I introduced this K11 Master Handikit back on post http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5722933&postcount=5620
and had pretty much dismissed it as a awkward curiosity.
But multiple, wiser members swerved me into looking for it again today, while I was in Lancaster, and lo, thar she blows!
In 1937, the price new was $7.45 (east of the Mississippi). I paid about four times that (and got a set of five Barcalo wrenches in a holder and a Bonney LD18 socket, too), not nearly what inflation would make it ($125).
A Thunderstorm while getting it home decided how to clean it up. Now drying under a fan.

Considering how Pristine that is, all things considered (I can only HOPE to be in that condition at 79!), you stole that puppy!

I wouldn't have bought that one either, my interest in the other one is because I'm an aircraft mech :)

erm... what ya think shipping might run for that box from Lancaster PA to Lancaster CA?

I looked at shipping USPS. 2-day is like Outlaw says: $105. 3-day is about half that. "Retail" ground is about $45.
I didn't ever measure it, but the 1930s-40s Snap-on catalogs have their branded version's specs about 10-1/2 pounds, 7x8x16" if I guessed the right match. I figured 10x10x18"dimensions for a shipping box.

'Course the only real difference between this box and any other Duplex is the engraved aluminum plate. I failed to find out who Skipper Scheule was, and I have no idea what AOX39 might be, but I did read that in the early days, students actually built their own planes. Maybe this was a graduating class presentation to a favorite instructor? I'm heading out to St. Louis, and my sister works at SLU. I'll see if I can do any research on it while I'm there.

Looks good. I really like the look of the drawer handles from that era, not just on Snap-on, either, but others too. Lots of great-looking rollers and top-boxes on this thread.

I agree with LesserSon. Nice pulls.
They are much like the pulls on my Rem Line and Powr-Kraft boxes.
Very comfortable approaching from above or below.

As you can probably tell from my box-handle photos above, I can tolerate a lot of 'patina' :) so please don't take this suggestion as any sort of criticism, but that box of RedVice's might shine up quite nicely with some No.7 polishing compound. I recently tried some on my old Sun tester and was delighted with the results. It does remove a little paint (very little), but it also really evens things out and did wonders on some of the stained paint. (which I had already cleaned using Simple Green)

This is a Dunlap box I bought, the previous owner must have had it with his tools being dirty and misplaced.

ALL: just picked up a Snap on small roller. i don't know a lot about it and it was too dark to take more pictures last night so if there is any interest i'll take more pics and it's actually a brighter blue (think florescent) than the picture shows. it was red and the prior owner worked in a body shop so took it apart and painted it but not a super job because i can see red paint in some areas on the undersides of some of the drawers.

i'm guessing 60's or do tell? BTW it's pretty heavy compared to a few other rollers i own from other companies in the same era.

Just picked this up on a whim and I love it!

I wonder if this box was used in the actual shop. Seems like it may have been. That stick looks like it has been on there for a loooong time and was placed with intention. I like it is a nice piece of history. I can't find any info if Craftsman had a contract or was used exclusively by the proper shop, but regardless, it is going to be used by my vintage New Britain ratchets :)

That box is mid 50's at newest. Cruise collecting snap on.com.

Love it. I phoned the guy about this box but he would not bite at $30 which was what I had to offer. Glad it went to a good home!

See my post 6015 in the page before this one. I just picked one up too...painted red. I think it is from 1945-1950s.

Adrian: cool looking box. i have a lot of old Hamilton cabinets so wondering if they might have made those old Craftsman heritage boxes too.

Mike and Bob: thanks for the information about my little Snap on roller and i'll take a few more pictures of it in the sun and show you the bright blue that the old owner painted it. i'm guessing he owned it for 20 years and maybe inherited from his dad or gramps, but moving into an apartment to get his family in a better area he didn't have any room to keep it.

Found this one a while back, found it interesting, with the not so ordinary slide out trays......anyone know who made it? There are no marks or decals on it, the seller knew no details either and said it came from a garage sale.

That box is awesome. Not sure how nice it would be to use on a daily basis but I definitely would take one, if only for the coolness factor. I've never seen something remotely like it.

There's one up for sale around here that I have been eyeballing. It appears to have a Made In Canada sticker.

My hunch is that if it's Canadian, it's a vintage Beach or SPG International. The slides might give some clues about that.

How heavy is it?

It weighs in around 10-12#. I was kind of thinking Beach, from the design of those slides (and release finger), but was hesitant to put that out there up front.

My plans are to remove any dings, to refinish it, and use it to store all my spare sockets, etc. It might not be the ideal every day box for working out of.

I too, watched this one, for a few days. Working in my favour were the seller's crappy 'phone pictures and I am positive most viewers did not see that unique pull out tray arrangement. Fortunately, when I was ready to go and get it, it was still there....it was a couple of hours away.

Please post details of yours (that is, after you close your deal). I have searched all my pictures,, as I vaguely remember seeing a similar tray set up before, but could not find one.

Here are some before and afters of a KRA-352 I picked up a couple of years ago and did some periodic work on. Just finished up a week or so ago, and still looking for a replacement slide or two to replace a couple of sticky/slightly bent ones with. Drawers all work, just need a little effort on one of them.

The last photo is what it'll serve as from here on out-- the TV entertainment cabinet.

Very nice job. I find the chrome logo of the 1960's were the best looking in Snap On's history.

If it IS a Beach, than I want one a thousand times more. However, I have a few (not all, obviously) Beach catalogues and have researched Beach (the resources are limited however) and have never seen anything like it.

I'm a huge Beach fan and my main box is a B89 12-drawer roller with B29 12-drawer top box. Also have a B213 3-drawer portable box on my workbench. And a few Beach carry boxes scattered around. I do, but it takes all my willpower, to not buy every single Beach I come accross at yard sales.

Heck, even my petty cash box at work in my desk is from Beach. ;)

Do you have a complete 1971 catalogue?

A while back I saw at a garage sale, a box that looked a lot like #2221 like this sheet, but did not take it away. It looked like it could have been from the forties.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=90073
I'm going to save those scanned pages. We have a Gray Tools (Beach made) toolbox at the farm up north. I can never remember to take a picture of it when I'm up there.

The B213 I have is much the same as the Gray 2221 but it has 3 drawers instead of 2.

I also have another old 2 drawer toolbox at home that I suspect might be Beach, but it might be pre-Beach also, keeping in mind Beach started in '49.

I'll attach a picture of the B213 after a quick cleaning when I brought it home and also my main stack when I brought it home.

Got it!

It's not a Beach. It is a Flaherty, sticker says it's made in Hamilton Canada, assuming Ontario. There is also a faint Patent Pending stamped in black on the hinged lid. So, maybe there's info about these boxes / the company somewhere in a patent filing.

If this box fits behind my metal lathe, it will be a new home for tooling. Otherwise, I'll use it for semi-portable tools.
