BD: somebody said (maybe it was Balane) that Wilton bases fit Parker vises, but i'm not certain. also another option might be UNION vises that was the company that took over Parker's vise inventory.

another option to having 360 degree access to your big Parker is to build a stout stand that you can put anywhere in your shop. check out the vise stands thread in fabrication if you might want a few ideas on a stand or even a hitch mount from both sides of your workbench might be another option.

good luck

I should have joined a while ago...been reading much here for a while. Seems there are some great guys and gals here. I joined and want to say hi!

I just picked up a Wilton 5" on E bay that has a broken (poorly repaired) dynamic jaw...it hasn't arrived yet...don't really know if I have a future restore project or a parts out vise.

When it gets in I'll post a pic and the details.

Nice to meet you all.

Welcome eddie
Thanks for dropping by. Go ahead and post pics of your vise. Hopefully it will be worth saving. I know how costly it is to ship heavy things we buy on ebay. Is it a bullet by any chance? I have a 5 inch bullet on my bench. It's my "user".

One angle I have played is to bid on big heavy things that are close enough to pick up in person to save on shipping. Many times bidding is low because shipping is so high. I scored a nice 4 inch Hollands double swiveller nearby for $89 because shipping was so high for everybody else.

It arrived today...now I have to figure out how to post pics.

Thanx for the info, Great idea about the local pick up...I only paid $85.00 total including shipping.

It is not a bullet.

I have part of a old Wilton Vise. Interested in trading for small USA vise. (will give extra cash for right vise) Local pickup/trade only due to weight of vise. Southern Indiana preferably 30 miles or less.

First what I need:

Craftsman 5" Jaws for a model 506-51811 they are hard to find because of the mounting holes being off centered toward the bottom, pretty sure this is a columbian made model

Pic is with the bottoms together

Extra parts I have:

Athol 624 main nut
Athol 624 swivel base bolt, also have the swivel base but it was welded on to the vise I can cut it off if you want it you would just have to grind down the welds and there is no locking handle on the base

I recently moved into a house where the previous owner left me a bunch of stuff. There are two vises that I would like to complete as they are missing parts.

The first is a Parker 88 it is in nice condition but it is missing the pipe jaws.

The second is a Columbian 604-1/2 M2, this one was frozen for months but it finally broke free. This one is also very nice and it is cleaning up really well with a wire wheel, but it is missing the swivel lock and nut.

Would anyone have the parts for either one of these?

Does anyone have a BROKEN (YES BROKEN ) swivel base available for a 5 or 6 inch Rock Island or other high grade brand (ie, heavy and dense casting material ) vise ?

I want to gain a good mounting ear and enough metal to experiment with some precision grinding abrasives and filling ugly cosmetics with some NiRod X55.

The ultimate goal here is to remove and restore my Rocky 577's old base and give it to Packard V8 so he can finish his 577 project ! By practicing on some scrap first, I'll have a much better chance when doing surgery on the real patient.

I will reimburse for shipping (and desired scrap value) costs.

Thanks! Shawn

Looking for a lock down bolt assembly for a Craftsman 51858 6in bench vise or if someone can provide dimensions of the lock bolt assembly (to make my own) or a place to purchase a suitable replacement.

I picked up my first Athol vise but it's missing the swivel base/lock. Does anyone have a lead on a Athol/Starrett swivel? I'd really like to bring it back to it's original glory considering it' a Mass made vise.

I have a Samson 5206 that was froze up but came free with a little effort. What I found inside was a broken main nut. Two questions; would welding the two pieces of the nut back together allow for usual use of the vise or would that be a "weak link" just waiting to erupt? Second, does anyone have said nut? It is marked with 73-93 D. I will attempt to attach photos of both the vise and the nut. Thanks.

I'm in need of a Reed 104r split nut in particular but whole screw/handle might be ok- any ideas what other size reeds would be compatible?

You'd need to find a 104R, 204R, 304R or 404R or maybe a 2C. I don't believe a smaller, or larger model will have the same split ring. I have a 204R and 204 1/2R as well as a 2C with the flattened spindle (like most of the R models have) so I can compare tomorrow. A few of the R models do have a round spindle, as well as a split nut, but I'm not sure if the size was the same.

Looking for a swivel base for a Columbian 144. Mine is a 144 -A but I believe the letters don't change the base size. (could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time).

Looking for a swivel lock assembly for a Columbian 604 M2 (newer versions should be the same). They are available new, but the lowest price I found was $79 plus shipping...more than I paid for the vise!

Shoot me an e-mail at [email protected]

Looks like this:

If anyone knows the whereabouts of a Rocky 571 nut and/or leadscrew I'm game. I'm missing the dovetail nut and my screw is severed in half. I'm already aware of the $15 beater vise on Stockton Ca CL, but his is much older (ball snout ) and I don't believe it would fit. Mine has the marshmallow snout and is very light duty.

TIA,

Shawn

Band: there have been several members repairing that sort of damage on similar age vises. a young member just filled his American Scale vise's jaw ledge that was missing with braze weld and he's going to mill it to work like it should.

several ways to fix it, but if you don't have the equipment or skills paying to have it done isn't cheap unless you have a friend or a savvy machinist welder that also has a love of saving these old vises.

here's the link for the Vise Repair 101 thread and you might want to post it up over there.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=252830

just curious why you removed the jaws cause they looked pretty decent? also did the jaw break maybe when you tried to get the pin out?

good luck

Band: it also might not be a FATAL flaw if you just want to put it back together and use the vise. there are a few methods of fixing that also don't involve machining and welding you might want to try cause those old Parker vises don't grow on trees.

or as you say you might make another member's day that maybe has his grand dad's Parker needing a few parts that you could sell, trade or give him to make his work like it should.

good luck

Bandito, I'm pretty sure your 995 is the later version of the Big Bear vise from about WWII on.

The main screw head is a good indicator as the earlier versions (with a different series Mod. No.) had a round ball head. the cylinder was cheaper/quicker to make and the war years saw a lot of ease of Mfg. changes.

1930's and earlier versions were the 235 (swivel base, 134, 135 for he stationary), and had the round head.

Is the nut broken/stripped, or is it just sliding back and forth in its slot ?
The picture makes it look like it's sitting far back in the slot like the retaining pin is missing or broken off.

No it's missing, i got it from my grandpa and he misplaced it somehow. But the pivot screw in the bottom is so bent that I can't get it out unless I was to cut it. Is it meant to be that way?

No, the screw should be tight but straight. It sounds like that vise was used hard, no offense to your grandpa intended.

To fix it, you may have to keep your eyes open for a donor vise.

Ok that's what I figured. I really appreciate your help, and no offense taken, I'm positive he found this one already broken at some flea market. It'll be a nice vice once I'm done. Thanks again.

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'm looking for a swivel base, center screw, and locks for a Columbian Hardware 206. Also have a 205 that needs the same.
Thank you
