I packed up Friday's Powder **** for pending delivery to its owner in Ohio and rearranged a few things in the shop to accommodate an ancient but new-to-me Montgomery Ward powder storage freezer. (It was sitting outside my favorite machine shop looking lonely and unused when I dropped off Billy's tractor parts and it got to come home with me when I picked them up.) Anyway, here's the **** ... it's not likely anyone's going to get as excited about the old freezer as I am. LOL

For some reason this pic here -- my first ever custom alternator bracket :D -- is the most accurate color-wise out of the whole photo spread. The Corsair Gold looks MUCH more yellow than it really is but in reality is almost a dead-on match for Caterpillar yellow. You can see the customer's paint sample above the bracket.

And this morning, at long last, I get to start on my first Garage Journal customer's parts. :D Hmmmmm, let me say that a bit louder .... "Hey Larry!! It's finally your turn doll!!" Yeah, poor guy's been waiting on me for awhile. I hope to do it lots of justice.

OOoohhhhh....small block mopar parts, my fav....the color, not so much :dunno: But its not mine either. I would like to see it all together though. Always like to see guys going away from the stock colour.

Based on on your other work, I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Put tools away from redecorating my study and building a built in desktop and shelves. Had to finish it (albeit with a few bits and bobs left to do) before christmas as the entire contents was stacked at the back of the lounge where the christmas tree needed to go. Just about to finish up fettling the downstairs toilet as the syphon had spat out most of the plastic diaphragm washer and so flushing it was becoming an art involving several pumps and a flourish at the end. Now its back to silky smooth with a new diaphragm but it was a right PITA to do as it's a concealed cistern so getting to it involved dismantling half a cupboard. Then the tools can go away until after christmas.

Thanks for the kind words yesterday guys!! I worked so late Billy was already in bed and I didn't want to risk the wrath of firing up the computer ... the 5 hp air compressor 50 feet away outside the shop doesn't disturb his slumber, but those two little teeny beeps sure do. :D

As an aside, the Offy/Holley customer called too. "You know how I've been checking my email at the library since my computer's in the shop? Well, I saw my Powder ****. I had to leave the library because I couldn't get the swelling to go down." LMFAO! God I love honesty ... I guess he likes it.

More details?

Usually the no-spark issue is the HES.

Jim

Jim

I understand from My research that it is usually the HES but this bike appears to have other issues.

Owner replaced the HES and the coil with used parts without any change.

He trailer'ed it here, I found His original coil and the used one He installed were both bad, put on a coil that tested good still no spark.Have tested the old HES and the one now installed on the bike with a diy led tester they appear ok and do realize that this test is not definitive.

As it sits now I have found low voltage coming from the motronic to the HES. I have a used motronic on the way. The owner never tested any parts just installed My thoughts at this point is, it was the coil from the start but it unfortunately took the motronic along with it.

It is not impossible for the Motronic to be bad, but is unusual. When you turn it over do you get a fuel pump sound? If you hear it when you turn on the key, pull one of the injectors and turn it over. If you get a spray of gas your motronic and HES are likely good and it is a coil.

Last night I helped my son install his new foot pegs and grips on his Street Bob and put a coat of epoxy sealer (DP48) on some parts for my Wide Glide.

Made a welding cart for my MIG setup. I hadn't welded in *years* and to say I was a little rusty would be an understatement. Some ugly, ugly beads were laid down today. :lol_hitti

But the end result was functional if not beautiful and it was good practice for some projects I need to do this winter.

Total cost was under $60 at Home Depot. I probably could have done it cheaper buying from a proper metal fab shop.

The Flag Pole at my Mom's home place got bent by the wind. I didn't realize it had gotten as bad as it had, so I turned some bushings from brass round stock and put three sections together. 3.00", 2.00" and 1.5" stainless tubing for a total of 20 ft' high. My Dad and I put the new pole up the day after Thanksgiving.

I got 'volunteered' to work on my uncle's 64 T-Bird convertible. It used to be my dad's, he sold it to my uncle 25 years ago.

My uncle had an old mechanic replace the turn signal cam and harness apparently, he couldn't find the right harness so he used one from something else. I have no idea what. He pigged the wiring in at the bottom of the column, and then nothing worked (no radio, heater, power windows/top, nothing) and my uncle was flustered.

So he had it brought to my place and had a neck of a time figuring out what was going on. Nothing matched on the schematics I could find. I finally figured out he used a harness out of something else and started tracing everything out.

Notice all the cut-off/trimmed connectors above.

I'm not done, but I have a handle on the wiring problems, I think. Then he wants me to put on all new weatherstripping, fix the gas leak (I thinks it's the carb)

IMG_5124_zps7a23408a.jpg

It's very clean original car, ZERO rust, hasn't been hacked on (except for the mentioned steering column harness). It was repainted once, and it's a 20 footer now. Needs restored….by me when my uncle sells it to me

IMG_5125_zps53b5effd.jpg

My uncle wants to pay me for all this. Instead of money, I think I'll make him promise to sell it to me if he ever decides to instead.

The original seats. The car has 95,000 on it. I do like 64 T-Birds.

Took some all thread, made some posts, a long 2x4, and made a belt rack for the deck belts at work. Organized my tool box, cleaned up a spot for the new mechanic, and swept the shop for a little bit.

Made a mold and poured Urethane for an unobtainable clutch rod boot for a 1969 full size Chevrolet. Found a NOS boot (finally) and used that to make the mold.

Yesterday I hung a new shelf in the garage to put our motorcycle helmets on and then my son and I worked in the shop all day on our Harleys. What an awesome day. He mostly worked on his bike while I watched and we talked. It was great to be able to spend a full uninterrupted day in the shop with my son talking about anything and everything.

Looking back afterwards and realizing I didn't get much accomplished, really didn't bother me.
