Man im really impressed with some of their tools. Ill be ordering some of their metric standard and deep impacts on the westling style rail for about 70$dollars with the 10% discount

So $125 for a metric set. That doesn’t seem so bad. Any alternatives out there besides Horusdy on Amazon?

I've got some of the Snap-on versions of these style wrenches and they're some of my favorite wrenches. So useful for suspension/alignment work.

Genius was the best lower priced (non tool truck brand) for quite awhile but, there's some overlap with their metric wrench sizing that, the Capri set avoids.

JTC Auto Tools is another option but, they also have some size duplication and I think they're up to $120 something on ebay. I picked up a set at SEMA years ago for like $75 and they've served me well. :beer:

The site says these have SmartKrome....kinda seems like they ripped off the marketing of some other company with initials identical to the snazzy word itself, eh?

I think Capri is a brand to watch. A lot of their stuff looks really nice, pricey for Asian-made but they seem to be coming out with some nice stuff.

I can let you know next week poppakap. I suspect (hope) the box end of the capri will be a bit thinner since they don't have to beef it up to support the flex and ratcheting mechanisms.

It seems like every time I stop by the capritools.com web site, they're releasing new product. This week they released long pattern zero offset boxed end wrenches in sets or open stock. These look like the Genius as said. Genius skips 11mm and duplicates a few sizes; no issue for me. Both are machined out of bar or plate, not forged. Also fine. The only issue is the beam edges are not rounded- not comfortable to use, unless maybe you're wearing leather gloves. The Genius have held up perfectly, no issues, so these should be the same.

Edit: another to consider is the Tone M05 series on Amazon.jp; these have more comfy beams

Agreed. The Capri/Mountain wrenches do nothing for me personally, plus the size pairings are off which irks me. I'm going to pick up a Tone M05-2224 or a KTC M160-22X24 next time I place an order with Amazon.jp, both in my cart...

What a waste. The first 4 sizes should have been paired like SnapOn's 106FLIPSET.

I have no idea why you would need a 8x9 mm XL wrench.

The Tone M05 are nice. The finish is good, but towards functional, not GJ microscope perfection like Snap On. Beam chamfers appear to be done by hand on a belt sander, so don't expect perfection.
The beams are not thick rounded fatness like Williams USA, but better than Genius. Comfort level difference increases greatly between Tone and Genius as the wrench size increases. In the 17x19, the Tone is waaaaay more comfy than Genius.

Honest question. I'm just a DIYer but can't recall ever coming across a situation where a 12X13 wrench, for example, wouldn't work. Can someone enlighten me?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "wouldnt work" but the size pairings in that set are bad.

9/11

My opinion above is logical given the wrench sizes used most often. Why they are done any other way is beyond me. Annoys me almost as much as bad socket detent location bothers Wamsutta.

I don't understand why a 12/14 would be an advantage over a 12/13 (just to continue my example. Same applies to any of the pairings). Unless there are situations where one would need the 12mm size on one side of a fastener while needing the 13mm size on the other. For a DIYer like me who may not be as adept at knowing the exact size of a metric fastener simply by sight, having consecutive sizes on one wrench can reduce how many pieces I have to carry to the work area. I'm better at recognizing SAE sizes but have been glad that a 9/16 was on the other end of the wrench when I misjudged a 1/2.

Thoughtfully designed sets bundle the sizes by commonly adjacent (application-wise) fastener sizes, which usually depend on the sizing specification standard (DIN, JIS, etc.) the manufacturer goes with.

Idea being that you likely won’t need two wrenches for a job. Examples, lots of 12mm/14mm stuff on Japanese equipment and 16mm/18mm stuff on German equipment.

Got ya.

So if your working on a Japanese car you're going to use 8/10, 12/14, 17/19. You don't need to worry about having the other sizes handy.

Same for a german car... 8/10, 13/15, 17/19, ect (see my chart above)

Working on a chrysler you'll probably need them all (+ SAE) :bounce:

As you gain experience working on different vehicles it will become apparent.

Yep. But it's not just the purchase, it's carrying them around with you. We have Japanese, German, and domestic vehicles. If I'm working on the BMW I have one 'sub-set' of wrenches, working on my Yamaha I have a different 'sub-set' of wrenches. Working on my Jeep, I bring them all :)

And yeah, tractors and whatnot probably have there own fastener idiosyncrasies.

Yeah, retired from 32 years of firefighting. I'm not looking to gain any more experience beyond working on what's in my garage now. :bounce:

I always thought the size progression of metric DBE's sort of followed the older natural SAE progression: 3/8x7/16, 1/2x9/16, etc

3/8 = about 9, 7/16 = about 11, so 9x11 makes sense
1/2 = about 13, 9/16 = about 15, so 13x15
5/8 = about 16, 11/16 is split between 17 and 18, so make it 16x18

Then just fill in the rest making sizes 2mm off so one could more easily make it out with the naked eye (i.e. 8x10, 12x14, 17x19)

see, for decades SK has branded their chrome as SuperKrome. Now see, the great cleverness (sure, it's a word, probably) is that they spelled the "chrome" with a K and they're SK.... SuperKrome. Hah! Wow! Dem guys r jeanyus!
