Probably hard to attract attention from Joe's monster 10" pic, but here goes:
Keven and Carla, thanks for the tries, and I have some responses for you.
The company is still in business, but I'm not sure if the company is Dapra and the line is AllMatic, or if Dapra is a re seller. It was HARD to find any price sheets but this thing retailed for $2361 as of a year old price list!
AllMatic HD 125(MM - 5") - they also made a 100 (4") and a 160. 6.3")
Kevin, the splines are really just a grip and it does have a a mechanical "pressure magnifier" and it somehow has presets for the amount of pressure it can make.
It's missing the crank handle, (Hex drive - available as parts) but truthfully its not needed! I used the added mechanical "secondary" with an added twist of the wrist and went from Snug, to this easily:
The pics are deceiving, but the crush was 1/8" overall... I was impressed as it was effortless!
On the Angle Lock, I'm not sure, as they don't seem to have a lot of descriptive details (maybe if I find a manual?)
Kevin you asked about mounting - it has two mounting slots for bolts centered, one at each end and it has 20mm slots for guide bars. (my Clausing has 1/2" slots so I'll want to find/make a pair of 20mm-.500 guides).
Carla - Based on the 100/125/160 (mm) model numbers and the fact that the guide bar slots are 20mm, I'd have to say this vise is technically metric, , even though made in the US...
The second cross slot won't do me any good, as the mill table is only 6" that way, so not an option.

The threaded holes in the static jaw puzzle me. its from the factory and I had a thought it might be to convert it to a huge angle vise, but the only other mount option I found was a swivel base.

Also in German so maybe ts German made? More research...
It should clean up pretty nice, and I think for a $50 initial investment, plus a 3 hour round trip, and a half tank of gas, and a $5 toll I did OK!

Well, I'm new here. Love old tools, especially vintage wrenches, ratchets, and precision instruments. In preparation for a potential move, I've been sifting through the shop trying to mentally prepare for self inflicted chaos. I dragged a couple vises out from the dark, ones I never paid much attention except to use haplessly. There was never much interest in vises so I have little historical or value knowledge. After about 10 seconds of "should I donate or should I research", I chose the latter. Glad I did, as it looks like the one attached has some value.
Here is what I think I know:
-Wilton Bullet Vise: mid '40s
-Model #4
-Jaws measure 4 x 1/2 x 5/8 inches.
-Underside of swivel base has two numbers: 134 and 2
-Spindle is smooth
-The slide rail is stamped 10-45. I've seen conflicting info on what this date means.
-I dont think its a repaint, but no reference to confirm. This was my grandfathers, who brought it home from Rockwell International when he retired (Built the B-1B Lancer) He was not known to refurbish anything but furniture and guns. And you don't paint guns.
-I cant find any other numbers on the body, base, or underbelly.
Can someone help? Try not to get me too interested, I dont have the time

I was just looking through the 1936 Atlas catalog and stumbled across something I've never seen before: machinist bench vises with the Atlas name on them. If you download the catalog in this link

Snap-On That is a very nice vise (and yes I am biased as I have a number 3 patent pending
). It is one the earliest Wilton bullets models with the patent pending inscription and which were manufactured from around 1942-1945. I believe the numbers other than the date number on the key are all part numbers. I do not think there is 100% definitive idea of the original color but there was some consensuses that might have been some kind of gray/light green. Your vise might or might not have original paint because while I think there are baby Wilton's with painted anvils, I am not sure of some bigger bullets also had painted anvils. I am also wondering about the painted swivel acorn nuts, as painting a swivel nut that needs to be tightened and loosened using a wrench and as a result have its paint scratched does not make much sense.
Overall you seem to pretty much know all the important information about this vise, so is there some other information that you are looking for?

I picked up a second Stanley SW 741. This one is complete and in near perfect condition. It only has the 1-28-08 patent date so I'm going to assume manufactured between then and the 1915 patent date that appears on many of these as well

6 months ago I had one 4" Simplex vise that I had been happily using for 10 years...now I probably have 10 vises, only one that I use.

chris: Stanley Rule and Level and Stanley Works were two separate companies until they merged in 1920. At that time the new company started using the sweetheart logo. It was used until about 1934. As with all things Stanley, those dates are not exactly firm. I did see one note that Stanley Works had used the heart with initials SW for a couple of years before the merger and of course Stanley continued to sell old stock after the Sweetheart logo was discontinued. There is really nothing special about Sweethearts but that distinctive logo does help in determining a date range for the tool. It's a nice vise so congrats to you.

Did a quick and dirty resto on that Morgan I picked up Saturday night. I had almost settled on yellow with black on the lettering and the star when I remembered that the old military trucks had a white star. So I picked up the closest thing Home Depot had to OD Green and put two coats of primer and three coats of Deep Forest Green by Rust-Oleum.

That looks great! I’ve been considering Rustoleum 2X greens like sage and oregano. I’ll have to take another look at deep forest.
