for the blue shop towels. I had to use regular ones. It kind of binds and then when you pull, the roll would come off. It was no fun, I just use it as a storage shelf now. It was a closeout at sears one time, I think I paid $5. I use the rubbermaid ones from lowes, they are awesome. I feel like they are the best for the money.

I have the gladiator one. It doesnt really have a cross bar. the sides hold it in with pressure so it has a chance of taking the roll off like the post above says. It's OK but try to get it one sale. Its too expensive.

Some of the magnetic ones that are mentioned in this thread look nice.

I wish I had space for this:

I was looking at it and at one time they sold a similar item at costco's website. They dont anymore.

I got this one from Amazon, and I've been happy with it. It's sturdy, and it has a ratcheting resistance mechanism in it so that you can't unspool the roll when you give it a strong tug. It's actually very easy to tear one sheet off (or two, whatever you want) with one hand. And $12.99 isn't super cheap, but it won't break the bank either.

It can be mounted vertically or horizontally. Since this picture was taken, I've changed it to an angle, since some types of paper towels would uncoil downward when there was a breeze in the garage.

I have a simple one that hangs on a hook above my bench. I like it because I can take it to where ever I am "making a mess".
